BATMAN: James Gunn Says New Dark Knight Casting Announcement Is Still "Miles And Miles Away"

We found out who will lead James Gunn's Superman: Legacy as the Man of Steel and Lois Lane earlier today, but it sounds like we're going to be waiting quite a while for new Batman casting...

Earlier today, we got official word that David Corenswet will play Clark Kent/the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy, but there are still plenty of supporting parts to cast (including Lex Luthor and members of the Authority), and it sounds like it's going to be quite a while before James Gunn can turn his attention to Batman.

Though The Flash director Andy Muschietti recently signed on to helm Batman: The Brave and the Bold, the project has yet to assign a screenwriter (that we know of), which means any casting announcements are likely still way down the road.

Gunn was asked when we can expect to find out who will be donning the cape and cowl as the DCU's Dark Knight on his Intagram post about the Superman news, and gave the following response.

The closest we've come to any kind of casting "rumor" was a bit of internet scuttlebutt about Jensen Ackles possibly being considered for the role, but The Boys and Supernatural actor made it clear that no conversations have taken place during a recent fan event - although he did admit to being very interested in playing Batman in live-action after previously voicing the iconic hero in The Long Halloween animated features.

"Look, right now nobody's talking about anything. There's a strike going on in the entertainment industry, and until that gets solved, nobody is having conversations about anything. Would I entertain the idea of playing my favorite superhero of all time? Nah, I'm good (laughs)...sounds like a lot of work. I would love it. Sign me up."

Along with a new take on the Caped Crusader, The Brave and the Bold will introduce a very different Robin in the form of Damian Wayne, a "murderous tween raised by assassins who also happens to be the son Batman never knew he had."

Doubt we get this before reeves finishes most of his work

@ShimmyShimmyYA - I hope you are right. Though I wouldn't mind Batman appearing before Brave and the Bold to establish he has been in this universe.

You know if Alexander is cast as Lex, Bill Skarsgard might be a good pick for Batman or at least one of his villains

@dracula - Swamp Thing is the only hero i could see Bill as, and even then it feels like there’s better choices for that character (like adam driver, if he isn’t doing F4). Alex would be a great Batman though

@tmp3 - alex seems a bit too old for Batman at this point

The guy is only a few years away from 50

More excited to see what Gunn and Co. Do with Damian rather than Bruce.

Assuming this movie happens (still feels like a bad idea), i feel like Gosling makes the most sense for Bruce. Excellent at brooding with a comedic edge, which is pretty much the tone that Morrison’s run on the character captured. He’s also gonna be WB’s golden boy soon once Barbie opens big

@tmp3

Gosling was the first choice for Joker in Suicide Squad. 😫

I was so hyped for that flick coming off of Fury. Ayer has never recovered.
