InstigatorGIRL's Rant & Review of the Jonah Hex Animated Short

How did the latest animated short fair against it's live action counterpart, which was a failure? Minor Spoilers.

In this new animated short by DC, Jonah Hex is on the hunt for an outlaw named Red. Only to find out that the guy has been offed by a bar wench and her goons. Now in order to collect the bounty he must collect the dead body of the man and avoid becoming a dead body himself.

-Okay, let me start off by saying that Thomas Jane did a fantastic job voicing Jonah Hex. If they ever do anymore Jonah Hex animations I hope they bring him back.

-The action in this was pretty decent and definitely had the feel of a good western flick.

-My big complaint is I wish this damn short was a damn movie. Was not nearly long enough for me. It was over way too soon.

-Had some great lines/scenes in it. For example, when Linda Hamilton's character (sorry I don't remember her character's name) says to Jonah Hex,
"You wouldn't hit a lady, would you?" Jonah Hex replies, "You ain't no lady." Then BAM! Punch to the face! Awesome! There were other scenes like that.

-Another complaint was that the ending was predictable. I won't say it on here for those who haven't seen it, but I hate watching a flick and I can figure out how it's gonna end after a certain point. Sadly though, that's how most movies are anymore. So it wasn't enough to take away from the enjoyment of it.

-The animation was pretty good. Although, Jonah Hex didn't really have the trademark "eye" I have seen from the comics, but I'm not a big follower of the comic series so I dunno how he looks now a days.

Overall, fantastic short. If you haven't checked it out yet then you need to. With two successful shorts now (the Spectre being the other one) I fully look forward to more of these shorts and hope that they will eventually start producing longer storylines with the same quality. Basically, apply it to all of their animated movies, because some of their movies have come off as half-assed.

"You wouldn't hit a lady, would you?" Jonah Hex replies, "You ain't no lady." Then BAM! Punch to the face!

--- methinks Jonah Hex took lessons from Ash on quippage on that one as it reminds me of two lines in Army of Darkness:

"You found me beautiful once..." Zombie girl said to which Ash replied: "Lady, you got real ugly."

@Hawksblueyes: IG's ".....Was not nearly long enough for me. It was over way too soon....." - OMG, there's too many ways that can be sooo misconstrued indeed.

Bar Wench - "You hit me." Jonah - "Hard as i could.." Classic!

@IG Great review.

@NiteSoul the jonah Hex short is on the new Batman: Under the Red Hood DVD. And the Spectre is on the Justice League: Crisis on two earths DVD. On the Menue screen it would say "DC Showcase - Jonah Hex (or The Spectre)

I too wish the animated short was feature length. Thanks to the live action Hex movie this will probably be all we ever see.

What i'd pay full price for is a 90 minute DVD of ALL the shorts DC's planning on doing! Now THAT would be EPIC!!! :))

Nice & concise review.
If he's that good, maybe Thomas Jane will star in a western TV series called 'Hanged'. Or it could be a full-length feature. (bada-boom!)

@JoshCharmley thanks bud:)
i have only rented both those online without the extras, guess i need to add to my collection so i can view all the extras. Btw, for anyone who hasnt seen Under the Red Hood, it is one of the best if not best animated DC movies, it might be a little much for some of the younger audiences so parents might wanna check them out first and decide for themselves whether or not their children should view it.

The short was awsome , a good interpatation of issue #19.,
AS for an animated feature length of Jonah Hex the story they should use is No Way Back.
David Goyer writes the new Jonah Hex film with Nolan as director......
