Deadline is reporting that Amazon's upcoming spy drama Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, which has been ordered straight-to-series, has enlisted Academy Award-nominated director Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game; Passengers) to helm the series' pilot episode.

John Krasinski (The Hollars) will headline the series, which follows Clancy's beloved hero at an early stage in his career when he's an up-and-coming analyst at the CIA, who then finds himself thrust into a deadly field assignment for the very first time. We'll join Ryan as he begins to uncover a secret pattern in terrorist communication that puts him right smack dab in the center of a very real and very dangerous new global threat.

Krasinski will be joined by Abbie Cornish (Geostorm) as Ryan's future lady love Cathy Muller, Wendell Pierce (The Odd Couple) as James Greer, Dina Shihabi (Amira & Sam) as Hani, and Ali Suliman (Lone Survivor) as Suleiman.

In addition to Tyldum, series producer Dan Sackheim (The Americans) has also been tapped to direct a number of episodes during the show's freshman season.

Why in the world would you reference "The Hollars" for John Krasinski. The obvious references are "The Office" or "13 Hours".

I thought "Passengers" was pretty good...a cross between "Titanic" and "Cast Away" to me!

@incredibleTalk - I was totally loving it, until the end... The original ending is SO MUCH BETTER tho! Very dark, but hopeful.

While Passengers was underwhelming, I still loved The Imitation Game, so I might check this out.

Maybe it's cause I went in with low expectations after reviews, but I thought Passengers was really good. Interesting idea, Pratt was great like always, I really don't get why so many people hated it. Esp if you like Pratt, the first half of the movie is pretty much all him.

Deadly field assignment for the first time? Wasn't Hunt for Red October his first field assignment? Or was that not deadly enough?
