Set in 1891 — a year after the last film’s events — the sequel shows Holmes (Robert Downey Jr) continuing his pursuit of Professor Moriarty (played by Jared Harris), who, if the investigator’s instincts are correct, might be the world’s first supervillain. Watson (Jude Law), meanwhile, is still trying to be a good partner to his love, Mary Morstan (Kelly Reilly), while keeping Sherlock alive.

Here is an small excerpt from E! Online who broke the news just a few minutes ago!

Very nice, I am so psyched for this film. The first one was the third greatest Sherlock Holmes film behind The private life Of Sherlock Holmes and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

Agreed to not having a 2 in the title. Those kind of seem like they are dumbing it down. Yes we know its a sequel.

Cool title. Wonder if its going to be all shadowy and stuff. Lol

not bad!:)

This movie is going to be great!:) HIGH HOPES! Thou i still dream Moriarty would be played by Gary Oldman and Jared Harris would be just some decoy in the movie who Sherlock first think its Moriarty but then realise that he isnt! That would be cool!
Seriously Oldman vs Downey Jr. and Law = EPIC WIN!:)

@danielthomasrandkai, im with you on this one. the first one was boring and not memorable and not sherlock. that said, i am a downey/law fan, a sherlock fan, and will still most likely see this. i just wont have the expectations i had on the first one

Meh. The first one was a huge bore. I'll wait to netflix this one. At least then when I fall asleep, it'll be in my bed and I won't be woken up by an usher in an emptied brightly lit theater.

You have to NOT like Sherlock Holmes to like that first film. It was just another stupid action comedy which is everything Sherlock Holmes ISN'T supposed to be!

Basically these new Hollywood versions are Sherlock for the clueless!

I always get a kick out of the people who complain that it wasn't how SH is supposed to be when in many ways, the portrayal of Holmes was much closer to the original stories than any other screen version. They're just taking their cues from those other screen versions instead of the original written stories. In the introductory story it talks about how his dress is very "bohemian" in style. It also lists his areas of expertise which include him being an "expert boxer, single-stick player and swordsman". Several times in the books it alludes to his attending and participating in, often winning, underground fighting competitions. The books clearly show his tendency to switch back and forth from bored to manic quite frequently and his disregard for manners and others sensibilities, instead of the monolithic calm exhibited in previous screen roles. Not that those weren't good, but to accuse the latest of being innaccurate in the portrayal demonstrates a clear lack of knowledge in the source material.

Great title...perfect for a sequel, (not to mention it plays up the whole mysterious thing that is such a part of Moriarty's character) with none of that lame inclusion of "2" stuff in it. With other movies it might work, but seriously, "Sherlock Holmes 2"? Don't even mention that kind of slander in my house, people! Oh, and 'AlexDeLarge87', I love your choice for Moriarty! He would be awesome! But I hope Harris will be good too...we're just going to have to wait and see.

I had heard Daniel Day Lewis was going to play Moriarty and was blown away. yes it was too good to be true.

blue18@ true

mwmcintyre@ Agree. To me Jeremy Brett is still and will always be the best actor who has played Holmes, but Downey Jr. wasnt that bad either
Richie just took the idea of Holmes and made it fresh and good action/mystery movie.
Those who dont like it has their right to opinion i give them that and respect it, but come on saying that the characters isnt even close to Holmes and Watson is little bit narrow minded? Isnt it?:)

@mwmcintyre thank you for sharing knowledge to those blabing knuckle heads who obviously claim to have "read" SH and "know" thats not how he is suppose to be portrayed. The first film was epic and a very close adaption mind the action which is lacking in the books ... SO WHAT.. to appeal to ALL auidences slight variations will be implemented. This second film will be awesome. If you didnt like the first movie thats totally fine just quit using excuses with knowledge you people obviously dont have. Hell I can respect Santanors opinon a lot more because he doesnt like RDJs portrayl of SH and thats great thats his opinon.
