Why Ultimate Spider-Man Is A Great Show

Ultimate Spider-Man may have it's flaws, but the show is still what we've been asking for all along, read along.

The newly aired Ultimate Spider-Man series is off too a great start......well not to many others who criticize of including too much humor and other things.

Well here are some reasons why you should like and appreciate this new series:

1.The Humor

Many fans have asked and have criticized the Raimi films for not having the good old Spidey-Jokes. Well now you have it, the show delivers comedy that is actually pretty funny and not annoying. Just look at it, instead of Spectacular Spider-Man, which was also a good show, what other Spider-Man series had humor in it? Uh....yeah...didn't think so, when someone gives you something that you want, appreciate and be thankful for it.

2.Characters

"Why must they include so much characters in it?", "God, they shouldn't have made Spider-Man apart of a team!", "This is barely even based off of Ultimate Spiderman". Before I get onto this subject fully, I'd like to say one thing, if you don't like the show, then don't watch it. How hard is that? It's like eating something you don't want to eat. Now, back onto characters. The characters, I think, add a nice touch to the show. For those of you who hate the characters in the show, think about it..... Marvel wants people to know about their lesser known characters (something that DC fails to accomplish). Someday people will get bored of seeing the same spider-man movies and sequels every two years or so. People want to see something different. They want to introduce these characters, to get them known, so people can know who they are before a movie could possibly come out about them. For example, The Avengers. They introduced a tv series for youth to know who they are and for them to go to see the movie. About two years from now, these characters can probably helm their own movies or might even have a spin-off series (Heroes for Hire). Then appreciate this show with their characters, what other time have you seen spider-man with hulk on tv show? You people always want Marvel to expand it's universe more and more, about how do you expect them to do that when you can't even deal with four heroes in the series other than Spider-Man?

3. New Tech

Many of you have complained about the web-slinger equiping new gear from S.H.I.E.L.D., this was obviously dropped in the show for a reason....ENTERTAINMENT! Now let's be honest, I'm pretty sure that throughout the series, you guys would probably get annoyed of all the web slinging sound and probably bored of the same moves. People mostly want to see something different that attracts you to watch what happens next. Sometimes the tech interacts with plot of the episodes. For Example, when Spidey had the new Iron Spider suit, it gave him a problem on how to control it and how to fight it when the Living Laser took over it. It gives the character risks and advantages that will make you want to keep watching. The Spidey Motorcycle was cool.....

4.Drama

Alright now what the hell do you expect this show to be? Desperate Housewives? No. It was aimed at a younger audience to give them a hero to grow up with, not to 18 year olds or adults, even though there is nothing wrong with liking the show if you're that age, just saying at this moment, you're opinon doesn't matter to Marvel. They want kids to watch the show. What parent would want their 8 year old child to be growing up with deression or dramas?

5.It stands out

The show is not your ordinary show, it stands out from the rest which is what makes it successful to young children and to also to people who like the show.

Anyways that's all I need to say on why this show is a good show, hope you people start to appreciate it more.

I almost laughed out loud when I read this title. You're entitle to your opinion and I respect it, but strongly disagree.

1. I don't find it very funny. Young Justice isn't focused on being funny, but I find it to be funnier than USM. That show is actually witty. USM for the most part is just silly. This is coming from someone who enjoyed Teen Titans, so it's not like I can't take a lighter cartoon.

2. I don't mind that they decided to include more characters, but I think the execution is poor. It seems like they couldn't really decide what they wanted to do. Is it a Spider-man show? Is it a superhero team show? I don't know. It's more of an awkward middle ground which means that the team isn't done as well as Young Justice or Avengers EMH while Spider-man isn't done as well as Green Lantern.

From what I have seen they're really not doing a good job of developing the characters. We met Peter in a two part opener. Then, before we've gotten a chance to get to know him, these others are thrown in. If it's supposed to be Spider-man centric, we should have had more time with Peter on his own so when the other came in it would have felt like more of a major change in the status quo. Peter reacted that way, but for us as an audience, it wasn't very jarring since we hadn't settled into any sense of how things are.

3. This seems like a silly toy-selling gimmick to me. It's not making the story interesting. It's just something designed to get the attention of little kids who are easily attracted to flashy new things.

4. So your number 4 reason for why the show is great is "Hey! Don't fault it for not being dramatic! It's for kids!" That's not a reason for why it's good. That's a defense for why it's not better. People tend to underestimate children. When I was little, Batman The Animated Series was on. That show was mature enough to do some dramatic stories that adults could watch. However, that didn't mean kids couldn't watch it. Much of what it did was lost on very young children, but it was still entertaining because it was Batman fighting bad guys. You don't have to sacrifice quality to make your show watchable for children. Just keep it from getting too intense, violent, or scary.

5. It stand out, but not in a good way. It's easily the worst when compared to Young Justice, Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Green Lantern. Different doesn't mean it's bad but it also doesn't mean it's great. As you said before, it's made for kids. By your logic, they're not that picky anyway so they don't need a different Spider-man show. It's not like they were around to watch the 90s Spider-man or the MTV Spider-man. Most of them probably didn't even see Spectacular.

I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy the show, but your reasons are pretty weak. What I get from your article is that you believe the show should be held to a lower standard since it is intended for children. Like I stated above, providing a defense for why it is not better is not the same as proving it is great.

I don't find it funny at all. Yeah some people want Spidey to crack jokes but not the kiddie humor the show has. That being said it is for kids. They don't really make cartoons that appeal to both kids and adults anymore.

