Watch AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR's Anthony Mackie Dodge A Question About Falcon Becoming Captain America

In the comic books, The Falcon takes over the mantle of Captain America but will the same thing happen on the big screen after Avengers: Infinity War? Anthony Mackie doesn't seem to want to say...

You'd best believe that there are some major surprises on the way in Avengers: Infinity War but Anthony Mackie isn't willing to spill the beans on them. In the video below, the interviewer points out to the actor that The Falcon became Captain America in the comic books to which he replied, "In the comics, yes. Twice!" When pushed to elaborate on that, he replied: "They’re good comic books!"

It definitely sounds like Mackie is trying to dodge the question but that could be because he's scared to give anything away. While the majority of fans would like to see Bucky become the new Captain America, he's taken on the role of the White Wolf in Wakanda now and putting Mackie in the suit would definitely add some diversity to the role. Then again, there's nothing to say Steve Rogers will die!

We'll just have to wait and see but with less than a week to go until Avengers: Infinity War hits
theaters, there won't be long to wait until we get some answers about what comes next for Captain America. What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.

I wouldn’t mind a movie called Captain America and The Falcon that was a buddy movie like they’ve been talking about. Obviously with Bucky Cap and Falcon. Stan and Mackie May have even better chemistry than even Evans had with either (not a knock on Evans).

In a different MCU, I would have liked to see several people "trying to be" Captain America after Steve retired or... *gulp* hamburger-time...

Mackie's Falcon, Bernthal's Punisher, maybe even Coulson or someone like Mace making a play for it, only to have Bucky come to reluctantly accept the mantle (for a while, and then Steve to return).

But that's a story for a bigger, more connected, and longer-lived MCU than the one we have now, and also an MCU that is planning on going on for another twenty years with these same actors (which may not be the case).

As it is, I think we're better off building whatever kind of robust pan-Avengers universe we can get. Falcon is Falcon. Maybe Bucky becomes Captain America for a stint. All the while keeping plenty of spotlight available for the ever-growing Marvel family.

Oooh, and also throw in a Citizen V in there, too.

@Spock0Clock - I could see them having bucky play cap in disguise, temporarily. Say if he died and they are trying to make it look like he didn't. For some reason.
Not sure if there's any comic arc like this but fans would get there Bucky Cap and they wouldn't have to go all in with it until they see how it turn out.

@Spock0Clock - I don’t really get the point of people stepping into Cap’s shoes in this universe though. He isn’t really the superhero he was in the comics, and therefore doesn’t have the same sort of influence or significance to ordinary people that he did in the comics. The Captain America shield doesn’t mean what it does in the comics, and so it wouldn’t really make all too much sense for people to try to be Captain America. The only Marvel heroes right now whose identities matter more than the person are Black Panther and maybe Spider-Man (though it seems he hasn’t gotten to that point yet).

@DerekLake - You're right for the most part, but Captain America does mean a hell of a lot to Bucky. That's the reason why that mantle-passing does work for me.

I don't mind if falcon takes over

but if Bucky takes the mantle

I'd rather have Bucky as Cap for awhile. But either would do well in the role. Just depends on what Marvel has in store post-Avengers 4.

Been thinking about characters likely to die or survive infinity war and avengers 4. While a lot of people seem convinced Iron Man will die, I feel like Tony is the most likely character to get the retire, walk off into the sunset, happily ever after Hollywood ending.

I think Cap is far more likely to die, but it also seems way too obvious. Plus, for all his talk of retiring, I feel like Chris Evans wouldn't mind sticking around in a reduced role. And as for Cap being replaced - Falcon doesn't necessarily have the same abilities and skills so that might not be the most valid option, while the idea of Bucky taking over also seems kind of unlikely given just how much of a tortured soul he seems to be in the MCU (even moreso than the comics).

Plus, would it honestly work having Bucky as Captain America, knowing he (admittedly, while brainwashed) murdered Howard and Maria Stark (which I don't think he did in the comics)? Based on all that, I actually feel like Bucky is the most likely candidate to die, in a redemptive way that brings his Winter Soldier arc full circle - revived as a killer, rediscovers who he is, dies as a hero.

I'd hate to see anyone leave the franchise to be honest, but it kind of has to happen, so I figure Bucky is the most likely to go. Also kind of think Bruce Banner will either die or permanently Hulk out like they hinted he would at the end of Ragnarok.

No thanks. If we can't have Steve, Bucky cap is the only thing to do.

After how well Black Panther did I half expect them to choose Falcon just because a black Captain America would make big waves and publicity, and probably be just as big. I love Mackie as an actor, mostly because of his great performance in The Adjustment Bureau. I loved Falcon in Winter Soldier, but I found him kinda unlikeable in Civil War. Not sure what it was. Hope he’s cool in Infinity War.

So sick of people saying “Bucky’s the white wolf now!” A bunch of KIDS called him that for a half second.....that is LITERALLY it! No other context, hell, not even SHURI calls him that! And I have to go with Bucky as cap as the better story choice. As good as Sams solo on Cap is, Bucky’s tenure was written by the mighty Ed Brubaker, and is a much better redemption story.

@DENNISsystem - The movie marketing refers to Stan as White Wolf. So he is WW; AT LEAST for this movie.

Steve is Nomad, Bucky is White Wolf and Sam is Falcon. We technically don't have a Captain America for anyone to take the shield from until Steve gets it back from Tony or someone else gets it.
