Jeph Loeb Offers A Brief Update On Marvel's Live Action And Animated TV Series

Marvel's Head of Television assures fans at WonderCon that work is still moving ahead on small screen adaptations of AKA Jessica Jones, The Hulk and The Punisher and teases a new animated series featuring everyone's favourite Merc With A Mouth.

Comic Book Resources were at WonderCon to cover Marvel's "Talk to the Hat" panel with Tom Brevoort, Mark Waid, Arune Singh and Jeph Loeb. You can find the highlights in full by clicking on the link below. However, here is what Loeb had to say about their upcoming live action and animated television plans.

One of the first questions asked was in regards to what is happening with the previously announced live action TV series. "All I can tell you is that we're in development," said Loeb in a somewhat disappointing update. "We're working very toward bringing the Hulk back to television. We have in development another show which is 'The Punisher' and the first show we put into development, 'AKA Jessica Jones' which you guys know as 'Alias.'" While it's good to hear that Marvel are still working on bringing these characters to the small screen, it sounds as if they're still a couple of years away.

As for their animated ventures, Loeb was quizzed about the chances of an animated Deadpool series: "I can't tell you but there are certainly plans out there to see what that would look like." There wasn't a lot else said about the rest of their future plans, but did tease the appearance of Stan Lee in the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man Disney XD series. "I can tell you that when you catch 'Ultimate Spider-Man' on DXD, you can catch Stan Lee as Stan the Janitor. It's a delight [to work with him]. Stan Lee still has stories to tell and the energy of a 14 year old boy."

An animated Deadpool series would be awesome. Can't wait for the Hulk and Punisher shows.

Punisher should be on a channel like HBO/Starz. The level of violence in a Punisher TV series doesn't belong on any other channels. After seeing Punisher: War Zone and the level of brutality to Castle's "victims" in that movie is what I want to see from Punisher shows/movies from now on.

If I see Punisher on any other channel than what I said above, I'm gonna pass on it.

I remember seeing Legend of the Seeker, and that piece of shit show was aired on ABC. If anyone's read the novels (Sword of Truth) that the show is based on, they'd know of what level of brutality/violence to expect from a live-action show. But sadly, nope! Not allowed to happen, Sam Raimi went all Xena/Hercules on the show and deviated too much from the source material.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Hollywood sucks.

i know as a fanboy i love knowing about projects years b4 they come out but whats the point if they get us excited about something 3-5 years if they dont give us any info. take the green arrow series. as soon as they told us about it a couple of months latter we got script writter, catst, set info, ect. if they dont plan on telling us shit dont tell us untill they do that way it a bigger shock when we find out.
dosen't "this is the show were working on, this is the producers, this is the synops, it will be on this channel, here are some cast members." get you more excited than" were working on this show, this is the producer." than nothing for 1-3 years?

@lancerEvo-Hey, totally agree with ya man! Punisher's level of violence should be right up there with the Spartacus series. S'only way I'd want to see it. War Zone had it's issues, but I really felt like I was watching a Punisher movie.

Anyways, get this: I read this posted by MarvelFreshman back in October in regards to the Punisher TV series;

The Punisher is described as an hour-long procedural with a Marvel signature and a new take on one of comic book giant’s iconic characters, Frank Castle, a rising star detective with the NYC Police Department who moonlights as the vigilante Punisher seeking justice for those the system has failed. Bernero will executive produce along with Marvel. This marks the first sale this season and the first one ever outside of ABC for Disney-owned Marvel, which is developing TV series based on its properties through ABC Studios.

Made ME want to vomit. So damn sick of Hollywood thinking they know what's best by totally screwing with the origin and even the whole point of the Punisher.

DeadPool animated? I, like others, agree that as long as it's NOT kid friendly, I'm there. Otherwise, why bother? Not EVERY super-hero story HAS to be kid-friendly.

I can't wait for...all of these. I think Marvel will definitely not deliver us a Smallsville.

Although I think both AKA Jessica Jones & Punisher should be on HBO or Showtime, but I thought I remembered reading that Punisher was going to be on Fox (lol bad news is if it's good Fox'll find a way to [frick] it up and cancel it).

Punished will bomb, because it'll be on cable tv and they aren't going to show the Frank Castle we all know. Even in the cop dramas (Law and Order, CSI, NCIS, NYPD:blue, the Shield) they don't show the level that we'd need in a Punisher show.

If they CGI Hulk in that series I think it'll draw down the rest of the production value. Meaning cheap sets used over and over. I think of how they tried to bring back Knight Rider and they made him based out of a mountain facility, whereas in the original he drove the whole time and only parked KIT in the truck. In the original Hulk series he walked everywhere (or hitch hiked). I can't wait either way.

Deadpool cartoon = bad idea. It'll be on Disney? A PG Deadpool will basically be spiderman with a different costume and powers.

AKA Jessica Jones? Seen it. So has everyone else.

I can't wait for AKA Jessica Jones!
Great character, with a wonderful story!

Ali Larter MUST play Jessica!
She was the best thing about Heroes....And is sexy!

Where is the news on Cloak and Dagger?
That is the one I am most excited about! They can go dark with it, and keep it relatable to teenagers these days!

I want Amanda Michalka as Dagger..She is sexy, young, tall, and is a dancer!

I also like @CherryBomb's choice, Aly Michalka, Amanda's older sister!

Deadpool Animated would be really cool. And one of the former posters said that they want Deadpool to be adult oriented because not all super-hero stories ARE kid-friendly? Well, yeah, especially considering that Deadpool ISN'T a superhero.

I don't really care for the Jessica Jones series, but only because I don't know the character well. The Hulk has potential, especially if they're going to use Red Hulk.

The Punisher? They better not [frick] it up.

I've not been happy with Leob, not getting a good vibe from him about the TV stuff. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm probably not. What I'd like to see, is a quality Marvel Knights TV show, that rotates 4 or 5 characters. Street characters like DD, Iron Fist, ets.

You guys do realize there are mature animated series'?

Not all animation is on Nick or Disney or Cartoon Network. Adult Swim or Fox Nite thing is the way to go

While Deadpool was hilarious in Hulk vs wolverine he did absolutely NOTHING and was made to look like a weakling (just like daniel ways terrible comic does) with wolverine slicing his arm off

I prefer 90's deadpool who kicked wolverines ass in wolverine 88 or the deadpool who knocked around bucky all issue in nomad 4 Old deadpool like the circle chase or the xmen mini series or even joe kelly issues ruled because they were funny and violent and had deadpool killing everyone
