Deadline is reporting that Lionsgate has tapped Len Wiseman to direct the upcoming
John Wick-universe spinoff
Ballerina, which is being fast tracked with a script from Shay Hatten (
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum;
Army of the Dead).
The film will center around a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family, and will presumably expand on The Director's (Anjelica Huston) assassin training facility that was introduced in
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum.
Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will serve as producers, with Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski also onboard as executive producers. It's currently unclear whether Reeves will cameo in the film as John Wick, but considering the end of
Parabellum, it's probably a long shot at best - especially with
Chapter 4 also just around the corner.
While Wiseman is undoubtedly best known for helming the Kate Beckinsale-led
Underworld and
Underworld: Evolution, his directing credits also include
Live Free or Die Hard,
Total Recall and pilots for
Hawaii Five-0,
Sleepy Hollow,
Lucifer,
APB and
Swamp Thing as well as the second episode of FOX/Marvel's
The Gifted.