BIGBMH Agreed. It seems that Marvel wanted to focus on a team instead of just Spider-man, but wanted to make Spider-man apart of that team. Which is actually great idea but instead of making it where you're not sure if it's a team up show or a solo show is confusing. They should have just done a New Avengers show with Spider-man on the team. This would be perfect and they would be able to team up with EMH better. The title says "Ultimate Spider-man" So you would think that it would be based on a solo character Spider-man. But it's not. Green Lantern is different because the show is focused on Hal and it makes more since because Green Lantern is just one of the Lanterns so it makes sense a bit more. If they called the show New Avengers, cut some of the stupid humor (kids don't need stupid humor they can get witty humor just along with the rest of us). Then they would have an excellent show. I'll probably continue to watch it but it just isn't the high caliber show it should be.

@BooYah agreed with the point about viewers, if Disney didn't own Marvelbefore the show was being created, I don't think it would've been directly aimed for little kids.

BIBMH sums up my thoughts about this show. It's just really sad that after years of forward thinking we get a show so backwards it really insults the intelligence of any viewers. To make it worse, Rumors are spreading concerning the future of Avengers EMH being not so bright to make way for another show modelled on this show. And who do we have to thank for this sub-par series and possible cancellation of EMH, That Hack LOEB. You know the guy responsible for the shitty Ultimatum storyline which can probably be summed up to being Marvels version of Countdown.

In all honesty, I was kind of expecting this show to be like Generator Rex where it manage to balance humor with serious story telling; it isn't, unfortunately.

Its fun to watch for the action and humor, but as far as it goes it isn't really as good as all the other shows.

Wow, this pretty much makes me the only person criticizing the show who actually enjoys it.

@penguinlover
Dude, that ain't gonna happen. There is no way Avengers will be cancel after two seasons (containing a total of 52 episodes, which is pretty impressive). At least at season 3 or 4 it would make sense for possible cancellation.

@BooYah

Agree to a certain degree on your statement.
I agree that the humor in the show shouldn't be kiddy at all.
Disagree, completely, with you on the notion of cartoons that appeal to both kids and adults; especially using Ultimate Spider-Man as an example for the entire cartoon generation.
marvelguy
marvelguy - 5/1/2012, 4:26 PM
I wholeheartedly disagree. There are plenty of cartoons out there for kids which are better and smarter. This cartoon is weaker and less interesting than "Super Friends" and "Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends." It is so full of distractions, you hardly remember who the villain was and how they defeated him.

"Spectacular Spider-Man" is/was leagues ahead of this movie.

Also, brush up on your editing.

@BigK1337. Theres reason to be worried. Especially with the popularity of this show among kids. And remember spectacular spiderman, wolverine and the x men, and the numerous other shows cut off before they could bloom. Great shows are cancelled when they either lose popularity and money or when there's new management and he dont like what he sees from the old management. That [frick]er Loeb has gone on record that he plans on expanding the ultimate spiderman universe, and he has different plans for the avengers. There are too many variables that put the avengers in peril especially with this new show. Like the lowered ratings of the avengers, And do you really think kids would want to watch a show with a very wide amount of continuity they might need. I am seriously worried that the avengers ends up like spectacular spiderman.

I like the show, even though I feel that it could be a whole lot better. My biggest thing that I don't like is that Pete is a dumby almost. I do feel however that the characterzation is pretty decent. Nova doesn't have full control, Iron fist is a pacifist, Taskmaster was once a SHIELD agent. I think the show is still trying to find its ground. I do believ however we should just let dini write most episodes

@penguinlover

. . . Okay that is a pretty huge stretch to suspect plans of cancellation of the show, but if it were true then Avengers would of been cancelled after the first season (the connection between all those mention shows that were cancelled end after episode 26).

So in short, just chill out on these speculations; there is no announcements that Avengers is going to be cancelled and no clear clue that nobody isn't watching. I mean, really, a team of super heroes in full blown action sequences is enough to get kids to watch the show, which is why I don't think it will be cancelled straight away (especially with the film coming out).

Confirmation that there is another series in development.

The Original post that brought up my worries. There is evidence pointing toward the cancellation. There is proof that Disney is planning a lot for marvel.

Mark My words If this come true, I will put JEPH LOEB responsible.

Read the article, and it just confirmed my skepticism on this rumor; it didn't say there were any upcoming plans yet, nor outright state that it is going to be cancelled.

Sorry but I feel there is nothing to worry about. And besides, even if it somehow gets cancelled, we got a great Marvel tv series that have enough episodes to go by than just 26.

The show is the farthest thing from what I want in a Spiderman cartoon. Its the worst version of a Spiderman cartoon to date
BooYah
BooYah - 5/2/2012, 4:40 PM
@BigK- Alright, I respect your opinion but how about giving an example of a modern day cartoon that appeals to both kids and adults. I honestly can't think of any. Simpsons, Family Guy, etc are aimed at adults and Spongebob, Phineas and Pherb, etc are for kids. Of course there is anime but that's usually teen oriented. Back in the 90's there was that X-Men show that wasnt inappropiate for kids yet an adult didn't find it too kiddish either. Back then it felt like they made cartoons as if it was a comic in motion so all the dark elements from the comics are in the show.
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 5/2/2012, 8:31 PM
@BooYah, wouldn't you say shows like Young Justice, Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Green Lantern fit the "for kids but watchable by adults" description? I wouldn't say that they're all written very maturely or that the stories are super-sophisticated. However, they're interesting and not too childish or stupid.

This show sucks, surely Marvel can put out a show to compete with the likes of Young Justice, Green Lantern and Korra. They should have dropped the team dynamic and had a team up thing instead like Avenging Spider-man

I think the show is pretty good. I wish they didn't have all the other superhero characters like Nova and Luke Cage on every episode I just like Spider-Man. I think the show is pretty funny and it kind of reminds me of Teen Titans.
