Will Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson Make A Surprise Appearance In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

We know that Agent Coulson will be part of Captain Marvel but when the Russo Brothers were asked about the chances of him showing up in Avengers: Infinity War, they remained surprisingly vague...

Rumour has it that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will wrap up with its fifth season and that leaves the door open to Clark Gregg making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We already know that's happening in Captain Marvel (presumably during 90s set flashbacks as opposed to the present day) but what about Infinity War or Avengers 4? Could Agent Coulson finally be reunited with The Avengers?

Asked at the Avengers: Infinity War press conference whether or not we should expect to see the fan-favourite character's return, Anthony Russo replied: "I'd like to talk more about bass fishing."

That was a reference to something Chris Pratt said earlier on when he dodged a question about Star-Lord's response to meeting Earth's Mightiest Heroes by talking about going bass fishing instead.

He followed that up by adding, "We thought about everybody in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and how they could play a role in the story." That's a frustratingly vague response but if Coulson is going to show up, it would be best for it to be a surprise as there are countless ways he could make an appearance in this ensemble. Do you think we'll see him meet back up with Iron Man and company?

I would like Coulson brought back to the main MCU if they're never going to give us Quartermain on the big screen.

Or heck even Rick Jones.

@Kurne - A secret agent can go by many names. I'd love to see Coulson using "Clay Quatermain" as an alias in the Captain Marvel movie.

Hell yes would love to see Agent Colson back in the MCU.

@Tusky - I meant Coulson.

@Tusky - Coulson never left the MCU, except when he died. He's been kicking ass and taking names for 5 years.

I have a sneaky idea that we will see Coulson but as Marvel are going for the 10yr closure thing it just include him as one of the casualties, MAS may be renewed but who says its with him?

Would be a shame, we all have a soft spot for Coulson...

@Mclane - Coulson was the everyman who the audiences identified with. He is like Lebowski's Rug - He brought the whole room together. It would be a shame if he didn't show up in some form or fashion. I hope he has a moment with Cap.

BTW, who says that Thanos is not responsible for the destruction of earth in AOS.

If so, I can’t wait to see Loki’s reaction too

@Luminus - Thanos' either gonna throw him in a portal or straight up vaporize him (He'll already have the Power Stone by then, I'm guessing).

Really, people are surprised? After we had pictures that show some characters in costumes from the first Avengers movie (presumably using Stark's BARF technology)?

I think he'll show up in Avengers: IW2
Asturgis
Asturgis - 4/23/2018, 3:32 AM
@BurningBeard - Yes, that's possible, even though to my knowledge, he brought back to the big screen MCU when Captain Marvel started production, months after Avengers 4 was done shooting, and literally a year after IW was finished. He said many times prior that he hadn't been asked to come back to the big screen yet, that's only recent.
Asturgis
Asturgis - 4/23/2018, 3:30 AM
In Avengers 4, maybe, but in IW, I don't see how. Clark Gregg, as far as we know, was contacted to come back to the movie-MCU months after IW was done shooting.

@Asturgis - If he is in either film, it will only be a small cameo role for closure or he may just be in a BARF scene. Either would have been filled in secret just like Fury's cameo in IM1 or Downey in Hulk.
Goldboink
Goldboink - 4/23/2018, 7:45 AM
@Asturgis - This is a secretive lot. They could have done his cameo in the dark of night and iced all those who witnessed it.

He better not return. Short of it being a flashback, it would be the biggest slap in the face to have him come back.

Btw Josh, rumor currently has it that SHIELD will be returning for a 6th season...

Don't put potential surprises right in the headline, and don't get my hopes up for Coulson in Avengers movies.

I can't see him returning just through BARF, the scenes from Avengers 1 that we've seen were at a point after he 'died'.

Now I'm going all crazy hoping he is in IW, maybe even just a little cameo with some of the AOS crew set away from the Avengers so they wouldn't need to know he's still alive to avoid that issue.
Maybe this has something to do with why we haven't been told about a 6th season yet?

I was thinking about this...I think it would almost be to these guys benefits to lie and say "NO he won't" then be vague. That way, if he does actually show up, people won't believe what they say in the future, and they won't get harassed as much.

Coulson was the connective tissue in the movies leading up to Avengers. NO WAY will they wrap up the first 10 years without him showing up somehow.
