Marvel Studios currently finds itself in a major (no pun intended) predicament. With Jonathan Majors found guilty on one count of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree by a New York jury, his time as Kang the Conqueror has ended.
Earlier this week, a rumour found its way online suggesting Fear the Walking Dead star Colman Domingo is the frontrunner to replace Majors as Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - which is now going by Avengers 5 - and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Today, we have some fan art revealing what Domingo might look like as the MCU's new Kang.
It's not perfect, but we're sure you'll agree that he looks suitably impressive as the time-travelling supervillain. Marvel Studios doesn't need to explain this recasting, though the concept of Variants makes it easy enough to do so if that's the route they choose to head down.
The response to Domingo potentially playing Kang has been overwhelmingly positive and, if Marvel Studios is truly committed to the villain being this Saga's big bad, then it's hard to think of anyone better to pit Earth's Mightiest Heroes against in the next Avengers movies.
"I've been part of the Walking Dead universe, but when it comes to Marvel or DC, I'm like, 'I think I’m ready now. I’m worked out, I'm fit,'" Domingo previously said. "I think I want to play a villain. I just want to be a villain. I don’t want to be the good guy. I actually want to do some really dirty, nasty work."
With Michael Waldron penning the screenplays for The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, rumour has it Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi is in the running to direct both movies. However, so too are Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, the filmmaking duo behind Moon Knight, Loki season 2, and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again.
As far as we're aware, there's no frontrunner, but they're all considered top contenders. Interestingly, the current idea seems to be for a single director or directing team to helm not one, but two Avengers movies. It makes sense given how interconnected these projects are likely to be, and should ensure a smoother production and a more cohesive vision for the Multiverse Saga's grand finale.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars to follow on May 7, 2027.
