AVENGERS 5: 10 Heroes Who Need To Join The Next Roster Of Earth's Mightiest Heroes In Phase 4 And Beyond

The Avengers haven't assembled in the MCU since 2019, but with so many new heroes now being added to this shared world, who should be next to join the team? Well, we have some exciting suggestions...

Feature Opinion

Marvel Studios has yet to announce plans for Avengers 5, though Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembling again seems inevitable given the success of that franchise.

It's obvious that when the team does return, the roster will look completely different. We're sure there will be a few familiar faces, but even they've gone through huge changes over the last few years. Sam Wilson, for example, is now the new Captain America, while the Scarlet Witch looks set to head down a potentially villainous route in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Some of the heroes featured here we've met, while others have yet to make their debuts. The one thing they all have in common, is that they'd bring a lot to both the Avengers franchise as a whole and this team of heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

To take a look at who we think should make the cut, simply click on the "Next" button below!

10. Yelena Belova

39483341324333e1

Natasha Romanoff made the ultimate sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame and Scarlett Johansson's tenure as the hero is clearly over. However, the future looks bright for Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, and after that meeting with Hawkeye, the next logical step is for her to join the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

The fact "Val" sent her after an innocent man at the behest of someone like Eleanor Bishop (who was working for the Kingpin of Crime) will have hopefully helped Yelena realise that the life of an assassin is not one she should return to.

Instead, tracking down the new family Natasha created will give Yelena the opportunity to find the same sort of bond with the Avengers her sister once had. That could be transformative for the character and like the last woman to hold the "Black Widow" mantle, we can quite easily imagine Yelena becoming a key player in this team's adventures.

9. Daredevil

39483341324333e1

The Man Without Fear has always been something of a reluctant member of The Avengers in the comic books, frequently refusing to join their ranks as Daredevil isn't exactly a team player.

However, it sounds like Marvel Studios plans to reinvent Matt Murdock, giving him a new red and yellow costume (based on the first suit he donned on the page) and potentially teaming him up with the larger than life She-Hulk. As a result, this Daredevil feels like a character who could be an integral part of The Avengers and perhaps even one of the team's leaders.

That may sound like a departure from the hero's dark and grounded adventures on the streets of Hell's Kitchen, but a spot among The Avengers would be a nice way to freshen the hero up and explore new sides of the lawyer turned vigilante. There's also no reason his street-level adventures couldn't be explored elsewhere.

8. Wong

39483341324333e1

If Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' post-credits scene was any indication, the MCU's new Sorcerer Supreme may already be working closely with The Avengers to protect reality.

However, with Doctor Strange seemingly about to take on a very different sort of role in this shared world - possibly even as the leader of a Multiversal Defenders - it would be awesome to see Wong take centre stage. Benedict Wong is one heck of a talent, and has proved himself a really entertaining and compelling part of each Marvel Studios movie he's appeared in.

As an Avenger, Wong could show off the full extent of his abilities (remember, he's way more experienced than Strange) and bring a different perspective to the team. This would also mark a welcomed departure from the comics where Wong is still typically just Stephen's sidekick.

7. Sylvie

39483341324333e1

Yeah, this might seem like an odd suggestion on the surface, but why not spice things up and have a Loki Variant lend a hand next time The Avengers need to assemble?

Even after his apparent redemption, the original God of Mischief has too much history with the team to ever really fight alongside them. The threat posed by Kang the Conqueror is big enough to create some strange bedfellows, of course, but there's something particularly intriguing about what a character like Sylvie could bring to the table alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Sylvie's personality lends itself to adding a totally different dynamic to the one we're used to seeing in this team. She also wouldn't be the first villain to head down a far more heroic route thanks to the Avengers' guidance, and we're keen to see how this would play out.

6. She-Hulk

39483341324333e1w

With rumours swirling that Bruce Banner is heading off-world to track his son down (thereby setting the stage for a "World War Hulk" adaptation), pulling Jennifer Walters from Disney+ and giving her a spot in The Avengers is a logical next step for that character following She-Hulk.

There's still so little we know about the MCU's take on the character at this point, it's tough to start throwing too many ideas around about what she would bring to the team. However, the comic books provide some clues, and the fact Jen keeps her intelligence when she transforms and has unique relationships with everyone from Thor to Carol Danvers leaves us excited.

Phase 4 has really felt like an era of Marvel Studios movies and TV shows passing the mantle to new characters. Establishing She-Hulk as a key part of this team before her cousin returns to Earth for all-out war is an absolute must.

