Another Movie Joins The Already Crowded December Date, Is It Time For Aquaman To Move?

It looks like December will be the most crowded month for both block-busters and Oscar bait movies alike. The big question on everyone's mind especially DCEU fans, Will Aquaman move its release date?

Well, it seems Robert Zemeckis' Welcome to Marwen starring Steve Carell could be the wake up for Warner Bros to change Aquaman release date as it will be taking December 21st slot. For those not familar with that particular day, It is the release dates for movies like ALITA, Transformer's spinoff movie BUMBLEBEE, HOLMES & WATSON and James Wan's DCEU movie AQUAMAN.

Warner Bros should definitely be worried since an overcrowded release day could affect the box-office performance for their only DC related movie of the year.  Films like Bumblebee already have a large fanbase due to the Transformer's franchise, with the teaser getting a postive response from fans and everyone alike. Also, the likes of Alita has James Cameron backing since he his producing the movie.

They will also have to worry about Disney's Mary Poppins Returns which is expected to premiere December 25th. Although, Aquaman will premiere a week early in United Kingdom, it definitely has a very fierce competition when it releases in the US.

In my opinion, Warner Bros needs to take control and announce a new release date when they debut the first trailer at San Diego Comic-Con next month. Also, Solo: A Star Wars Story is a testament to this as it flopped in box-office due to having a close release date with other major blockbuster movies like Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War and more.

Do you also think they should move the release date? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Wow you're definitely right about the overcrowded release date.
I never really understood Aquaman's release date. As things are now overcrowded release dates might be a big problem for the movie companies hence why the book dates years in advance.
There's a big big blockbuster almost every other week.

I don't think moving Aquaman will help much. I mean when could they move it to? November has movies like Fantastic Beasts 2, Nutcracker and wreck it Ralph 2. And the beginning of 2019 isn't much better with Mary Poppins, Glass and Hellboy.
February was probably good but X-Men took that spot and March has Train your Dragon 3 and Captain Marvel.

It's almost impossible to move a film nowadays.

If Warner Brothers moves Aqua-man, that is a sign of weakness. If they are not the IP that every other studio should move away from then they have not and most likely will not meet their potential as a brand. There is no reason why DC should not be at the top of the CBM genre which is the most popular genre in movies today. The fact that a DC movie is being forced to move from its space is proof positive of how weak the brand is....something I don't think it will recover from as currently comprised.

Usually a film like Welcome to Marwen would have had its opening date announced a year or more in advance. Waiting this long is odd unless it was moved and if that was the case you would think it would have been mentioned. If I was WB I would looking for some payback because if this film flops the DCEU will be sinking for the second time.
