RidiculousFanBoyDemands Saw a Movie the Other Night, But Can't Talk About It

The other night, thanks to my lovely wife I was able to check out a film that has yet to be released. A very large, ambitious threequel, to a very popular franchise.

Now, I know what you are thinking. Just review the film! Tell us your thoughts! Is it better than it's contemporaries that were released earlier this summer? Come on, spoil it for us! Well, here's the thing. Before I saw this movie I had to sign, initial, sign, initial so much paperwork, endure a rather lengthy speech about not posting a single revealing thing regarding performances, technical, thematic and plot points until a certain date. I also had to turn in my cell phone, and they had to check my jacket, pockets and even had to take off my shoes to make sure I did not have any other recording devices. It was kind of like going through air port security. However, I am going to try and be as vague as possible, while giving my early thoughts on this very, very ambitious film. I'm going to do this in bullet format so I can avoid not getting into too much detail.

Now mind you I can not say ANYTHING about this film. Please don't ask me questions in the comment section because I will be unable to answer them. Again I know I could spoil everything and probably not get caught, but as a fellow fanboy you do not want me doing that. It would be a disservice to you, and completely disrespectful to my wife and the lovely people that allowed me to see an early screening. So here are my extremely vague thoughts on the film.

- First I will say A LOT happens, it definitely warrants repeat viewings.

- The film is long but it needs to be, and it flows better than its predecessor. You are not thinking about the run time while watching it. Surprisingly it doesn't really drag, which is something it's predecessor did from time to time.

- There are A LOT, I mean A LOT of BS spoilers making the rounds. I tried to go around last night to all the various sites (SHH, IMBD etc.) and see if anybody had it right. There are some sites that have a lot of the plot points right, but so far I have yet to read anyone get it 100% right.

- Avoid spoilers at all cost this week, there are some scenes that haven't been spoiled that are very surprising to say the least, and I didn't even see coming.

(By the way you don't realize how hard it is to not talk about this film in depth).

- Like I said the film is very ambitious, and the scale is quite grand. It's hard to classify it into a single genre.

- I think I can talk about this, as far as Oscar hopes. It has a VERY strong chance to get nominated, but it's chances of winning depend on the strength of its competition. If it does win, I think it will be a combination of this film, and the strength of the others as a whole trilogy. However, like I said, a nomination is definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

- Again, please avoid having the end spoiled. I know I already posted avoid spoilers, but trust me it is worth posting twice.

- It's a very cohesive narrative, and in my opinion a much more intriguing story than its predecessors. The best words to describe it are Grand and Ambitious. I know I've used that word a lot now, but truth be told it's the best word I can think of to describe it.

- The villain is completely articulate, very easy to understand, and in many ways is much more frightening than the villains that proceeded him.

- The film is quite brutal in some areas. If parents had a problem with the story and violence of the last one, I would recommend not taking your child to see this.

- The story will probably be debated by the television talking heads, but it is not preachy, nor does it shove any philosophical ideals down your throat. It requires you to think a little bit, and brings up some very interesting observations on society as a whole. However there will be some pundits who will look too deeply into the story because after all, it is election time here in the States.

- It's definitely a worthy predecessor, and not a weak link by any stretch of the imagination.

- Without getting into specifics, everyone brings their A game. Nobody phones in a performance.

- For those of you worrying, this is not like Spider-man 3, Godfather 3, X-Men The Last Stand, Alien 3. If anything the QUALITY is comparable to Return of The King. A lot of care went into this movie and it definitely shows in every frame. Nothing is wasted, and there is no filler. Some may argue a couple of scenes could be cut, but not many. Almost every scene is important to the narrative.

- There are more lighter moments in this film than it's predecessor. The humor isn't as cheesy or forced this time around. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a lighter film, but these scenes are definitely welcome and break up the tone beautifully.

- I must say the film is beautifully shot. If you can see it in IMAX do so!

- The trailers that have been released don't reveal anything about this movie. So don't worry about being too spoiled if you have been avoiding them.

- The last thing I will say is this. This film is the comic book movie equivalent of an epic poem.

It's been a lot of fun talking and debating these movies with everyone this past year or so. I was actually surprised by how emotional I was, not necessarily because of the story (I mean that did play a part in it) but just watching everything unfold from pre production to casting and story rumors. I remember watching set video's, arguing about costumes, quotes people who are involved in making it said and just speculating what would happen. When the credits rolled all those thoughts rushed through my mind, and I couldn't help but smile. This film was exactly what I wanted to see and then some. It definitely left me very satisfied, and if you are fan of this trilogy you will definitely get your money's worth from this movie.

One last thing, my wife says to tell everyone she loved it and intends on seeing it again with me.

