Robert Downey, Jr. On Joss Whedon, The Avengers and Thor

In this interview with MTV, RDJ reveals that he is not actually locked into playing Tony Stark in The Avengers yet, as well as his thoughts on Joss Whedeon and his experience visiting the Thor set.

"I don't know," said Downey when asked about his role in The Avengers. "I try not to think about that stuff, because everything changes in success, and everything changes in lack of success."

And what about Joss Whedon, the man that will(or is that still unconfirmed?)bring the team of super heroes to the screen..

"I'm not very familiar with the guy, but I will let Marvel make whatever decisions they deem appropriate," he said.

But RDJ did reveal that he has had a look around the set of Thor and he liked what he saw...

"I take it fairly seriously, as a bit of an ambassador from Marvel, it's important for me to just show up and let these guys know there's a presence and an awareness, and a gratitude, and a bit of a commiseration — because these are tough movies to pull off. I think between the casting and Branagh at the helm, I particularly feel that 'Thor' is on a really solid page right now,"

Asked what he though about Chris Hemsworth in the lead role of The Mighty one himself..

"It's interesting, isn't it? That guy is compelling even in small doses, so I bet getting to see him fully inhabit an iconic character should be good,"

Is it just me or watching that vid did his reply about Whedon come off like he wasn't saying what he really wanted to say? Maybe he's not a fan..or maybe he really isn't familiar with his work and I'm way off! Anyway, nice praise for Hemsworth there and interesting that he still hasn't fully committed to The Avengers, although having not read the script yet I guess its a smart move.

ROR: You beat me to it bud! I didnt see this when I posted mine onto the main page - could you delete it for me? :)

He'll be there for The Avengers - I'd bet my life on it! :) Good to hear that he's liking the way that Thor is shaping too...even though it's obvious that he wouldnt bad mouth it! Sounds like he has no clue who Joss Whedon is though, lol!

@ngu13, I was totally just about to say that! I guess there's quite a lot of similar thinking going on here today!
Anyway, I like the passion he seems to have for this. He's very dedicated. Norton seemed dedicated to Hulk as well, so I'm really hoping to see more of him and his influence on the character's story in Avengers.
Hemsworth and Evans are younger, so while they'll make contributions, I expect they'll take more of a back seat creatively.

Just about Josh! Its been deleted anyway so someone else must have did the honers. Yeah I'm sure nothing major is going to come along and cause him to pull out, but it would be nice to hear that they had the full cast locked in.

I dont' think there is anything to worry about here, RDJr's been saying for sometime now that his link to Tony Stark is not set in concrete. That hasn't changed the fact that he and Marvel have a strong relationship, in the end that's what matters most.

Getting a THUMBS UP from RDJ is always a good thing as reguards to THOR and the casting!

An AVENGERS without RDJ as Iron Man, is NOT an avengers movie to me! just IMO.

WHAT MOVIE IS RDJ SHOOTING RIGHT NOW? The only reason I ask is that his beard is shaped a little too closely to look like his Tony Stark goatee... What's up with that?

@Avenger: I'm sure he's doing some cameo shots for Thor or Cap.

uhh there was the World Premier of IM2 just the other day.. I am assuming he has his Tony Stark goatee for that very reason.

I completely agree with you, man. I hope RDJ doesn't forget what Iron Man and Marvel did for him. However, if he doesn't come back, I could care less. That's his loss.
