Right, you've got this far but stop reading immediately if you still haven't seen Avengers: Infinity War! In the movie, when Thanos travels to the planet where the Soul Stone is hidden, he's greeted by a mysterious figure whose identity is obscured by a cloak. Moments later, we learn that it's actually the Red Skull, the lead villain from Captain America: The First Avenger who was seemingly obliterated when he got his hands on the Tesseract during his battle with the young Steve Rogers during WWII.

However, if you thought that Hugo Weaving had somehow been convinced to reprise the role - after previously saying "It's not something I would want to do again" - then think again! While it definitely sounds like him in Avengers: Infinity War, it's now been confirmed that it's actually The Walking Dead's Ross Marquand (Aaron) who takes on the role of the former HYDRA leader in this movie.

The actor is well-known for his impressive celebrity impressions and actually does a great job of nailing Weaving's voice while playing this character. In fact, he makes it tough to differentiate this version from the original and it will be interesting seeing if he now makes his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the iconic villain. What do you guys think? Be sure to let us know your thoughts below.

I knew it wasn’t Hugo Weaving, but it did sound close. Can’t wait to see it tomorrow.

He was awesome. Maybe this means he'll start to play a bigger part again?..

His impressions are really great too.

@Nebula - They really are. I'd only seen him on the Walking Dead, where he does an impression of a guy who gets barely any screentime.

Honestly I couldn’t place the voice at first and was just thinking that sounds a lot like a guy from Lords of the Rings and then after the reveal I let out a long extended silent oooooooooohhh. He does a pretty good impression.

@TheUnworthyThor - I just thought he sounded different because of being in isolation on an alien planet for so long.

Couldn't this guy play Han Solo in the upcoming star wars spin-off?

I realised about halfway through the scene that it wasn't Weaving, but he did a pretty great job.

Pretty much me when the reveal came...

And at the time I thought, surely there’s no way that’s Weaving?!

@ChangAlang - I'm assuming we all had the thought "Death!?" but nah. Bit of a cock block for the people who wanted that.

@Nebula - haha Yep!

Ah well, still a great wow moment for me.

I also wondered if Nebs was going to get the Gauntlet during the Titan fight scene... Silly me though.

@Nebula -
Saw the film again today, heard quite a few in the crowd mumbling about it being 'Death' - unsure why they did not do that. Death as the guardian of the Soul Stone makes more sense to me than Red Skull randomly discovering it and then becoming a sort of manifestation of it.

@Nebula - Inthink he still is Death. The cloak is a reference and he basically mentions being a puppet forced to show others the path to the Soul Stone.

Red Skull obviously died in pursuit of the Stones and is now Deaths slave. I also believe young Gamora after the snap is Death using the enslaved Soul of Gamora to speak with Thanos.

All who died by Infinity Stones could be in there as slaves of Death leading to a Contest of Champions / Secret Wars hybrid.

Oh man... A Russo Brothers Avengers film... What a ride.

I'll need to watch it a few times before I can really get perspective on it, but after one viewing: I would describe it like birthday sex with your significant other you've been with for years. Nothing all that surprising, but it's still way better than what you're used to.

@Spock0Clock - Proper prepositional phrases are old school. Modern day conventional English says you throw that ish at the end. ;)

Most surprising moment of the movie for me. I know a lot of people were holding out hope he'd turn up again, but I really didn't think it was going to happen.

What would have been the most shocking moment (and most controversial) - during the near-death(?) scene where Thanos reunites while child Gamora - for a second I thought there was going to be a major twist and that Gamora was behind everything or was at least a co-conspirator. Not sure how I would have felt about that, but that would have been really shocking.

@ptick -
Depending on how Thanos is portrayed for Avengers 4, i think it would be interesting if the child Gamora he see's ends up sort of being a personification of his madness/insanity - convincing him to do things.

@Scarilian - At first I thought he was dead when he was seeing her but then what blew my mind is when they recreated the farm ending from the comic. It made me wonder how much time had passed between those moments because it looked like he had been there for a long while.

Yeah, was surprised they actually ended things in that way, was probably one of my favourite scenes - simple, but effective. A lot of great moments adapted from the comics throughout the movie. Hopefully we'll see all the scenes that got cut from the film with the DVD/Blu-Ray release.

I think the movie sort of implied that it was a 'next morning' scenario given his dialogue with Doctor Strange on Titan. I'm guessing the Infinity Gauntlet healed his wounds quickly, he was effectively a god at that point.

Saw this movie last night and enjoyed a movie that I did not know I was waiting for. Easily my favourite Marvel movie to date. I still can not believe that they did this. This is truly a movie for the hardcore fans as people not familiar with the universe would have trouble keeping up.

This movie will give this community SO MUCH to talk about in the next year.
