BLACK PANTHER 2 Officially Announced With Ryan Coogler Returning To Direct; Set For 2022 Release Date

While it's still too early for a title or villain reveal, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler have officially announced the release date for Black Panther II!

By RohanPatel - Aug 24, 2019 11:08 AM EST
After bringing the fireworks last night, Marvel Studios was considerably more subdued during the film portion of their D23 presentation today, opting to only take the time to share details about three of their upcoming Phase 4 films.

To open, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took the stage and brought out director Ryan Coogler to officially announce Black Panther II and while Coogler wasn't quite ready to reveal the full title or the film's villain, he did formally announce that the eagerly awaited sequel will open in theaters on May 6, 2022.

No cast details were revealed, but Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright are both expected to return following their adventures with Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

You know exactly why they’re keeping the villain under wraps.

Save Namor for a third film, have the consequences of their combat being T'Challa either abandoning being a hero to be a king or abandoning being a king to be the hero.

Second film should have his 'No More' moment, have Wakanda be turned against him via a manipulative villain like Zenzi. A character who has been motivated via the actions of Killmonger or the recklessness of T'Challa as a ruler to make the Wakandan's choose a new leader or banish T'Challa.

Would be easy to have a villain lay the blame for the destruction caused to Wakanda during Infinity War or the exhaustive repairs Wakanda would have to provide the rest of the world after Infinity War/Endgame on T'Challa who promised to help the rest of the world.

In essence you need a villain who opposes the decision that T'Challa made at the end of the last film, to expose Wakanda to the world.

If Marvel doesn't return to the stage before this presentation is over, then there Disney+ stuff was way more revealing/exiting than what they announced here today. We already knew Black Panther 2 was happening, just getting a release date and some extra info on Widow and Eternals is not a very strong presentation. I know they need to sell Disney+ and I'm exited as hell for those shows, but feature film should always be there main focus. Give us something new to chew on dammit. You still have two untitled Marvel movies plannend for February 2022 and July 2022, why only reveal one of your 2022 movies? Give us the other two as well.

Meh. Didn't like the first one all that much which was disappointing because i was more excited for it than Infinity War. Hopefully we get more fun action adventure and less woke dribble.

Finally. The first is one of the greatest cbms of all time and I'm sure Coogler will have a bigger playground this time. BP 2 is gonna be special.

Marvel are so unfair that even with all the exciting and next level stuff they have planned for the next phase, they have a sequel to a damn Best Picture nominee sitting in the chamber

Why did people think they were gonna give you all this new shit? They said they werent gonna do that, they werent gonna go 5 years into the slate like before.

They are gonna save that shit for like next years comic con or year after. Between comic con and D23 I think they dropped alot of stuff. Dont be greedy.

2022 is a while from now. But hopefully the long development results in a masterpiece.

The first film was beautiful up until the last third. It was still a good movie.

I hope the plot/writing/cgi is more coherent and compelling, this time but hell, it's 2022. World could end by then 😆😉🤷‍♂️
