ANT-MAN & THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Projected To Take In $120 Million Over Presidents' Day Weekend

Disney/Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrived on tracking today, and is expected to take in a very impressive $120 million over the course of its 4-day opening next month...

Early box office estimates pointed to Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania making a big impact when it hits theaters on February 17, and the official tracking (via Deadline) data lines up almost perfectly with those initial predictions.

The first Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 5 movie is expected to take in $120 million over the course of its 4-day opening weekend. If it achieves this result, the superhero adventure will land among the top three openings for the Presidents' Day weekend after Black Panther ($242.1M) and Deadpool ($152.1M).

Quantumania looks to be an altogether darker and more intense outing than its comedic predecessors, and the debut (unless you count his Loki's He Who Remains Variant) of Jonathan Majors' villainous Kang the Conqueror is believed to be a big selling point.

According to Deadline, Kang will have the ability "to replicate himself into different variants and wage wars across the multiverse" (is this new info)?

Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.

Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.

The sci-fi adventure opens in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.

Where do these websites get their “projections” from? Antman will probably do between 70-80 million(which is still fantastic) on its opening weekend but not 120, that seems a little ambitious for any Antman movie.

@WruceBayne - where do you get 70-80 million from? You sound ridiculous.

@WruceBayne - Well, ticket sales are really big and are indicating it's coming for way more than $120m, if anything this is a conservative estimate.

@Dotanuki - my projections came from the first two Antman movie weekends and neither one came close to 120 million dollars. 80 million is still pretty good though so relax.

@Comicmoviejunki - my numbers came from the previous two movies which neither came close to 120 million. But I guess we’ll see when it comes out if it’s closer to my 80 or your 120.

I often forget this is coming. I'll try to get tickets asap.

Just bought my family their tickets today!

One thing that I've noticed concerning this film is optimism from my friends that are casual fans of the MCU. Phase 4 was divisive, but usually at least one of my friends would be interested in what was coming out. Doctor Strange appealed to the supernatural/fantasy friends, Eternals was a hit with several grandparents at my church, Shang-Chi was exciting for my buddies that I've practiced martial arts with, etc. But overall, a sense of aimlessness and frustration had been building.

However, the threat of Kang has my casual friends of all demographics excited. They want to see what this "Master of the Time and Multiverse" is all about. I'm happy for them and glad to have a more interested fanbase going to the theater with me.

This is the first marvel movie that I’m looking forward to since Endgame. But I’ll probably watch it some time in March.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - I haven't been pumped up about anything post Endgame. I got a little hyped about Doctor Strange 2, but it was probably THE worst MCU movie I've seen.

I just can't get excited about these new projects. It all just feels like "content" rather than good storytelling now.
