As you may recall, there were reports quite some time ago that Benedict Cumberbatch's scenes in Avengers: Infinity War would have to be shot with a stand-in because of his busy schedule. Well, in a very interesting turn of events, the actor has now revealed that it was actually Josh Brolin who was absent from the set of the Marvel movie and that a stand-in ended up doing much of his mo-cap work.
"They used a stand-in for Josh. Josh wasn't in there for much, he did his bit and then a lot of stuff with a lot of us and him was missing because, I guess, he was doing Deadpool 2 and I was doing Melrose and The Current War," Cumberbatch revealed before noting that he personally was actually on set for the majority of time despite reports of his face being painted over that of a stand-ins.
"But we made it work," the British actor continued. "It's often the case you can act with other actors anyways, in certain scenarios because of the amount of additional stuff you have to fit in with the environment or the magic or whatever it is that's coming out of your hands or your ass."
While it's a shame to think that Brolin wasn't actually there, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel have never set foot on the Guardians of the Galaxy sets for shooting and that's never had a negative impact on their performances as Rocket and Groot. That's a point reiterated by Cumberbatch in regards to Brolin's work on Avengers: Infinity War (and let's face it, he probably knows better than us). "I don't feel robbed of the opportunity, and there's plenty of footage showing there's definitely all of us there."
