Bringing Marvel's TV Heroes To A Movie Like AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Is Reportedly "A Bridge Too Far"

Heading into Infinity War, fans were optimistic that we might see the likes of Daredevil and Luke Cage step up to help hold off Thanos but both Kevin Feige and the writers don't see it ever happening.

While TV shows like Daredevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they also stand apart from the movies produced by Marvel Studios. While it's often said that boils down to the complications which come with lining up the production schedules of the company's big and small screen offerings, it's more likely got something to do with the divide between the two divisions.

Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has once again addressed the possibility of a crossover while promoting Avengers: Infinity War and it sounds like a subject he's getting a little sick of talking about. "I don’t know. It really remains to be seen. So much of what they’re doing has been set. We’ve already shot Avengers 4. So much of what we’re doing is set, but I just, I never say never, but I’m not sure when that would be." On the plus side, at least he's open to the idea (on the surface).

Avengers: Infinity War co-screenwriter Christopher Markus, meanwhile, wasn't quite so positive and pointed out that it's simply too much of a challenge to try and bridge the gap between these two - but still the same - worlds. "It’s hard to factor them in," he explains, "because that is what, five more heroes and you’re trying to blend them in and trying to get them, you know, we’ve taken some people off to the end of the universe but again, it’s a bridge too far, I think on a storytelling level."

That pretty much draws a line under it and while it's a shame that we'll never get to see the likes of Daredevil and Iron Fist helping out The Avengers, stranger things have happened so maybe we're best off just waiting and seeing for now. After all, who thought Spider-Man and the X-Men would ever be in the MCU? For now, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this news in the comments section.

I can't help but feel like they just give excuses everytime someone asks. They could work out a deal to share Spider-Man with Sony, but putting a Netflix character in a film is too hard?

Even a cameo would be amazing at this point.

Which is why I wish they wouldn't have set these characters in modern day. At least 3 of these 4 characters were made to be set in 70's New York. What a waste.

Pretty much. They have moved dates and delayed both Black Panther and Captain Marvel for Spider-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp and managed to make a deal to bring back the F4 and X-Men and almost did the Inhumans on cinema but they can’t get around like 4 more heroes?

This disconnection between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV is the MCU only but greatest flaw for not saying failure. Some times I wonder why Feige even bothered to allow Coulson to be brought back to life, did he wanted it or was it all Perlmutter and Jeph Loeb? Was it Feige or Loeb who actually got back DD and the other characters? Because only now we have as well Silver Surfer the condition Fox asked to keep around with the F4 when they gave back DD and Joe Carnahan’s reboot was scrapped.

Maybe if Feige had not parted ways from Perlmutter in late 2014 in order to secure more independency as well as to avoid losing RDJ from walking away from Civil War then maybe the current MCU would be tighter with the TV shows.

@NinnesMBC - "Some times I wonder why Feige even bothered to allow Coulson to be brought back to life..."

That was still during the time he reported to Perlmutter and the creative committee. In general, I think he and Loeb have their "my side of the street, your side of the street" stuff worked out, but it is definitely a big shortcoming.

Even revolutionaries have limits and blind spots. For all that Feige innovated in the field of blockbuster franchises, it was always up to someone else to take it that next step further. Maybe it should have been Star Wars, or even Star Trek, or DC, or Harry Potter, but there's some franchise out there that should have taken the shared-universe model and made it truly multi-platform.

Someone is going to do it when the planets align for that other franchise. But either Feige's ambitions weren't big enough (which is a remarkable statement for a guy who basically serialized blockbusters), or he never had the real authority to try to take it bigger.

If the MCU goes on long enough, interesting TV/Movie crossovers will happen. It's basically inevitable.

But as long as the movies are cruising along with this kind of success, and there still aren't any widely beloved Marvel TV characters with really open schedules, it's basically unlikely that anyone will ever try.

I've said for years now that the first step will have to be the TV shows not being renewed, and (depending on Agents of SHIELD's fate) that still hasn't happened yet. But once that happens, you start to get potential for "oh, look" cameos. But for something more substantial, you need something special to happen.

That said, all of that analysis goes back before the Fox deal. It's definitely possible that the movie side is so crammed that even the far fetched options are all but impossible. It's truly an embarrassment of riches over there. And the need to reach down into the farm team for a pinch hitter is very low indeed.

By now Feige has made his dislike for Marvel TV very clear, we will never see those characters in movies. ABC, Netflix and movies are so far apart that they might as well be three separate universes.

@Archgoat - Feige has never said he dislikes the TV side or its shows, its just fans making assumptions and excuses as to why he's not donig crossovers (what we do know is his feudwith Perlmutter, but we dont know if theres any feud with Jeph Loeb who runs the tv side of the mcu)

As of right now I’d rather they save this for once the Fox merger is done.

No one wants a whole story arc for the tv characters in the movies. Personally, a simple name drop would satisfy me pretty damn well. Just do something.

All they need to do during a big battle scene that takes place in NYC is to see Daredevil, Jones, Cage and Iron Fist battling the hordes of enemy foot soldiers. Even a simple throw away line of Jones making a wise crack about "missing dealing with ninjas, thugs and psychopathic ex-boyfriends" would be an epic shout out.

Spider-man shows up in Civil War, presumably just because the Avengers are aware of powered individuals who make the news and Tony has the means to track Peter down. At the very least, Luke and Jessica would be on their radar. People are less interested in the SHIELD characters appearing, but Daisy is probably the most famous non-movie powered character since Quake made national news.

It really isn’t. It would be so easy for them to just show up in a final battle in NY or to be shown at the end in the formation of a new team like they did in Age of Ultron. The real issue is the control of the characters and separation of the tv and film divisions not storytelling reasons

I'm so tired of this 'It's all connected" crap. I blame Jeph Loeb for that garbage line. He wanted audience buy-in with the television shows and its n. The truth is the Marvel Television shows aren't connected either. You don't see ABC shows reference the Netflix heroes or Hulu's The Runaways. If the television side is so disjointed in keeping their TV universe connected, why the hell do we hold the film producers accountable for something we don't with television producers? So folks get off this insatiable need for everything to be connected. The films are their thing and EVERY TV distributor, ABC, Freeform, Hulu are their own individual thing too.

Honestly, I'm thankful that they aren't connected. I say that as a Marvel fan. We know there is a MOVIE script out there for The Runaways. We know Marvel Studios has THEIR version of The Inhumans. In the films, The Defenders wasn't co-opted by a TV show that lasted a single season. So at some point, when the TV series go off the air, Marvel Studios could do their version. We may not ever see it but the potential is always there. TV shows come and go -but films are forever!
