AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors Reveal That Adam Warlock Was Never Set To Appear In The Movie

While Avengers: Infinity War's screenwriters claimed that Adam Warlock was once in an early draft of the Marvel movie, the Russo Brothers have now confirmed that it was never the plan for him to appear.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has frequently said that Adam Warlock is being saved for Vol. 3 (something which one of Vol. 2's after-credits scenes confirmed) and Joe and Anthony Russo have now confirmed that. While the movie's screenwriters revealed that the hero was included in an early draft, they've made it clear that they never had a plan in place for him to help out the team.

"That’s a James Gunn thing — we never intended to put Adam Warlock in Infinity War," Anthony says. "We have so many heroes we have to service that you guys love and give them screen-time." He went on to admit that the only way to include Adam would have been to essentially force him into the story, something which would have meant he had no real emotional connection to the Mad Titan.

"You want to see the hero and villain to have an emotional connection," he continued. "You wouldn’t have a connection to him [Warlock] as he doesn’t have a connection with Thanos and a built-up story." That makes perfect sense and as cool as it would have been to see the comic books recreated with Adam taking on the villain, his introduction is best saved for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Also this!

This last weekend, Blackpanther also overtook The Dark Knight when adjusted for inflation!! TDK is my top fav comicbook superhero movie but respect where it is due! Black Panther is truely a phenomenon when you think of a "solo" superhero movie. It is about 11 millions short to go over The Avengers as well.

Only other comic book movie so far to go over TDK when adjusted for inflatino is The Avengers, and it was the very first multiple superheroes assembled together. It is fair to assume that Infinity War will sure top TDK even when adjusted for inflation in record time!

@TheOtherOn - Inflation should not be included in these comparisons. If you adjust for inflation, then why not adjust for every other variable, like number of screens, length of time in theaters, success of movies that were released afterwards... hell I could probably list a bunch more.

My point is, if you adjuat for inflation, then Gone with the Wind would be, like, $18 billion dollars. But back then, there was no tv, video games, smart phones or anything like that. You either listened to the radio or went dancing and such. And there was usually only 1 screen per theater, and that movie, because it was popular, was on the only screen in some theaters for over a year. So if you wanted to see a movie in some towns, you had only 1 choice.

My point is, there are so many factors that id you are going to include 1 variable, then you could start including more and then it becomes impossible to compare two movies.

I'm not trying to devalue your comment either. Sorry if I came off that way.

Duh. This has been common knowledge for a while. My guess is that we will finally see Adam in Guardians 3.

@HeavyMetal4Life - why is that your guess. That's what Gunn said lol

@Vigor - haha kind of, but also, think about it- what movie would he appear in (and have it make sense in the context of the MCU) before Guardians 3? None, because I doubt he will be in Avengers 4.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I don't know how the Guardians will even combat Adam Warlock considering he is a cosmic heavy hitter. This is why I believe James Gunn and Kevin Feige need to introduce Lady Sif as the next guardian of the galaxy.

Drax is extremely underpowered and it seems like he is weaker compared to an Asgardian. Lady Sif is formidable and knows how to fight.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Absolutely. This isn't news! I don't think anyone with a brain cell thought we'd see Adam in infinity war..

@SonOfAGif - Drax is extremely underpowered. I don’t know why that bothers me so much. He took on Thanos by himself.

Disappointing, but understandable. Warlock is too unknown to casual moviegoers to earn any reaction like a Spider-Man or Thor would get.

@BootyPeep - Yep. And I would like to see the character build up with Phase 4 anyway, Nova, Captain Marvel, and then eventually Fantastic Four.

@GeneralZod - F4 would be a dream come true. Don't really care about Captain Marvel, liked her more as Ms Marvel or Warbird, but if they give us a Nova movie I really hope it's about Richard Rider (doubtful).

In the film context, this makes sense. There were already so many characters that adding in a whole new one with his own backstory would have been crazy.

I do hope that he and Thanos get some kind of interaction down the line, but I guess that all depends on if Thanos lives past Avengers 4...

@GoldGuy - if he dies he can return just like the comics

@OmegaEffect - That's true....heck, since he's CGI/motion capture, if worst came to worst, they could recast (but I hope not, Brolin is too good).

@GoldGuy - I agree Brolin was good
