SPOILERS: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Cleared Up The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Confusing Timeline

Thanks to Spider-Man: Homecoming, there's been a lot of confusion about the Marvel Cinematic Universe's timeline but it turns out that Avengers: Infinity War may have finally cleared things up for us...

Spider-Man: Homecoming kicks off with a flashback to the events of The Avengers and that's followed by a title card reading "8 Years Later." That immediately confused fans as it would mean Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, and Black Panther all took place in 2020, something which doesn't make a lot of sense when The Avengers was supposed to take place in 2012 and the MCU moves in real-time.

However, things are cleared up in Avengers: Infinity War when Iron Man's conversation with Doctor Strange reveals that Loki and the Chitauri's invasion of New York took place six years ago. That places this movie in 2018 as there's no way Spider-Man: Homecoming was set two years after this one.

This means Spider-Man: Homecoming's title card should have read "4 Years Later" instead of "8 Years Later." How that oversight came to pass isn't clear but it could be more Sony's doing than Marvel Studios. Either way, it's nice to have things clarified because this is something which has been bothering fans since last year! What did you think of Avengers: Infinity War? Sound off down below.

@OptimusGrime - I kinda, sort of, wished the snap didn't happen, because I know those people aren't staying dead. Marvel has gone to that well too often, but the snap simply had to happen. My guess is that Nebula will get a hold of that gauntlet in the next film, like she does in the comics. We might even get some cosmic beings! I have no idea how Iron Man can be the key to winning the fight, though.

@Luminus - Yeah the snap had to happen! They gave everything..but it wasnt enough..and true to thanos word..he should have gone for the head hahah. The star lord bit where they nearly had the gauntlet off and he went all rogue and ruined everything. If dr strange knew that was gonna happen ..he should have said something - also pissed me off a bit.
The spiderman bit at the end was super emotional hahah...Excuse my ignorance..how do we know iron man is key to winning the fight?? Have i missed something?

@Luminus - Also i think early on filming this they knew it had to be split up into 2 part...such a massive ensemble piece / cast...they had to make the effect of the snap proper impactful

@OptimusGrime - Dr strange probably did know it was what had happen though, that is why he said "This is what has to happen tony"

@OptimusGrime - When Dr. Strange looked into the 14,000,605 possible futures, finding only one in which they win, that's when he decided to give up the time stone. Before that, he didn't care about anyone else's life, if it meant having to do that. He told Iron Man and Spider-Man that their lives were not more important than keeping the stone safe.
So, clearly, Iron Man is the key to winning. That's why he didn't stop Star Lord, either. It's all part of the one chance of winning.

@Luminus - Ahhhh...thats why he asked him to spare Tonys life! I see now.....so that all had to happen..because he went that far into the future... Wow..mind blown even further

@Luminus - Yeah. It felt like a response to the whole "why can't they kill anyone" criticism but they took it too far to the point that not only are they killing people we know are appearing in many more films after this but even if that wasn't the case it would mean dismantling what they built up over 10 years. Simply put, we know it's not permanent because it has no place to go after this.

And on top of that, we know exactly how this is going to be fixed...getting the Infinity Gauntlet to change everything back to normal. They might as well call the next movie Avengers: Forget The Last Movie Because of This.
