AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Star Sebastian Stan Talks BLACK WIDOW Solo Film As Well As Bucky And Cap's Friendship

Bucky Barnes has proven to not only be a standout character for fans but also arguably the most complex and interesting character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is he we have to thank for the current status quo of our earthbound Avengers.

The longest POW in history and perhaps the best antagonist the franchise has had to date, Sebastian Stan's Barnes has a fascinating relationship with many of the heroes in the MCU's roster. One teased in Captain America: The Winter Soldier is his history with Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, a dynamic that many fans wish to see explored in the future.

With the recent news that Johansson may finally be getting a solo outing as the former Russian spy, BadeTaste.It  asked Stan whether this is something he'd be interested to explore and if he'd like to appear in a Black Widow film:

They have a very nice history in my opinion. It's very intricate...the truth is he actually taught her in the comic books. He was a teacher to her. It's all set during a specific, interesting time. The Cold War. It's all a very...spy, thrillerish, noirish story...it would be very interesting to explore that on film. I would love it if they do that. You know, I hope. Maybe they will

The Political Animals actor further commented on his character's relationships within the MCU while speaking with HeyUGuys at the Red Carpet and press event for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War in London. Stan spoke about the Rogers / Bucky dynamic that has set both the screen and the internet fandom alight with their brilliant chemistry and emotional narrative that could be perceived as either fraternal or romantic.

Stan revealed that despite all that has happened between the two characters, and the two-year gap between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, their connection isn't something that will easily fade:

Well you know, it's never gonna go away. That's history. Your past doesn't ever leave you. It's more what you learn to do with it.

What do you think about Stan's comments? Would you like to see the character show up in a Black Widow film? What do you think Barnes' relationship with Steve will be like in Infinity War?  Leave your thoughts below.

Yes! He needs to be in the BW movie. Bucky and Natasha are by far my favorite marvel couple

You can get away with it.

It’s been made abundantly clear that Bucky and Hydra had nothing to do with Natasha’s Red Room experience. The extent of their prior relationship begins and ends with him shooting her while escorting that engineer as detailed in TWS.

But an opportunity to link them using their shared experiences of being weapons for dubious organizations is there. Widow knows all about trying to wipe the RED FROM ONE'S LEDGER and Bucky will certainly have to truly reconcile with what he's done. More so than he did in Civil War. Widow could belp with that.

I'm sure after Steve bites the bullet, the two can connect over that. I dont think anyone is as close to Steve as Bucky and Widow. Except for Sam.

@BlackBeltJones

I do hope Bucky gets a fresh cut soon.

@BlackBeltJones - "It’s been made abundantly clear that Bucky and Hydra had nothing to do with Natasha’s Red Room experience" well, I'm not so sure about that, he still had the soviet star, spoke russian in tws and was in Siberia of all places

@BlackBeltJones - in civil war when buck was choking didn’t widow mention “you don’t remember me?” Hopefully their relationship will be explored

@Polaris - good point.

They could weave in a past connection that maybe both are unaware of.

An old OP Soviet Bucky was on that intertwined with Nat's somehow.

@regularmovieguy - The Wakandan's need to hook him up. They have the best haircuts. Those Vibranium clippers must really do it.

@rockinsokinrobo - I always took that as her referencing when he shot her in the stomach and/or back when they tangled in TWS. But ya never know. Could mean more.

@BlackBeltJones - Nah.

You wouldn't say that to someone who shot you and was a one-time enemy. Especially seeing as how he was mind-washed and wasn't aware of what he was doing anyway.

She's definitely referring to something more personal. Perhaps a brief romantic sting. Something that happened in their past.

@BlackBeltJones - I like that idea, the two connect over the losses from the A3&4 which is undoubtedly going to be Captain America and Bruce Banner.

@Polaris - Yea I don't get the "abundantly clear" part...not sure where that was explained.

@CheepTricks - “Especially seeing as how he was mind-washed and wasn't aware of what he was doing anyway.” - In Civil War, Bucky straightout tells Stark that he “remembers it all”.

“She's definitely referring to something more personal. Perhaps a brief romantic sting. Something that happened in their past.“ - If that we’re true, then that would be the story she relayed to Cap in Winter Soldier instead of the brief encounter when he shot her. She’s sharing the very little first-hand information she has on him. Bucky just shot Fury; she wouldn’t hold out information like that in their effort to catch him. All she knows about him at that point are the rumors and her near-death escape.

@Dunejedi -

So yea, probably nothing too personal. But she does know him.

I didn't realize that was what BlackBeltJones was referencing. Was thinking he meant that fight we saw (where he shot her).

There's still more to expand though. She's a spy. Not an open book. She doesn't reveal all her secrets.

I think I’d rather him not appear in a Black Widow solo film (at least not a first one) but I’m not really terribly against the idea either.

I would not want them to revisit the past and give BW/WS a unique relationship, other than both being Russian. i think that would ultimately cheapen Civil War.

Hope they do something like that, I have always loved James and Natasha's relationship in the comics, also I think this could bring a fresh take on the MCU's Black Widow.
