AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY May Give Doctor Strange An Unexpected New Role In The War Against Kang - SPOILERS

A very intriguing new rumour about Doctor Strange's role in the MCU heading into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, and it sounds like he could become as big an antagonist as Kang...

Doctor Strange is a great hero, but if one thing has become clear in recent years, it's that his decisions more often than not put reality at risk.

While Peter Parker had a role to play, that dangerous spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home very nearly brought countless Variants into the MCU. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and What If...?, meanwhile, drove home the danger Stephen Strange poses to the Multiverse.

At the end of his sequel, the former Sorcerer Supreme hopped into a portal alongside Clea to halt an incursion, and The Cosmic Circus has now shared an intriguing rumour about future plans for Strange in the Multiverse Saga.

Apparently, the idea heading into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars is to pit Strange against Kang, similar to Iron Man and Thanos. However, "Kang's perspective (and the angle Marvel Studios will want to pitch to audiences) is that he’s the hero trying to save the Multiverse from its greatest threat yet...Doctor Stephen Strange."

Yes, it appears Strange could be an unexpected antagonist in the MCU moving forward, with Strange likely blamed for the many incursions that are taking place across the Multiverse. Remember, Kang is attempting to stop those by wiping out divergent timelines, presumably to protect the one he calls home.

This explains why Sinister Strange hoped to wipe out his Variants and, according to the site's sources, "he has been terminating his variants to avoid the inevitable future of an incursion between two universes."

We're certainly intrigued by what all this means, especially as it's only a small part of a much larger picture. Strange believing he's doing what's necessary to save reality, only to be causing further problems, certainly isn't outside the realm of possibility.

After all, his comic book counterpart and The Illuminati willingly allowed incursions to take place if it meant protecting their own world, and Benedict Cumberbatch's time as the hero ending on a dark and tragic note feels oddly fitting.

How would you feel about seeing the fall of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Saga?

This better not happen.

We just had Thanos who thought he was the hero. We don't need another villain that thinks they are the hero. It's okay for a villain to just be a dick.

And Strange dying before we ever really see him reach his potential would be a huge mistake.

@CorndogBurglar -

Trial of the Vishanti, Sinners' Market, Torment and Triumph with Victor, literally hundreds of pages worth of untapped potential.

Black Priest Strange, please and thank you.

Also, make good on that K'ooth Ul D'ayn tease.

I mean, the three Kangs in the Quantummmmmmmmmmmania credits scene did seem perturbed that "they" were messing with the multiversal stability. It would make sense that they all collectively think they're the hero protecting all of existence while the heroes of Earth just keep screwing it up.

Nope, it’s this. There’s an eye on my forehead, oh no, never mind I’m happy. We’re stuck in the quantum realm and Kang’s dead, how do we explained this to the police?! oh, never mind we’re back home and there’s a million of him.

All this variant, multiverse, incursion, timeline stuff just continues to leave me more confused than anything else.

I just think of that picture of that guy from Its Sunny in Philadelphia with that confusing ass map.

God Empereror Strange?

@TheRose - I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if they went that route or something similar. To be honest I think that would play much better than Strange just rolling over to Doom/Kang and being their right hand man instead of just straight away trying to fix things which is more likely what he would actually want to do.

@ObserverIO - yeah I know, that's what I'm saying. Never quite sat right with me that Strange was so compliant.

@IronDean2099 - It actually makes sense that they would do this and, if they do God Emperor Strange, perhaps Holland’s Peter would indeed be the one to “come back and confront Strange” like Reed does to Doom. Then, Strange would come to the realization that Peter would be the better one to wield the power than he would, because he’s already seen what Peter would be willing to sacrifice to make things right (like Doom realized to Reed).

“It’s what we do”.

@kg8817 - Peter would have to convince him that he knows him. Maybe some random bit of information that he picked up in No Way Home to help his case. That would tie it in nicely.

For avid comic book readers....this is fun and fascinating stuff. To the general audience...and Marvel seems oblivious to it...this all sounds stupid and silly. I'm not sure this is going to produce the blockbusters they're desiring.

Don't know how I feel about this, Kang is meant to be the villain.
Vigor
Vigor - 3/2/2023, 8:21 AM
@marvel72 - villain doesn't have to mean evil without purpose. He has a purpose, it just costs the lives of trillions of people to achieve
(Destruction of every other universe).

He's the villain from the 616 heroes perspective. But from his perspective, to save his own timeline, he's the hero we need but don't deserve. Does that make sense?
It's just like how strange hopped universes to defeat Wanda, despite the risk of an incursion. He's still a hero. But to some that would also make him a villain

Wanda said it best throughout tbe movie, how strange can do things and get away with it, yet she can't. She called him a hypocrite. I think this whole time we have been rooting for the wrong guy (Dr. Strange)

Ahhh so THATS whom Sinister Strange was referring to when he said he lost to "him". He fought the battle against Kang and lost. And his universe was crumbling because of it

Also the Strange that the illuminati put down wasn't just some anomaly. That was a vision of 616's Stranges destiny. As someone who will cause incursions.

Its all starting to piece together. Wow I didn't imagine they had cookie crumbles of Kang in Doctpr Strange 2 til this article. I love it

@Vigor - Which Strange was sinister strange?! I dont remember that name ever coming up in the movie
Vigor
Vigor - 3/2/2023, 9:58 AM
@Shivermetimbers - strange with a 3rd eye who was in the crumbling universe who fought with music notes. He lost the incursion in his universe. He was killing other stranges which causes incursions. He then admits he lost to "him" but never says who he was.

Now we know likely "him" is Kang. Especially if this articles rumor comes true

Meh. This sounds bad, but nothing really matters in the MCU anymore. It’s all just a mess. I’ll probably see Guardians of the Galaxy, but it likely the last Marvel film I’ll care about.

Avengers 1 - We need to save the city.

Avengers 2 - We need to save the world.

Avengers 3 & 3 1/2: We need to save the universe.

Avengers 4 &5: We need to save infinite universes.

Avengers 6: We need to save money because no one cares anymore.

We already had a movie where someone from another universe said Strange is the biggest threat to the multiverse, so this could very quickly feeling like a rethread.

Much rather just see Strange and Clea try and stop Dormammu. And not just in the Dark Dimension. Already had my fill off Volume worlds in Quantumania.
