Lately on CBM.com Ive been seeing all these articles about new live action anime movies and some people saying that animes wouldnt be good live action. Ive been thinking up a list of animes that if adapted right, could make great movies. the list is in no particular order, and these are animes that ive enjoyed in the past fews years, im not ranking them. o, and im not including any myazaki films because i dont think they should be made live action. it would tarnish them.

One more note, i did not include naruto or bleach becuz i believe they could never be adapted into a live action movie without looking completely stupid.

first up:

NINJA SCROLL

i don't really know alot about ninja scroll because i havent seen it before but im putting it on the list because mostly everybody on this site has given it rave reviews! its been reported that Leonardo dicaprio has bought the rights to the franchise and is going to make a movie. i havent heard anything lately about it though.

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION

This is one of my all time favorite animes. its also one of the most confusing i must say also lol. its the story of Shinji Ikari. its way to confusing to write about cuz it would take forever to. it has alot of biblical and apocryphal inspirations in it.

o and this picture is badass

GHOST IN THE SHELL

i don't really need to talk about this one because theres been tons of news coming out about the live action adaptation lately.

COWBOY BEBOP

This is a great anime and would make a great live action movie. it's based around Spike Seigel, a bounty hunter and about his past that is slowly catching up to him and his crew of bounty hunters. It's been picked up by Keannu Reeves (ughhhhh) who'll play Spike

AKIRA

What can i say about this............. i don't know. its great! this wqas also picked up by Leonardo dicaprio , but im not sure whats happening about it right now. i know it was scrapped for a while but then it was picked back up.

BATTLE ANGEL ALITA

the story of a cyborg girl who was found in a scrap heap in a dystopian future. it was mostly a manga but it was turned into two ovas that were very good. It been picked up by james cameron and has been rumored as one of his next films.

SAMURAI X (aka RUROUNI KENSHIN)

Samurai x is one of my alltime favorite shows. Its the story of Himura Kenshin, formerly known as the Hitokiri Battosai, a deadly assassin. Its set during the Meji period of Japan, where Kenshin protects the people of his country. If i were to make a samurai x movie, I'd base it on the "Trust and Betrayal" ovas that are acclaimed as one of the best animes of all time. they are prequels to Rurouni kenshin.

Here is a OAV i found on Youtube of Trust and Betrayal. the ovas are alot more violent then the show, as youll see if you watch this video, but be warned, theres lots of spoilers in the video.

GUNDAM FRANCHISE

If i were to pick a gundam series to make a movie out of, I'd have a very hard time. here are 3 series that would make great live action Gundam movies. o and lets just forget about G-Saviour (the crappy canadian straight to dvd live action gundam movie)

GUNDAM WING

GUNDAM SEED

Gundam seed was a good series, though the story wasnt the best and they focused way to much on the human element throughout the series. but if done right it would make a stellar movie.

GUNDAM 00

Gundam 00 is the latest installment in the gundam franchise, and is also my favorite gundam series (sry if some of you get upset about that)

VAMPIRE HUNTER D

great anime, would make an even greater film if done right

CODE GEASSS

Code geass is my newest favorite anime. The story of Lelouch Lamperouge, a prince of the holy empire of Brittannia who with his sister who were outcasted and made to live in hiding in Japan, gains a newfound power called geass and starts to exact revenge on his country. This anime by far had the best ending of any anime ive ever seen, there were so many twists. i know if to be made into a live action movie, Hollywood would have to americanize it and instead of japan, make it america and change the names and some of the characters looks, but im fine with that if they do it right.

Now a 50/50 toss-up and by that i mean it has a 50% chance of sucking and a 50% chance of being great:

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

remember this is only part 1!!!
please post your thoughts on these and your own picks!

Don't forget Robothech was picked up by Tobey MsGuiere's Production company. Not sure how far they have advanced with it but The Macross chapter would be awesome!

Dont Forget about Zoids. Now that would make an awesome live action movie if done the right way.

I'd love to see Death Note done right one of these days, as well as Ninja Scroll and Ruroni Kenshin. Code Geass and Gundam may be too much to faithfully pull off(Transformers) but Ghost in the Shell is a definite must see.

i'd love to see the following manga/anime made into films.
1.akira(all japanese cast & crew)
2.ghost in the shell
3.full metal alchemist
4.neon genesis evangelion
5.naruto(probably take about twenty films to get to the akatsuki storyline.)
but i think they would all probably turn out shit,if hollywood gets hold of them.(look at speed racer & dragonball.)

a live action poke'mon movie with CG poke'mon and a recreated story line would be very cool if it had a big budget and a good story just sayin.

I agree with deadpool72, hollywood would screw movies up bad.
Imagine NINJA SCROLL if they made the movie as a PG or PG13 movie. Couldn't be done because of the amount of violence and sex it has.
They might be able to get it right if someone like Quentin Tarantino made the movie.

Ninja Scroll??? Live Action??? what would be the point? There has to be a point in changing the format of these stories into film/Live Action version. Cowboy Bebop already had a movie and I am perfectly satisfied with that unless somehow they get the right people together and blow my mind away. I think Naruto could work, but they would have to again get the right people together who would want to make the right film. I think Speed Racer was done well... and that other Anime/Live Action movie that should have seen Goku as a young kid should not have been made, thanks Fox and Funimation!

It would be interesting to see these stories yes retold in a different format, but then it utimately comes down to the right people touching it. Otherwise there's no purpose in it at all, but all are great stories and I'm satisfied with the format that they are in now...Anime is to Japan, what Hollywood classics are to us...
