SECRET INVASION Star Samuel L. Jackson Reveals What Marvel Studios Did When His THE AVENGERS Script Was Stolen

Talking about his return as Nick Fury in Secret Invasion, Samuel L. Jackson reveals his copy of The Avengers script was stolen, prompting an investigation which led to...well, you can find out more here!

These days, Marvel Studios does a pretty good job of keeping its biggest secrets under wraps. We still get the odd leak and they definitely need to do something about all those test screening reports, but for the most part, the MCU is a pretty tight ship.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Secret Invasion star Samuel L. Jackson - who has been part of this franchise since 2008's Iron Man - discussed the level of secrecy surrounding his Marvel work.

That includes security shooting down drones which attempt to capture set footage from the studio's movies and TV shows!

"They shot one down," the legendary actor confirms. "And they followed one back to where the dude was. They found him and, yeah, they got him."

"There are worse examples than that," Jackson continued. "I remember when we got ready to do 'Avengers,' someone printed out a copy of my 'Avengers' script that had my watermark on it, and put it online for sale."

"I was shooting in Canada and Marvel came to Canada. It had been printed in the production office. They found out who it was, dude quit, left the country. They set up a fake buy for the script, dude didn’t show up. It was crazy."

Had that script leaked, it would have been huge. At the time, The Avengers was Marvel Studios' first $1 billion blockbuster and the plot being revealed in advance would have spoiled everything from The Hulk's battle with Loki to Agent Coulson's death and even Thanos' mid-credits scene appearance.

We'd certainly be intrigued to learn what became of the thief who Jackson says left the country and can't help but wonder if those infamous Marvel snipers are more than just an easy way for actors to dodge spoilery questions!

The first episode of Secret Invasion is now streaming on Disney+.

@TyrantBossMedia - yeah, actually they do. there are a lot of douchebags that ruin movies all the time... dropping profits and otherwise lowering paychecks for those involves for the current movie and future movies.

@TyrantBossMedia - Random YouTube creators would probably edit the script and make a better version. Looking at you Nando 🫣 😳 🥸

@VictorAlonzo - I don't know what Nando means. But yes, I know I could improve some of those crappy scripts.

@VictorAlonzo - Good video.
But have to point out, Problem is.

Peele, Edgar Wright, Noah Hawley, Vaughn

All this category of directors are going to be way better serving themselves by coming to DC now, because Gunn understands creatives.
Whereas X-Men is going to be another Marvel Middle Machine movie that is sand papered down to the NEXT MCU MOVIE. By a franchise that is already suffering fatigue and Mid Level after Mid releases, diluting themselves even further.

We've seen this happen time and time again, Why will it change somehow with The X-Men?
If they are even considering calling it something like "The Mutants" instead of the X-Men,
That's already not boding well. LOL
Shampoo Head. Rinse and Repeat.

Marvel is a close to DEAD HORSE.
DaCosta is the only one on this list I can see working with Marvel further. Marvels already is sure to be another MCU FAIL. This year.

@TempleRod - Nando has always had an interesting take on comic entertainment.

As far as your comments regarding MARVEL, I must reluctantly agree.

Maybe it's the fact I was a Cubs fan, but I love a good underdog story.

Right now MARVEL has every tool in place to become better than EVER.

Just wrote a solid script that FULLY AVOIDS PANDERING to all things outside of nerd lore.

We have the opportunity to introduce F4, X-Men, and a new cast of Avengers UNDER THE SAME UMBRELLA!!!

GO ALL OUT MARVEL. DESTROY EVERTHING THAT WAS. SEND IN GALACTUS, KILL ALL THE PREVIOUS 🦬💩. REBUILD THIS WORLD.

I doubt they'll do this... but a guy can dream...

“'To lose ONE script, Mr Jackson, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose TWO looks like carelessness.”

Remember when the leaked Tarantino first-draft for 'The Hateful Eight' also came from SLJ? Was it his agent or someone in their office who leaked that?

