AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors Weigh In On Those Recent Silver Surfer Rumors

Rumor has it that the Silver Surfer could make an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War and Joe and Anthony Russo have now responded to those claims as well as explaining the impact of the Fox/Disney deal.

While it was always a hard to believe rumour, the possibility of the Silver Surfer gliding into Avengers: Infinity War got fans very excited earlier last month. We've known for a while that Kevin Feige wants the character (and Galactus) because he once offered Fox the opportunity to keep Daredevil in exchange for those two, a deal they refused despite them sitting on a shelf gathering dust ever since.

Now, the Russo Brothers have weighed in on the reports and it sounds like we can forget about seeing the Silver Surfer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...for now, at least! "I don’t think we own Silver Surfer," Joe points out in the video below when asked about a possible cameo. "But it’s fan-wish
fulfillment and, you know, if this Disney-Fox deal goes through there’s going to be a lot more characters coming into the Marvel universe, so some of those crazy fan theories might come true."

However, just because that cosmic character won't be showing up doesn't mean there won't be plenty of amazing characters on screen. "We look at the poster and think ‘who’s left?’ I don’t know who we didn’t get," Joe says. Anthony had this to say about the process of putting the movie together:

"It’s hard to second guess, you know, part of the beauty of these movies is that there are so many different directions that you can go. There are so many different choices you can make and I think that’s part of the fun of the process for Joe and I, in those early days, feeling out where we want to go with the movie, sitting with Marcus and McFeely and the writers, talking through all the possibilities, and once you centre on a road, just running with it. I don’t think we have any regrets about the choices we’ve made I think we’re very happy with it, but yeah, the material is infinitely malleable."

Are you disappointed about Silver Surfer not helping in the battle against Thanos? Sound off below.

Not surprised tbh.
But I'm sure as hell down for a possible solo-movie at any point in the future.

@BootyPeep - hell yes. Luke Evans for the lead

@BootyPeep - just think about what he said for a minute. He’s not sure if they have the rights to SS? Seriously? You mean to tell me the Russo’s never asked? I don’t buy it. SS may not be in the movie, but that was the lamest response yet. IMO the answer is still up in the air. He could have said “we tried, but we just couldn’t obtain the rights.” That’s believable.

That's a NO

@DoubleD - its not actually. They only said they don't OWN him. They did not say there was not a character sharing deal like Ego.

Maybe he shows up in an after-credits scene; can't think about one reason why Fox would still care about that character when they are trying to sell their company to Disney anyway. They are already negotiating for months, so something like this could already been discussed. And on top of that, adding such a CGI-character isn't that hard (they don't need to cast an actor yet if he doesn't speak). Don't think it will happen, but it's fun to speculate of course. The Russo Brother's would never say 'yes' to these kind of questions...

@Unites - they will care if the deal doesn't go through. And there would be no way for them to realistically use him outside of a cameo that's extremely vague to avoid legal issues since it was made before the deal was even a possibility.

@Unites - there will be no characters that fox owns in this film
It's just not happening, legally

@ThorArms - unless they did a character sharing deal like with Ego.

You ever see Gone Girl? She played Ben's twin sister in that movie. Really good actress. Also stars in The Leftovers.

I cant believe we are a little over a week away. I’m seeing it a week from this Wednesday. It’s surreal. I am a little disappointed by this rumor squash tho. I held onto the belief that he would show up in some capacity..i always thought a movie this big needs to have a surprise or two of this scale but I guess not.

See I can’t understand this thinking... why set urself up to expect something that is technically not supposed to happen. That’s like buying a reg burger and expecting cheese in it and being disappointed it’s not there... does anyone realize how this ruins the experience for u?

I'm just trying to figure out why Metacritic still has Kurt Clendenon listed to play Silver Surfer in Avengers 3 and 4.

Also, there was a recent report about a month ago that Feige had made another deal with an outside studio the same way he did for Spidey in Civil War.

Lastly would be the recent rumors that Fox is producing a Silver Surfer movie with Brian K Vaughan (Saga, Y: The Last Man) at the helm.

Idk, probably nothing, but all those look like puzzle pieces to me.
