The First Episode will air en New Year's Eve and the Episode Two will debut on Sunday, January 5 and with the third episode on January 12.
As part of a publicity stunt for the series, a black hearse appeared containing the phrase 'Sherlock - 01 01 14' a visited a number of the show's shooting locations, including Baker Street, North Gower Street and St Bart's Hospital.
St Bart's is where Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) appeared to plummet to his death in the show's much-discussed series two finale, 'The Reichenbach Fall'.
The Brother of Hannibal, Lars Mikkelsen will make his debut in the new episodes as Sherlock's latest nemesis Charles Augustus Magnussen after Moriarty mysteriously die.
PBS has also confirmed that it will air the new Sherlock from January 19 in America and the rest of the world.
