Last month, we learned that Primetime Emmy-nominee William Jackson Harper (The Good Place; Midsommar) had signed on for an undisclosed role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and it wasn't long before the speculation began.
Because he'd previously been fan-cast in the role, a theory that he might be playing Reed Richards soon gained some traction, but a new rumor now claims that Harper will actually make his MCU debut as a brand-new character who hasn't appeared in the comic books.
According to Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Harper is playing "Quaz," who is described as "a telepath who is a part of a rebel group against Kang."
Quaz... short for Quasar, aka Wendell Vaughn? Possibly, but Richtman seems fairly sure that this is a completely new character.
Just a rumor for the time being, but this would make a lot more sense than randomly introducing a new Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski played a Variant of the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) in the Ant-Man threequel, and we know Scott Lang and co. are going to interact with several different factions/civilizations when they find themselves trapped in the Quantum Realm.
In Quantumania, Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Jonathan Majors joins the adventure as Kang. Director Peyton Reed returns to direct the film; Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard produce.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