Ginley
Ginley - 6/22/2023, 3:32 PM
@BillyBatson1000 -

Why do people post this garbage?

It was well-reported that Tarantino had given the script to Roth, Madsen and Dern and that he believed it was likely Dern's agent who leaked it.

There's this thing called Google.

Check it out before posting anything else.

'Remember when we used to make movies that people actually cared about?'

Feels like everything being said at the moment is just to distract from the disastrous state of Disney & Marvel at the moment.

Off-topic: "Warner Bros. Discovery Negotiating $500 Million Deal to Sell Film and TV Music Publishing Assets"

https://variety.com/2023/music/news/warner-bros-discovery-500-million-deal-sell-film-tv-music-publishing-assets-1235652398/

"Warner Bros. Discovery is negotiating to sell around half of the storied Warner studio’s film and TV music-publishing assets for approximately $500 million, three sources confirm to Variety. The news was first reported by Hits.

While it is unclear exactly which assets are on the table, one source says that the rights to “slightly less than half” of the catalog, with a price of around $500 million, are likely to go to a major label, with Sony said to be in the lead. The catalog is believed to include music from such films as “Purple Rain,” “Evita,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Rent,” several “Batman” films and many more titles, as well as songs included in iconic films such as “As Time Goes By” from “Casablanca” — iconic titles to be sure, but again, it is unclear exactly which rights are in play. Top attorney Allen Grubman is said to be overseeing the deal for Warner Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

However, some observers cast a skeptical eye on the deal, saying that many of the company’s assets are more than a half-century old and are “declining” in value and difficult to exploit. They are said to consist largely of film themes and cues — with comparatively few conventional songs — that would seem to have little familiarity or resonance in the present or future. The catalog is currently under a multi-year administration deal with Universal Music Publishing."

@KingPatel @JoshWilding @MarkCassidy

--------------------------------------

I'm already seeing comments going around that are bringing in DC in the fold of this topic too:

"Genuinely curious how a 10 year DCU slate is gonna work if Warmer Bros is in this state. Especially if Aquaman 2 flops"

"Further proof that Zaslav is just trying to make it profitable and viable to resell in 2024 more likely to Universal."

"This is why they were so desperate to hype The Flash."

"I knew it…I called that WBD wasn’t done flogging off the silverware….and I suspect James Gunn will never get to make ANY of his proposed slate for DCU - I’ll give 2-5yrs before WBD is wrapped up as a production Studio & DC is sold to a 3rd party."

"Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn’t selling 50% of the studio’s film and TV soundtracks make it infinitely harder to license out/stream/release the TV shows and films?"

"I don’t want this but I’m thinking of a possible future where Amazon buys dc Comics."

"I told yall this last year. When they was selling music catalogs.. they couldn't afford to pay superman and wanted him to work and appear on shows for free..sad to here for people's jobs..but management fiddles to much with projects."

"Superman Legacy is never happening."

"How they gonna finance 10 years DC slate when they're this broke."

"They’ve got to find the budget for Gunns shit DCU somehow I guess."

"Disney about to acquire DC and now we will have the biggest crossover event between DC and Marvel comics."

"So we're supposed to believe they have to sell off this many key assets but they can fund Gunn's entire new universe?"

"WBD is down bad man. Just sell DC to Amazon or something at this point."

"I love that when superhero movies fail its any department but the ones that makes the superhero movies that the studios cost cut."

"Someone sell DC to a better studio already."

"Just sell everything DC to someone else please."

"Superman Legacy (if it even gets finished) might be WB's last hope."

Something similar-ish was reported back on Tuesday night about WBD being in talks to license some HBO original shows to Netflix. But this one about selling half of their film & TV music-publishing assets has alerted many more people.

@NinnesMBC - LOL.

If the selling price is $500 million, you can rest easy that DC is not part of it.
It's probably just whatever garbage they have lying around the ground.

Look at all these ridiculous commenters, just dying to hope for bad news for DC.
Gunn will be just fine.
