ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA And CAPTAIN MARVEL Sequel THE MARVELS Swap Release Dates

Marvel Studios has unexpectedly made another round of changes to the Phase 4 slate, swapping around Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels. Find the full story on what's happening right here...

We became used to release date changes during the pandemic, but Marvel Studios has just confirmed another alteration to its Phase 4 slate. For reasons which haven't yet been made clear, the decision has been made for The Marvels and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania to swap release dates.

Now, the Ant-Man threequel moves from July 28, 2023 to February 17, 2023, while the Captain Marvel sequel shifts from February 17, 2023 to July 28, 2023. Simple enough to understand, right?

Deadline has shared some insights into the swap, explaining "Both films are moving along very nicely, we hear, but Ant-Man is further along in the production process and it was a simple decision by the studio to swap the release dates." While that's by no means an official reason, it's one that does make sense. However, we can't help but wonder if Kang the Conqueror might be to blame.

Tom Hiddleston recently revealed that Loki season 2 begins shooting in 6 weeks, putting it on track for a 2023 debut. By bringing Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania forward, we'll be able to spend some time with Kang there before visiting a timeline where one of the villain's Variants rules over the TVA.

With that in mind, don't be surprised if the plan is for Loki to return sometime before next July.

Both movies are incredibly exciting, though, and it is a shame we'll have to wait that little bit longer before seeing Captain Marvel, Spectrum, and Ms. Marvel team-up on screen for the first time. You have to believe there's a chance this release date change will impact when we see Secret Invasion as well, though it always seemed unlikely that it would premiere prior to The Marvel's original release.

Stay tuned for updates!

I do hope Ant-Man 3 is a huge film. Kang is an Avengers level villain and Jonathan Majors did a great job as He Who Remains. So there is some hype to this movie. Not as big yet I think but it needs to be.

@SonOfAGif - They really shouldn't waste one of the Avengers' archenemies on an Ant-Man film. I'm hoping he just has a small role like Thanos did in GotG.

@SonOfAGif - Ultron was an Avengers-level villain, but he still go short-shrifted (generally speaking).

@SonOfAGif - I’m guessing Loki season 2 and Antman 3 will set up the next Avengers film.

@soberchimera - They first showed Thanos and Loki in solo films, could be building him up as the next big bad

@abd00bie - I highly doubt Marvel Studios would have taken the time to establish variants and introduce one of Kang to have the next variant be killed off and never face The Avengers. Not to mention how even though Ultron died we saw a Variant of his in What If? And we are also getting variants of his sentry bots in Multiverse of Madness.

@SonOfAGif - I question kang as avenger villian long before Loki tv series was made who fought avengers more in comics ultron , thanos, hulk, kang has not appeared in comics until loki tv series

@dragon316 - Except Kang and the entire council of Kangs are all variants. We are just seeing different variants of his appear in different films.

I’m convinced now that Marvel has no plan
Vigor

@DoctorDerange - well they DO have plans. But things change. Best example is Dr. Strange 2 originally coming before spiderman 3, and it'd script reflecting that (including having America Chavez open the multiverse portal). But then Sony bumped spidey3 up so they changed minor things to still make it work

With no plan. I'm convinced that's how much will be made before the MCU train stops.

Don’t switch all of it, people have lives. At least keep Luis and Ms Marvel in their respective release dates

Hmm I get the reason, but the previous Ant-Man films were released in July, just feels more suitable to keep it's summer release.

@Jayman627 - Meh, yeah but they don't really perform like a Summer Tentpole. Marvels could be huge in July.

I know the Ant-man movies have for the most part been fun, summer adventures. But with Scott's emotional journey in endgame being a highlight of that movie, it's possible they go for something dark and twisted with this one esp with Kang being the main antagonist. Like maybe kill the daughter or Hank or something.

Peyton Reed did something nice with the last episode of Mandalorian S2, so whose to say he can't also get emotions running for Antman 3?

In that case then they better start promoting Quantumania since now in order to generate hype for the film. If not at least as Thor: Love and Thunder is released on theaters.

@NinnesMBC - Huh?? We just got a first trailer for Thor and it comes out in three months...We won't get an Ant-Man Trailer until like October
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 4/29/2022, 5:11 PM
@NinnesMBC - Why would they begin promoting Quantumania nearly a year out? Who do you think they are DC? 👀
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 4/29/2022, 6:34 PM
@ThorArms - IMO that would be waiting too much and time flies quickly.

Let's look at Black Panther, it came out in February 2018 however they began promoting it with a teaser trailer back in June 2017 IIRC and then in October of that same year the 2nd final trailer came out, then in the next following months they continued with the remianing promos and tours etc.

Better get started soon and starting a promotion of it once Love and Thunder is out would be for the best IMO.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 4/29/2022, 6:36 PM
@LongMayHeReign - The movie is coming out in 10 months now with this shift of dates and time goes flying, plus they are now in post-production so I really don't see a reason why they wouldn't slowly get started in at least showing a teaser around July just as Thor: Love and Thunder is about to come out by then.
