ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Star Jonathan Majors Teases His MCU Inspirations For Kang The Conqueror

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors opens up on turning to previous MCU villains for inspiration when it came to creating Kang the Conqueror, and his comments are downright fascinating.

Jonathan Majors is a seriously exciting addition to the MCU. While we've only seen a little of what he'll bring to the table as Kang the Conqueror after the actor played his He Who Remains Variant in Loki, the villain will fully step into the spotlight in next February's Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

That Kang is thought to be the one who will serve as the Multiverse Saga's big bad, though we anticipate Majors playing many more Variants between now and 2026.

During a recent interview with CinePop (via Screen Rant), the actor opened up on how he prepared to play Kang, naming a number of previous MCU villains as his main source of inspiration.

"It’s funny, because I did go through and I did look at Ultron, I looked at Loki, I looked at Thanos. And I had an idea of, just for me, what I wanted to bring to the MCU through Kang," he teases. "And there’s a certain requirement that has to happen."

"I think Ultron, Loki, and Thanos, I think those would be the quintessential baddies or anti-heroes. They all had very interesting qualities to them and some of them shared qualities, which is just a necessity for taking up the mantle," Majors adds. "And so once I took those out and put those in the Kang soup, I then looked at, ‘What is it we need for this time period?’"

The Kang actor would go on to reveal what sort of deep dive he's taken into more than just the MCU in order to figure out who the villain is, looking at what will resonate with people today.

"Our generation, what we represent, what is a big bad to us? What are our children going to see? What are our partners going to see? What are our leaders going to see? What is it that our zeitgeist, quote-unquote, needs? What are we conjuring up? What’s in the unconscious of our time now? And Marvel has the, in my opinion, the largest platform in entertainment."

"The big bad has to represent so many things and has to be connected to so many things. So I read the newspaper, I looked at history books, I talked to people, I look at my child, talk to my partner. What is it we’re afraid of in this time? What is it that’s scaring us? Because Kang has to be...any big bad is a manifestation of our deepest insecurities as a society."

Majors clearly has a fantastic grasp of what makes this character tick, and we can't wait to see what else he does with him over the next few years. We anticipate seeing most of his Variants in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but wouldn't be surprised if he pops up elsewhere before then (no Rama-Tut in Moon Knight remains a real wasted opportunity).

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on February 17, 2023.

I'm telling you all, Johnathan Majors's Kang is gonna go down as one of the best CMB performances ever!

@FilmGuy7878 - YEP! And I see people still not understand the responsibility of an actor. Some just think they "recite lines". What he's talking about in this article is the perfect example of what a good actor does to bring a character to life. This stuff isn't given to them; it isn't written in the scripts.

@Variant - IK, he's going to nail Kang! He has a great understanding of the character and what he stands for. Really hope he uses the EMH version of Kang as an inspiration.

This guy is so good it's scary. He seems to really understand not just acting, but the details of everything he takes on. He immerses himself and not in a douchey method sense. So much range and he made that last episode of Loki very compelling when that level of exposition dumping should not have worked for a TV series finale, much less an MCU show. And he's hot as hell. Absolutely can't wait to see what he has in store for this character.

For Kang the conqueror fr??😂😂😂all of that work so that in the end he gets his ass kicked by the good guys

@Saga - you don't think this actor should do his homework?
Especially seeing thar he will be in multiple productions as different versions of himself?

Loki 1, loki 2, antman, Kang, secret wars, and who knows where else he may cameo.
I respect that he's putting lots of thought into this

@Saga - This is a pretty silly take. So should actors not take their roles seriously if they are bad guys? Because they all get their asses kicked by the good guys?

@Saga - it'd be EPIC if Kang actually took out the Phase 4 second-string teams only to bring back recasted Avengers OGs!

That, I'd ❤ to see.

@tripttwe - my predictions for Dynasty and secret wars?

New avengers and f4 team up
Avengers vs. Foxmen
Spiderman with the symbiote suite
Strange, spiderman, f4, avengers (old and new), new guardians, eternals, foxmen, newly recasted mutants all team up to take down Kang and whomever is the second villain for secret wars
Matador
Matador - 12/9/2022, 3:10 PM
Maybe he can take some inspiration from Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon Kang's arc.

Vigor
Vigor - 12/9/2022, 3:16 PM
@Matador - that guy got his butt kicked a few times and kept coming back. He was powerful and had super advanced tech, but the avengers were able to best him. I wonder if this Kang will be like that, which I found amusing.

Like a constant threat that kept coming back with some scheme

These are my kind of articles. So excuse me if you see me commenting a lot here.
Reading deep into his words here, he keeps asking wher are people most afraid of TODAY.

And depending who you ask, people are afraid of different things:

Some people are afraid of change. Some people are afraid of the rich and powerful. Some people are afraid of not leaving a legacy and their lives having no worth or meaning

Kang Dynasty.
Kang DYNASTY.. that tells me he's going to be shown as having conquered a few worlds. I think we will see him manifest all these fears.

@CorndogBurglar - listen we had a movie called "Age of Ultron" that ended up being more like a weekend of Ultron.
So let's not be so hasty with assumptions lol
Vigor
Vigor - 12/9/2022, 3:34 PM
@Origame - what's your point?
Jonathan has the full script for antman3, and I'm sure he knows the just of what happens in Kang Dynasty. So it's not too early for him to get into the full breadth of the role and do his research
Origame
Origame - 12/9/2022, 4:13 PM
@Vigor - ...marvel is infamous for giving their actors basically nothing from their scripts ahead of time.

Besides, he didn't even say those are the fears of today. Just that he's researching the fears. Why would he need to figure out those fears if the script is going off of one of them for this interpretation?

I did like Age of Ultron though.