5. Ms. Marvel

39483341324333e1w

Another hero we'll meet for the first time on Disney+ a little later this year, the MCU's Kamala Khan may not be an Inhuman, but that doesn't mean she'll be any less powerful than her comic book counterpart.

Ms. Marvel's powers appear to be akin to Green Lantern, and while it's a shame we won't see her embiggening on the small screen (and eventually the big one), Kamala has all the makings of a powerhouse superhero. Her youth could bring a similar dynamic to the team as Spider-Man's did once upon a time, albeit with a lot of fangirling over hero favourite Avengers!

Hopefully, Captain Marvel, Spectrum, and Ms. Marvel will choose to stick around on Earth at the end of The Marvels to help protect their home, with all three serving as members of The Avengers.

4. Bucky Barnes

39483341324333e1w

This would probably never happen if Iron Man was still around, but now Bucky Barnes has been fully healed of his HYDRA programming, there's no reason he can't become a regular addition to any Avengers team. Joining the MCU's Captain America, Bucky can bring a lot of knowledge and insight to proceedings, all while trying to honour his best friend, Steve Rogers.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was just as much about Bucky finding redemption as it was Sam Wilson wielding the shield, and that story arc should absolutely continue in the Avengers franchise.

It's doubtful now that Bucky will be given the chance to ever suit up as Captain America, but that doesn't mean he can't still hold his own on the battlefield and help turn the tide against any number of threats.

3. White Vision

39483341324333e1w

Yes, The Vision has already served on The Avengers, but not this iteration of the android. At the end of WandaVision, the hero regained his memories and flew into the distance, leaving us to wonder when he'll return and what sort of state he's in. He certainly didn't seem too worried about sticking around to find Wanda, and that alone may provide some clues.

Just like in the comic books, we're anticipating this "White Vision" will be an emotionless android, thereby completely changing his dynamic with both his fellow heroes and the world.

That won't mean he's not a hero, of course, but Earth's Mightiest might find it more than a little challenging to fight alongside a Vision who is less human than ever before. It goes without saying there's a lot to be mined from that concept, and we're anxious to learn how this updated version of the character will differ from his "predecessor."

2. Kate Bishop

39483341324333e1

There's a lot of chatter surrounding the "Young Avengers," but why not just add some fresh faces to the original team? The nature of making movies and TV shows means these young heroes won't stay young for long, and most are already well into their 20s, anyway. It's a nice idea in theory, but impractical in a lot of ways.

Kate Bishop proved herself a hero in Hawkeye, and there's really no reason why she can't now head straight into the main Avengers team without being sidelined as part of an offshoot group.

With a little extra training from Clint Barton, Kate can be every bit as important to Earth's Mightiest Heroes as her predecessor. After all, we're talking about a woman who helped take down the Kingpin and Tracksuit Mafia with just a bow and arrow! It would also be pretty funny to see the new Hawkeye's reaction to teaming up with her idols against a world-ending threat.

1. Shang-Chi

39483341324333e1

Shang-Chi wasn't exactly recruited by The Avengers at the end of his movie, but ended up on their radar and made aware they'll be there as backup if that cosmic threat tied to the Ten Rings comes calling. Something tells us that's a battle Shang-Chi will have to fight alone, but after proving himself there and against The Mandarin, it's pretty obvious he should join the team!

Prior to Shang-Chi's introduction, some fans questioned what a character like this could possibly bring to the Avengers beyond some impressive fighting abilities.

Well, now he's mastered the Ten Rings, "Shaun" is among the most powerful of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. We're talking about someone who rode a dragon into battle, so Shang-Chi can definitely hang with the big boys and help fend off even the biggest of threats to Earth and the universe.

If they are going to do Thunderbolts, then they are going to need to do Page 6 AND Page 7 Content BEFORE Page 2 Content. Let’s hope that phase 5 brings Page 11 Content and the whole Page 12 content team, so we can have the A vs. PC12 storyline!

@Eddyk68 - I think they would need to build up a really strong new team of Avengers if they're going to take on Page 12 content or they'll get wrecked 🧐

@Oberlin4Prez - That's what I'm saying! Let the heroes go about doing their own thing. F4 and X-Men can definitely fill the void of super hero teams for the time being.

I don't why the banner image of Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel is there, because they're obviously YOUNG Avengers members.

Anyway, think a cool line-upnwould be: Captain America, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Wasp, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Shang-Chi and She-Hulk. Doesn't need more than members I think.
