The last Avengers trailer set an iTunes record until TDKR squashed it, but that's not the point. As the release date inches ever closer, the public hype seems to be very low currently. Marvel WILL stop that. Maybe not Marvel, but we know the House of Mouse isn't going to step back and let Batman take the fame.
The previous trailer showed some action, and set up Loki as the main villain. Let me stress, LOKI will be the main focus in terms of villains. The villains ARE aliens. Confirmed, Fiege said it himself, and I quote, "The identity of the alien race is not impactful." Aliens. Not important to the story, other than being the MacGuffins used to unite the team.
Disney has made it clear that the new LEGO Avengers licensed sets will hit stores in April. We also know, through descriptions of the sets at Toy Fair, that the aliens are in at least one of these sets. So, we will know the identity of the aliens in the movie before April.
These means it is probable that the next trailer will include a shot of the aliens and reveal their identity. When is the next trailer? The Super Bowl. It will be a 30-second TV spot which will ideally show the public that this movie is a connection of all previous Marvel Studios films. It will show slight flashbacks, to again highlight the shared universe, then set up the premise and show the aliens.
This is when the marketing onslaught will begin. Starting with a longer trailer released about a week after the Super Bowl, a viral website, and some toys appearing in stores. By March, we will see smaller merchandise, like lunchboxes, backpacks, and apparel. By April, Avengers will be a household name. Toys like the LEGOs will launch, tie-in comics will release, and TV Spots will flood the airspace. Avengers will most likely perform quite well.
After that distraction, let me provide you with what the article was for: what the trailer will show. It will be released a week after the Super Bowl, as fore mentioned, and will be a much longer version of the 30 second spot. It will show that Steve, Tony, Bruce, and Thor are the same people as in their established movies and will blend them. After a forty five to sixty second catchup montage, the trailer will address the army, whoever they may be, and show the Avengers fighting them for the first time, in their unified glory.
