Fox's Gotham is NOT connected to the Warner Brothers DC Cinematic Universe

Chairman of Entertainment at FOX Kevin Reilly revealed that this series would indeed function as an origin story for Batman but is NOT connected to the Movies

While Arrow is still up in the air as to whether or not it will be connected to the WB/DC Cinematic Universe.. Fox Chairman Kevin Reilly confirmed that the show "Gotham" will serve as a separate entity to the movies

In an article on IGN, Kevin Reilly is quoted as saying:

"We own all the rights. That's what we're licencing," he said. "They brought us the entire franchise for a very healthy licence fee. We're not negotiating this piece meal. We have all of the underlying Batman rights for the entire franchise for this series."

Kevin continues "That's what I like about this, it's not some sort of adjunct companion series. This is the Batman franchise, just backing it up. I think that gives it a real focus as to what the show is about and what stories we're telling."

So there will be no connection to the MOS2 Sequel or JL Movie, nor will it connect to any future solo Batman films.

Warner Brothers manages the entire franchise and its one of their top global franchises of all," Reilly said. "So there will be an awareness of both and we'll have to coordinate when we're in the market place, but the productions are not piggy-backing off one another.

For me personally, this puts my mind at ease. Although do we REALLY need another Smallville? This is what this whole show seems to be. They are apparently going for a "Gritty, Nolan-esque" show, which seems to be all the rage these days.

What are your thoughts? Are you happy there will be no connection? Does this signal hope that perhaps Arrow & Flash will be connected to the Movie Universe?

Arrow and The Flash better be connected to the DCCU. Or else DC is truly waisting potential.

I read that earlier too. Don't know what to think about it. Frankly I think they missed out on a golden opportunity to tie it all in... On the other hand a lot of people have been clamping for a serious Batman live action show for ages, so I for one, will still watch and judge it on its own merit. Fox has some quality programming for the most part and when something is popular, they back it so...

The fact that Fox immediately indicates that "Gotham" will have no connection, yet Arrow (in it's 2nd season) still hasn't said either way..

I like the odds that Arrow & Flash will be part of the Movie Universe. I'm also glad Arrow/Flash will have no connection to "Gotham" and either will the movies.

Fox handling this property makes me very nervous. On one hand, it could be great (Fringe/24) but on the other hand.. they could really crap the bed with this. I don't really want to sit through another Smallville (I was a fan, but the finale let me down).

I'm starting to get the feeling that there will not be a DCCU. They'll put out BvS, then bang out JL movies. And Batman movies because he's Batman. So I guess there's no need for connections to other characters.

WTF

There just going to keep making shows based off characters from the same universe.

I love Arrow & will love the Flash series.

They have Agents of SHIELD, now they want to make a Peggy Carter show.

CONSTANTINE TV = DC

Hour Man = DC

G.O.T.H.A.M. Series now?

This will be based on Batman & Jim Gordon but will be separate from the movies.

I thought that any television show couldn't use Batman.

why wouldn't you connect it?
bigdannymac
bigdannymac - 1/13/2014, 10:21 PM
@jamesbrando3 But it's not even a "Batman" show.. it's a Bruce Wayne show, with the ending "Putting on the Cape" ... which is exactly Smallville.

I WISH this was actually a Live Action Batman ALA Arrow. I suppose this screws any chance of Batman/Bruce Wayne showing up on Arrow.. unless Arrow connects to the movies

On a side note.. January 29th is my interview with Warner Brothers North American Promotions Department. The college friend I always talk about on here with scoops got me the interview.

I'm pretty excited/nervous. At 32, I'm not 100% certain I want to leave my career in Publishing to start at the bottom, but then again, this could be a great opportunity for my Wife and I.

@bluedude - I thought the same thing..

I think it was pitched as a Gordon show, where the first episode featured the murder of Bruce's parents.. but I think it evolved into something bigger when Fox paid a VERY large sum of money for the full TV rights to everything Batman

@bigdannymac ya man I don't know could be crap could be great
if it's not connected it feels less important like how I felt during TASM

@bluedude - I know how you feel!!! It really bugs me that New York gets attacked by Aliens and defended by The Avengers.. but then we go into Spider-Man like nothing happened.

I don't understand how the OSCORP building "almost" made it into The Avengers, but then they can't tie the movies together.

MORE ON "GOTHAM"

“The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12 years old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale),” he said. Also on tap are the Riddler, Catwoman, the Penguin. “We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge,” Reilly said. “It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality.” Reilly also confirmed that Gotham, originally bought with a series commitment, has a greenlit pilot

@bigdannymac ya me neither I mean you could always make TASM happen b4 avengers but that'd have to make some sort of reference in TASM 2 so idk

I'm actually kind of relieved. Just reading the latest news on the show has me worried. I'd bet my life that Bruce ends up fighting half or more than half of his rogues gallery before that final episode.

Good. I didn't want to have to watch 10 different DC shows just to understand who's supposed to be who in the movies.

And think of all the characters that will have to be done on the cheap for these shows, with TV-level actors... then think that the films would have to use the same version of those characters for their movies, because it's the same universe.

[frick]ing awful.
TheRationalNerd
TheRationalNerd - 1/13/2014, 11:46 PM
But then again just because it isn't connected doesn't mean that we'll have to accept this bad news. I mean do you all think they'll actually have a mature batman on a tv show? I dunno, but I mean who knows the origins could just be a great knowledge base for characters we'll see in future films. Who knows...maybe the actors they choose I'm the films will look slightly identically similar to these baddies on the TV show (wishful thinking) I know, but who knows.

He never really said that it's not connected. He merely stated how much liberty they got from the licensing fee they brokered.

They have all the licenses in house, will be able to use all Batman associated characters. Will only focus on Gordon.

Now when they decide to wrap up the series, it is up to FOX, not WB if they want to make it adjacent to the current DCCU.

This is where CW's Smallville ran into trouble in regards to introducing Batman. They don't have the control nor the license. CW may be a Time Warner company but it is run and operated as a different entity. WB, who owns the DC licenses have given FOX the full license. They must believe that FOX will do the show justice.

It's a matter of control. This thread is rather misleading.

I was interested before when it was just a Commissioner Gordon show, but now that it's a full Batman show I no longer care or support this.
The way I see it, just keep one damn universe. And leave Batman on the big screen.
