Deadline is reporting that Lionsgate has tapped Len Wiseman to direct the upcoming John Wick-universe spinoff Ballerina, which is being fast tracked with a script from Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 - ParabellumArmy of the Dead).

The film will center around a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family, and will presumably expand on The Director's (Anjelica Huston) assassin training facility that was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum.

Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will serve as producers, with Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski also onboard as executive producers. It's currently unclear whether Reeves will cameo in the film as John Wick, but considering the end of Parabellum, it's probably a long shot at best - especially with Chapter 4 also just around the corner.

While Wiseman is undoubtedly best known for helming the Kate Beckinsale-led Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, his directing credits also include Live Free or Die HardTotal Recall and pilots for Hawaii Five-0Sleepy HollowLucifer, APB and Swamp Thing as well as the second episode of FOX/Marvel's The Gifted.

Who decided that the best way to train an assassin was the make them a ballerina first?

Cool concept, bad choice for director.

Even though I loved the first Underworld.

They waited to make a Black Widow movie until 'ballerina assassin' had almost become a genre of its own.

If you want to see the best Taken movie since the first Taken, watch Furie on Netlfix

@BlackBeltJones - Definitely liked Furie better than Maria.

@Kyos - Maria actually sucked. Acting was cringe and the action wasn't all that tight. KIND OF CHEAP.

Furie across the board is excellent and had some action sequences that were almost Raid-like. The lead was compelling and a great fighter. One of the better action films of this decade imo.

I really wish I was in the fan club with John wick. I see so many people get into it, and so many people enjoy it. But i've only seen the first one and I just don't get it.

I do hope for your guys sake this movie turns out good. I don't want you guys to experience what I did with the first one.
