Penguin, the HBO Max spin-off focusing on Colin Farrell's take on classic DC Comics villain Oswald Cobblepot, will reportedly take place very soon after the events of Matt Reeves' The Batman, establishing "Oz" as Gotham City's big bad ahead of the upcoming sequel.
When the series was first announced, we were told that an appearance from Batman himself was unlikely, but it seems plans have now changed.
According to Jeff Sneider on the Hot Mic podcast, Robert Pattinson will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the show. We don't imagine it'll be a substantial part (in fact, we reckon he may only show up in a single episode), but, if accurate, this is a very smart move.
A Penguin-focused story could work without the Bat, but it only makes sense that the Caped Crusader would drop in at least once to keep an eye on Oz and set up their dynamic for the recently announced The Batman Part II.
The Penguin (tentative title) will also star Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Deirdre O'Connell. Millioti is believed to be playing Sofia Falcone, but we still have no details on the other roles.
The show will consists of 8 episodes. No premiere date has been set, but The Batman sequel is scheduled for release on October 3, 2025.
