BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Becomes The 7th Movie Of 2022 To Cross $300M At The U.S. Box Office

Though there was never really any doubt that it would reach this milestone, Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has now officially crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office.

As we head into Thanksgiving weekend, Marvel Studios' final Phase 4 theatrical release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has officially passed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office.

Though this shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone who's been keeping track of its BO performance, Ryan Coogler's powerful sequel is only the seventh movie of 2022 to reach this milestone after Top Gun: Maverick, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Jurassic World: Dominion, Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Batman and Thor: Love and Thunder.

While some believed Wakanda Forever's lengthy run-time could ultimately hinder positive WOM and repeat-viewings, it doesn't appear to be an issue as the film approaches its third weekend on general release - though it is also worth noting that it hasn't really had to deal with much in the way of competition (it saw off Black Adam with ease, and wasn't really troubled by Disney's animated Strange World movie).

As Wakanda Forever approaches $600 million worldwide, fans are left to wonder if it can hope to match its predecessor's mighty $1 billion+ global haul. As things stand, analysts seem to believe somewhere around $800M - $850M is a more realistic outcome, but nobody expected the first movie to climb as high as it did, either.

Have you been to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever yet? If so, be sure to let us know what you thought of the movie in the comments section (you can check out our review here).

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

While I was disappointed with this movie I will admit it was way better than Eternals, Captain Marvel, Thor 3/4 and Ironman 2 to name a few.

It has made $552,166,978 worldwide so far.

It's going to be hard pressed to hit that $800 million mark.

@TyrantBossMedia - No haven't you heard this is guaranteed to hit a billion according to certain users on this site.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 11/23/2022, 2:26 PM
@marvel72 - I heard that. They tend to put emotion over logic.
If it doesn’t I find that another opportunity to say I told you so. 😉

@TyrantBossMedia - 😂 You're both wrong. Under a bill, over 800 mill.

@EskimoJ - Well that's you but others were saying a Billion dollars before it even came out.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 11/23/2022, 3:46 PM
@EskimoJ - Well currently it only made $7 million on 11/21.

It's only in the theaters for 45 days.

It's been in the theaters for 11 days as of 11/21/

That gives it 34 days left. If it makes 7 million every days and does not decline at all that means it will earn $238 million more domestic.

Currently it is at $294 Million + $238 million then you have $532 million

$552 Million worldwide is only $258 million above the $294 million domestic.
So worldwide it is making 13% less than the domestic numbers.

Applying that to the $238 million domestic (if it keeps earning 7 million every day) then you have 207 million worldwide. $238 + $207 = $445 million

$552 million + $445 million = $997 million.

AGAIN that is projecting that it will continue to earn $7 million every day without ANY decline.
That's not going to happen.

So Black Panther will be lucky to hit $850 million. If it surpasses that I will be pleasantly surprised.

And with a $250 million production budget it has to clear $750 million at least to start earning a profit.
That's not much of a profit at $850 million.

@TyrantBossMedia - They don't report overseas numbers til the weekend. Should well be near or over $650m this weekend.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 11/23/2022, 7:19 PM
@TheShellyMan - Yet it may not. If it's only making $7 per day as of 11/21 and globally it is only earning 85% of that amount then It should be making about $5.95 million per day overseas.

So that looks like close to 18 million in three days time. So let's raise it to $15 million per day for the holiday weekend. 85% of that globally is $12.75 million per day. So about $37 million + 15 domestic. That puts it about about $52 million.

52 + the current gross with is 552 million and you are looking at 604 million.
And that is being very generous and doubling it's daily take.

If there is massive surge two weeks into its release it could hit $650 million by Monday, but the drop off after that will be precipitous.

I stand by my $800 - $850 number if it's lucky.

@TyrantBossMedia - is it confirmed the movie has only a 45-day theatrical window? I would be surprised if Disney cut it off during holiday season.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 11/23/2022, 8:28 PM
@2050 - 45 day release is usually the standard business model. However, Disney is not going to release it onto Disney+ on 12/22 like they normally would because they may keep it a bit longer over Christmas. However they will absolutely want that DVD release around Christmas to make the sweet coin.

So they most likely will not have it in the theaters and selling it on DVD as well.

@TyrantBossMedia - Over here I see somewhere between $850-$900M.

@TyrantBossMedia - it’s not going to be in the theaters for only 45 days. Lol
JoJo1982
JoJo1982 - 11/24/2022, 12:57 PM
@TyrantBossMedia - Also it’s not official for when it will hit Disney+ but the earliest is after Xmas.

Strange 2 didn’t hit streaming til 47 days later and Thor 4 was 60 something days later.

So for the next 3 months the only big films will be Avatar 2 and Wakanda Forever

Don’t be so petulant.

We got thanksgiving weekend and still a couple weeks till avatar. It could potentially get to 1 billion

It doesn't have competition till Avatar and even then during the holidays plus Camerons movie which is even longer is the main competition for a couple months.

I could forsee the only thing potentially happening is some suprise indy movie dropping as January is usually quite dry, and then valentines is when things may start to really change.
