Angela Bassett Didn't Win The Oscar For WAKANDA FOREVER, But EEAAO Practically Swept The Board

She was one of the favorites to walk away with the statue, but Angela Basset did not win Best Supporting Actress for her powerful performance as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever during last night's Academy Awards ceremony.

Instead, Jamie Lee Curtis picked up the award for her turn in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and it must be said, Bassett didn't look particularly happy about it!

Disappointing, for sure, as this would have marked the first time any MCU actor had won an Oscar. However, it was still a very big night for the sci-fi genre.

Ke Huy Quan also won Best Supporting Actor for EEAAO, and by the time the show had come to an end over three hours later, the delightfully strange indie sci-fi drama had racked up seven of the major gongs, including Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh), Best Director (Daniels), Best Original Screenplay (Daniels), Best Editing (Paul Rogers), and the big one, Best Picture.

As expected, Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for his performance in The Whale, and Guillermo del Toro's stunning adaptation of Pinocchio won Best Animated Feature.

The Banshees of Inisherin, Tár, The Fabelmans, Elvis, and Triangle of Sadness walked away with zero Oscars between them, despite most of them being heavily touted to pick up many of the top trophies.

Somewhat surprisingly, Germany's harrowing war film All Quiet on the Western Front won four Oscars (of nine nominations), for international feature, cinematography (James Friend), original score (Volker Bertelmann) and production design (Christian M. Goldbeck, Ernestine Hipper).

@marvel72 - Dude Western Front was awesome. The opening of that movie hit so hard. And the combat scenes were all brutal as hell.

@CorndogBurglar - How the young lads were all excited about going to war, then five minutes in the trench wanting to go home.

That brutal ending as well.

@marvel72 - Yeah. But I mean when they are collecting all the dead bodies from the Battlefield and how it shows the process of them taking all the boots and uniforms, washing them, stitching up the bullet holes, and then folding them up and handing them to next soldier in line. For some reason that hit me.

She was either very stunned, hurt or pissed.

No clapping when JLC won.
No clapping when JLC left the stage.

@IronGenesis - I agree. But still, regardless of which of those things it was she should still show a little class.

I still need to see The Whale, EEAAO, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Tar.

Elvis was pretty good and Butler did great in the role. Looking forward to him, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken being added to Dune 2.
