Avengers: Infinity War is the biggest superhero movie of all-time and it features arguably the most impressive cast we've ever seen in any genre. Names like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and Zoe Saldana all appear here alongside countless others but which of them received the most screentime and just how many fan-favourites ended up appearing for a scant few minutes?
Well, one Redditor - ninewheels0 - has combed through the movie and rounded up each lead character's time to the nearest quarter minute to reveal who appeared for the longest in the film.
We're now counting down each hero and villain's role in Avengers: Infinity War from least to most significant in terms of minutes and we think you'll be surprised by the results. Characters who seemingly had a lead role ended up barely appearing while others were on screen way longer than we realised. So, to check out the full list, all you guys need to do is click on either of the buttons below.
Less Than A Minute
Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Heimdall (Idris Elba), and The Collector (Benicio del Toro) all appeared on screen for only around 45 seconds each, no great surprise considering the fact they were killed off in short order. Poor Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) really got the short end of the stick, though, as he was seen for a paltry 15 seconds! Still, as cameos go that's not too bad and he was definitely memorable.
Under Two Minutes
Seeing as the Russo Brothers spent so much time working with Sebastian Stan in the Captain America movies, you'd think that Bucky would have received more than only two minutes of screentime! Still, he fared better than Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and the Red Skull (Ross Marquand), both of whom were seen for 90 seconds. Then again, that was such a cool cameo, it's hard to complain!
Meanwhile, Black Panther breakouts M’Baku (Winston Duke) and Shuri (Letitia Wright) received only sixty seconds each, as did returning characters General Ross (William Hurt), and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). To be fair, both of them were clearly only ever supposed to make brief appearances here.
Five Minutes And Under
War Machine (Don Cheadle) has never really been a fan-favourite hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but he still managed to stay on screen for three minutes in Avengers: Infinity War, a time which places him dead ahead of Wong (Benedict Wong) and Eitri (Peter Dinklage) who had a total of 2:45. That's a whole half a minute longer than what The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) did with his 2:15.
Here's perhaps the biggest shock in this list, though; Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) only showed up in the epic ensemble for three and a half minutes, a paltry amount considering the fact his solo movie was such a success. Still, T'Challa managed to beat Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and Groot (Vin Diesel) as they were all only granted around 3:15 each.
The Black Order fared a little better (despite being totally underwhelming) as Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) received four minutes of screentime, while Proxima Midnight (Carrie Coon) and Cull Obsidian (Terry Notary) clocked in at 3.45 each and Corvus Glaive followed with a solid 3:30.
The Guardians of the Galaxy had a decent role in Infinity War so it probably won't surprise you to learn that Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) were just under five minutes with 4:45.
Five To Ten Minutes
It felt like Spider-Man (Tom Holland) had a pretty significant role in this movie but he only webbed up around 7:30 of screentime, a number which is actually a minute less of what he received in Captain America: Civil War. Talking of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), the star-spangled hero didn't really get to shine here because he appeared for 6:45 and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) wasn't too far behind with six minutes. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), meanwhile, was only seen for around five minutes.
Much of Avengers: Infinity War revolved around The Vision (Paul Bettany) and Thanos wanting to get the Mind Stone from his forehead and he received 9:45 minutes for his efforts (a time which included TWO death scenes). His love interest wasn't too far behind as Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) was around for 9:15 and Bruce Banner and his alter-ego The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) appeared for 8:45.
Star-Lord
We've now got to the point where each of these characters received ten minutes of screentime or more, so we'll now be counting down to who appeared for the longest amount of time in Avengers: Infinity War.
Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) may have drawn the ire of fans for his decision during that battle with Thanos on Titan but he was still given plenty of time to shine in this movie with a total of 10:15. However, he's not the Guardian with the biggest number of minutes in the movie and we'll get to that a little later.
Doctor Strange
There's still no word on that long rumoured sequel for Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) but he managed to conjure up eleven and a half minutes of screentime in Avengers: Infinity War, a sign perhaps that Marvel has plenty of faith in the character as a lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thor
The God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) was given a meaty role in this movie as he had to deal with the fallout from Loki and Heimdall's death and find a new hammer - the Stormbreaker - to take the fight to the Mad Titan with. As a result, the hero clocked up an impressive 14:30 in Avengers: Infinity War.
Iron Man
It probably won't surprise you to learn that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) had a significant chunk of Avengers: Infinity War's screentime to himself as he seemingly remains the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most popular character with moviegoers. In total, he could be seen here for 18 minutes.
Gamora
Heading into this movie, we could have never imagined that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) would play such an important role in proceedings but she ended up stealing the show here as she embarked on a pretty horrifying journey with the Mad Titan. She fell just shy of twenty minutes with a total of 19:30.
Thanos
Before the release of Avengers: Infinity War, the Russo Brothers frequently claimed that Thanos (Josh Brolin) was the movie's lead character. Well, they weren't kidding because not only did he steal the show in this movie but he clocked up an impressive 29 minutes of screentime. The Mad Titan was fantastic from start to finish and definitely the best villain we've seen in the MCU to date.
