ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Star Jonathan Majors Addresses Negative Reviews: "What Does That 47% Mean?"

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania hasn't received the kindest of reviews, and after writer Jeff Loveness recently responded to those, Kang himself - Jonathan Majors - is the latest to weigh in...

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania had its fair share of issues, but Jonathan Majors wasn't among them. The actor delivered a stellar performance as Kang the Conqueror, but that wasn't enough to save Marvel Studios' latest movie from the wrath of many critics.

With a 48% Rotten Tomatoes score, it's no longer tied with Eternals (47%) as the worst-reviewed MCU movie. However, that's still not a good result and one that's been reflected in a steeper-than-expected drop at the box office from weekend to weekend.

During a recent interview with Screen Talk (via Variety), Majors chose to weigh in on the negative reviews.

"It doesn’t change how I see myself, period. It’s all data," the Creed III star says. "I’m a performance within a story. One thing I will say to my team as we’re leaving a premiere if they’re reading reviews, I’ll say, ‘How’s the movie doing?’ I try to clean my plate and take care of my part. The response is: ‘You’re straight. You’re good. They like you.’"

"And they tell me about the movie. Sometimes the movie is also on that level, and sometimes [it’s not]."

That may or may not be Majors acknowledging that the latest Ant-Man adventure was subpar, and while he didn't take aim at critics, the actor explained why their opinions are water off a duck's back.

"It’s just people. They have an opinion. You always have an opinion. I’m no fool...I look at the aggregate and, ok, 47. But what does that 47 mean when you also got this amount of box office? What do these things mean? It’s information. I am in the know. I won’t play myself. If you are a critic on a level, I probably know you and understand your politics."

Majors may not be sweating the reviews, but it's bound to be hard for him to shake them off, especially when Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania serves as his villain's true MCU introduction. Simply put, it let him down, but critics have had nothing but good things to say about the actor's work (including us).

Majors will return as more Kang Variants in Loki season 2 later this year.

Don’t fret, Jon. You were still easily the best part of the film if nothing else. Silver linings!

@litobirdy - the people hating on this movie seem to think that makers and stars of the movies will see their comments and care....so......

@DarkeyeZ - Should they never voice their complaints? Why shouldn't they say what they do and don't like?

@litobirdy - this is SO very on point. I absolutely love when the commentariat refer to actor’s by the bro slang contraction of their first names, as if they are old pals. Desperation poser ploy to appear to be connected with the IN crowd. We even got one poster (haven’t seen him in two weeks to be fair) who parses all his answers with verb tensing that attempts to convey that they have seen the entire Saga arc in advance. It’s as pathetic as it is funny when these people attempt to appear important to the conversation