Well, personally I want the movie spoiled and I really don't see what the big deal is. What I find exceptionally annoying is people who say "I've seen it but I won't tell you a word of it, even if you wanna know!" Why bother?

I appreciate it Ror. Sorry for it being in the news section, I meant to move put in review. I spent probably the better part of last night figuring out what to say without saying anything (if that makes sense). If you guys keep it off main, I'm totally cool with that. Trust me, I know how sensitive WB is about this movie. If you guys have to delete it, I have no hard feelings towards the site.

Just to let everyone know I wanted to say SO much more about this film, and the original draft I wrote had close to 50 bullet points. However, I knew that would be too long and bloated to read, so I chopped it down significantly. I didn't want to say too much because they were very, VERY, VERY serious about not revealing anything.

@BizzaroNumber1

I was told not to compare it to any film until it comes out lol. I know that sounds completely dumb. I can say it is a completely different movie (but everyone with a brain knows that).

I don't mean to come off as a dick when I say I can't reveal anything, but out of respect for the amazing people who made this happen for me I can't reveal anything.

I know I compared it to Return of the King, but that had more to do with quality, and I know I mentioned other threequels, but I can't compare and contrast it to the other films that have been released, because that constitutes as spoilerish information apparently.

Honestly guys, this site probably made the viewing more emotional than it should have. All the late nights debating plot points, plot speculation, costumes etc. made the experience much more satisfying. I think that alone makes me a little more bias than other reviewers will be.

BizzaroNumber1: I've been saying for who knows how long that there is no way ANYBODY can compare The Avengers to this film. If this one is anything at all similar in tone, feel and story to the others in the franchise, it would be like comparing apples to oranges.

Whichever one you prefer will depend entirely on personal preference and taste. The Avengers is, as I'm sure this film will be, at the absolute top of two completely different hills.

Yes antonio I am. Let's just say I married the right woman, who has better connected friends than I ever will have. She completely surprised me with this. I have never attended a screening like this, and trust me when I say this. It was VERY strict.

Anyway guys I posted something about the trailers. If you have been avoiding them, or think they have spoiled too much don't worry. They don't reveal a damn thing.

I saw it yesterday and I too wanted to write an article about it, but I cant without spoiling LOL!

I will just say this much, I read by mistake a few major spoilers and a very BIG one and it sounded "strange", but on the screen everything is what it should be, so dont read anything, just let it happen.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/15/2012, 7:39 AM
Also one last thing for future trolls, who want to be dicks and spoil the movie in the comment section. Please don't. Some fans have been waiting years to see this movie, and there are definitely things that can be spoiled that will ruin the experience a little bit. I know eventually someone will, so my best advice for people who don't want to be spoiled avoid reading the comment sections of articles. I had TDK ruined for me that way, and I would hate to see anyone have this movie ruined because some immature jackass wants to spoil the movie.

@Tajin88

Is completely right, and stated it beautifully. It's one thing to read a spoiler and be like WTF. But it's another thing completely to see it on the big screen. I do look forward discussing this movie with everyone on Friday. Trust me, there will be A LOT to talk about.

RidiculousFanBoyDemands
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/15/2012, 7:47 AM
@antonio

Definitely loud applause, but no standing ovation. It was a very professional crowd, but there was definitely a buzz in the air afterword. We went out for drinks with a few people who saw it, and they said that coming out of the theater they said it felt very electric and everyone they had spoken to was very positive about it. I only talked to maybe six people in the auditorium (which was maybe 1/3 to 1/2 full. To be honest there was a lot to digest, so it was hard to talk about after. This wasn't a typical comic book movie loving crowd, it was too be honest a bit artsy fartsy for my taste. But again, I didn't hear a single bad thing about it.

Without saying too much, it definitely doesn't disappoint, and I understand why the film is under such an embargo. I can't go into detail and really compare it like I want to, but trust me. We will be having in depth convos about it next week on this site.

What I found to be interesting is how for TDK I read MANY spoilers by accident that trolls posted and thought "WTF? This sounds weird....fake Batmen?" But when I saw the film, everything was perfect..

NOW IM AVOIDING TDKR SPOILERS AT ALL COSTS
Im watching it on Saturday on the largest IMAX screen in my state:)

I was honestly drained man. I wanted to stand up and cheer and yell but once the credits rolled I was hit with so much emotion because I have been waiting a long time for this film. I just thought back to this site, Batman Begins, following the filming of TDK, and TDKR, and realizing it was the culmination of 7 years of following this franchise, and the beauty of it all was that, in my opinion, I wasn't let down. That is what struck me most of all. I personally wasn't let down.
