Dolph Lundgren made a relatively minor, but memorable appearance in Aquaman as Mera's father King Nereus, and the legendary '80s action star is set to reprise the role for the upcoming sequel.

Now, Lundgren is the latest cast member to tease his return for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with a behind-the-scenes photo. The Instagram snap shows the actor in his trailer, seemingly in the middle of getting fitted for his costume. "Hanging out in my trailer on Aquaman 2. Great script, great director, terrific cast and a fantastic crew. Really enjoying it!," he captioned the post.

We don't know what sort of part Nereus will play in the sequel, but the character has been both an ally and a fierce enemy of Aquaman in the comics, so there's a chance his daughter's allegiances could be tested.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but it's assumed that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's vengeful Black Manta will be the main villain this time. Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) will be back in action, too, but he might well be fighting alongside his half-brother. There's also a good chance that The Trench will feature more prominently, given Wan's fondness for the deep-sea terrors.

The director recently suggested that he'd be returning to his horror roots for Aquaman 2, drawing influence from, of all things, campy '60s Italian horror film Planet of the Vampires.

Jason Momoa and Amber Heard will reprise their respective roles as Arthur Curry and Mera, and we recently found out that Game of Thrones alum Pilou Asbaek was in final talks to join the cast, though no details on his role were provided.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to swim into theaters on December 16, 2022.

Remember when he played the punisher?

Yeah. He doesn't either.

@Origame - Kindergarten Cop 2 might be the worst movie ever made, and I say that as someone who actively seeks out and enjoys bad movies.

He should consider his Punisher a blessing.

Dude needs the beard to soften that hairstyle. Without it he looks like a deranged octogenerian Hanson fan.

Mmmbop, ba duba dop,
Ba du bop, ba duba dop,
I will break you,
Ba du, oh yeah!

Aquaman is currently my least favorite Dc movie, because it totally butchered Geoff Johns' Aquaman comic, which it supposedly took inspiration from.

Lundgren wasn't bad, but what did his character actually do? Just stand around, doing nothing and not fighting. In the comics he was more of an evil ex-boyfriend (of Mera) and he has also the same powers as Mera.

Hope he does more, because so far I'm only excited for Orm.
