SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS Tops Blu-Ray/DVD Sales; GHOST RIDER: SOV Lands At #3

Last week, both Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows and Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance were released on DVD/Blu-Ray. The former grossed $187.6 million domestically (just short of the original film's gross), while the latter grossed an unimpressive $51.8 million (less than half of what the first film made). Via The Hollywood Reporter, it's been confirmed that A Game Of Shadows has debuted to the top spot on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart. Spirit Of Vengeance, on the other hand, debuted at #3 on the chart (despite a #1 debut on Home Media Magazine’s weekly rental chart), with Shadows beating it to a 5-1 ratio. 20th Century Fox’s Act Of Valor held the #2 spot, while Safe House and John Carter (which was #1 last week) were down to #4 and #, respectively.

No precise numbers are currently available, but this should be good news to Warner Bros. (the studio has been interested in making a third film in the Sherlock Holmes franchise). Which movie(s) will you be picking up this week?

How is GR:SOV a box office bomb? According to Boxofficemojo the budget was 57 million and the movie made 132,5 million?

Ghost Rider: SOV was a good movie. People decided they wanted to hate it as soon as they caught wind of its production. Everything about the movie was a total upgrade from the first film and then some. I've stated all this before, just reiterating.

Watch Ghost Rider SOV on bluray the other day and I must say it is bad. VERY BAD. I think Elektra was better. Heck it is tied with the Lundgren Punisher movie. The CGI was great. Ghost Rider has never looked better, but the film as a whole was horrendous...

While it still sticks with the action route and Downey's eccentric Holmes (it's more Holmes-ish than the first, though), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows has a PERFECT climax/ending it does the character and the books justice. Brilliantly done.

And...Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. I came across a few DVD stores around the town displaying it upon its release, and I had to carefully avoid them. Alright, just kidding on the avoiding part. Still, it IS a bad movie. It's not about Nicholas Cage, or who, or whatever; it's simply a mistake. Well, at least it's better than Steel, or Batman & Robin.

I had faith on GR: SOV but now im glad i didnt see it in the theater.
This movie was so horrible. The only things i liked was the special effects which definitely were wasted in this abomination. Same with the talented cast.
Total waste. The script couldnt have been more bad.

That's because SOV suuuuuuuucked. The first Ghost Rider also sucked. Just once, I would like them to at least ATTEMPT to make a Ghost Rider movie that is NOT cheesy. Here's a few simple steps:

1. Have someone actually write a decent script.
2. Get a director that can actually DIRECT.
3. Get rid of Nic Cage and move on to the Danny Ketch Ghost Rider.
4. Actually give the movie some real fight and action scenes.
5. Make it a gritty, R rated, super violent, badass of a movie.

Five simple things that could have made this movie 100 times better.
