The Moving Picture Company (MPC) has recently worked on such films as X-Men: First Class, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. If you missed their VFX breakdown of X-Men: First Class don't sweat it, I included it below.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - MPC VFX Breakdown

MPC's VFX Supervisor Seth Maury and VFX Producer Doug Oddy worked closely with overall VFX Supervisor Chas Jarrett and led the team completing more than 400 shots across 10 scenes for the movie including recreating Baker Street, Parisian streets, square and Opera house and recreating Krups Factory where weapons were produced including the infamous Big Bertha.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows - Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) has always been the smartest man in the room...until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large-Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)-and not only is he Holmes' intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder-a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction-all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history

@Prot3ctor

I attended FMX 2012 in Germany (its like comic con for VFX people), but there was a panel from MPC there and one of the indepth breakdown/discussions they did was X-men First Class, and they revealed a rather funny story of how they got reference to turn Beast's skin blue in that transformation scene.

Luckily around the time they were figuring it out, one of the employees came in with a bruise and it was starting to turn the skin blue, so they photographed it during its various stages, even exacerbating it to get more detail. And then they used the image data they collected as reference for the animation and transformation.

Thats dedication and i feel the results speak for themselves

Awesome stuffs. I always love VFX breakdown videos like these...especially, when it's from two of my favorite movies from last year. Those are amazing.

I wish the X-Men: First Class one featured the "submarine lift" sequence, though. But, the Beast transformation, and Magneto's underwater attack are enough already to amuse me.

Boring film. They [frick]ed up Moriarty, and I couldn't care less about the lame ending. Of course, the investigation part of it was as lackluster as the first.

First film was way superior.
