BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Passes $600 Million Worldwide After Dominating Thanksgiving Holiday

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has reached another impressive box office milestone, grossing over $600 million worldwide following a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday for the critically acclaimed sequel...

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ruled the box office this Thanksgiving, and just passed $600 million worldwide. Now, it's the seventh-biggest movie of 2022, though we expect it to eventually surpass Thor: Love and Thunder's $760 million and possibly gross over $1 billion globally.

The Black Panther sequel has so far made over $321 million in North America and $279 million internationally, with its biggest non-U.S. market being the UK ($27 million).

With a mighty $600 million haul, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has already beaten many of its predecessors, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. It should pass the likes of Iron Man 2 and Ant-Man and The Wasp in the coming days.

We've already heard that Disney plans to push back Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's streaming debut to maximise box office revenue, and with little in the way of competition until Avatar: The Way of Water arrives, that's a smart decision.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever exceeded expectations over Thanksgiving, and could finish with as much as $67 million over the holidays.

The Rock won't be happy with us pointing this out, but Black Adam has already slipped out of the Top 10 and looks set to end its run with around $370 million worldwide, beating Shazam! by a mere few million dollars (not good news when it cost twice as much to produce). Of course, it recently landed an early Digital release after a pirated Korean copy surfaced online.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ranks among Marvel Studios' best movies, and is an emotional, uplifting, tour de force of a blockbuster," we said in our review of the movie earlier this month. "Letitia Wright delivers a powerhouse performance, while Angela Bassett’s majestic work will leave you reeling."

What did you guys watch over Thanksgiving?

@Urubrodi - You forgot to say “In my opinion…”

@Urubrodi - agreed. It’s much more on track as a Marvel movie than some of the recent rubbish but it’s at best average in my opinion. And they killed off the Queen who was easily the strongest character portrayal. Namor was ok but would have been so much better if they hadn’t chosen to alter him for no good reason. The action scenes were mostly very good I thought but the movie ad a whole did drag on a bit in a few places.

@LiteralSense - You don't need to say "In my opinion" for something to still be an opinion.....

@CorndogBurglar @Urubrodi - Yeah. Absolutely.
Too bad that some horrible users of CBM have never learnt the meaning of the word: opinion. Eg, all the lowlifes login to these CBM joke accounts:

@AmazingFILMporg , @dragon316 , @BritishMonkey and @TheDoctor1225

Those jokes have been known to belittle other users with their cowardly nasty snobbish comments, all absolute real revolting bullies that they all are as countless users have frequently wrote about their miserable inhumane behaviour, attacking people just for having opinions. They are truly very, very pathetic. And guilty.

@ghostrider99 - I've definitely been attacked unprovoked here. More times than I can count, actually. I only ever give my opinions, and if those opinions are saying I don't like something, then it's always someone that DOES like that thing that comes flying in with the insults out of no where. It almost always goes down like that. It's rare that you see someone say, "This movie sucks and anyone that likes it is an idiot", or some other insult.

But say you don't like certain things about the MCU or Phase 4 or Zach Snyder's DCU enough times and you will inevitably get attacked eventually.

Having said that, I don't recall any of the people you mentioned ever doing that to me. Except maybe Dragon, but that guy barely speaks English so I'm not even positive he ever means the things he says to come off the way they do. And, he's also calmed down quite a bit for a long while now.

But as for the others, I've definitely had debates with them and I don't really consider any of those debates to have been overtly hostile.

@CorndogBurglar - I have to agree with @LiteralSense

It's common for naysayers to speak as tho their opinion is universal. It's not a huge deal or anything but I do think it's a valid statement.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 11/28/2022, 10:43 PM
@Variant - But thats the thing, it isn't just naysayers. It's anyone. Because it's how English works. An opinion is something that can't be proven. People say "X movie is a great film" all the time. It doesn't make them right either. And they don't say "in my opinion" a lot of the time.

I think its more along the lines that people are too thin skinned and somehow feel attacked when someone says they don't like something that they do like.

Unless we're talking about numbers, it's all opinions with movies.

@CorndogBurglar - It's not the first time I've been tagged in weird posts like that. Kinda funny really like what did I do? Lol
Only person I've ever really heckled is Wilding's articles but everyone does that.

People fighting over differing opinions over films is dumb. Like so what if you didn't like Eternals or like BvS more over Civil War. Who cares? You're not going to get an award for liking or disliking something. It's silly.

@CorndogBurglar - You have a good point for general context. But here, the original commenter is effectively trying to disagree with the notion that WF is "among one of Marvel Studios' best movies".

He's pitting his opinion vs another to create a right vs wrong argument. In fact, it's actually easier to argue the original quote is closer to the truth than not. Just a poor comment in general.
Variant

@ghostrider99 - And too bad people don't know the difference between an opinion and a shit post. It's one thing to have an opinion it's another to post some excessively dramatic and contrarian nonsense.

Opinions can go both ways amicably. So it's not at all about "opinions". Most people whining about freedom to opine are actually just wanting to troll and talk shit freely without opposition. That's the real problem.

The most horrible users here are those that constantly complain. Not those that have valid criticisms. Again, there's a difference.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 11/30/2022, 3:43 PM
@Variant - This is kind of a silly thing to keep going back and forth about lol.

An opinion is something that is not a fact. Period. And the way the English language works is that you can state an opinion without saying "in my opinion", or "I think", or "I believe" in the same sentence. Because everyone should be able to tell the difference between an opinion or fact. These things are taught to children in like 1st or 2nd grade.

And the original statement of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ranks among Marvel Studios' best movies" is no closer to a fact than someone saying it's a bad movie. Because they are both subjective opinions. And you can say that the movie has a high audience and critic score and has made a lot of money. But all that proves is that a lot of people saw it and liked it. It doesn't make their opinion any more true than someone that didn't like it. It doesn't make it any more of a fact. It just means a lot of people agree it was good.

To expect someone to put "in my opinion" any time they state an opinion is ridiculous. Of course it's his opinion. It doesn't matter how it's being used or what it's in response to. It's an opinion, and if people can't tell the difference then that is on them, not the person that said it.

@CorndogBurglar - It is silly. But here we are.

Again, I think you have sound logic in a general sense. And in a literal sense. Art as a whole is subjective by nature. BUT...there is something to be said about measuring or gauging an art's quality.

Let's use the juxtaposition of The Departed and Sharknado. One could claim rather easily and without opposition that one is more artfully executed than the other. If art is purely subjective, then how is that?

Certainly we can talk about threads of objectivity woven into art. Or maybe how there's an aspect of the human condition that ubiquitously aligns with certain attributes of art--film, in this case.

And to bring it full circle, back to the original debate. The original comment is still discrepant. They attempted to negate a statement as being true. Which can't be done objectively. So really, the discrepancy isn't that he should've added that it was just his opinion. But the fact he tried positioning his opinion as though the quoted statement was wrong.

@Variant - "Let's use the juxtaposition of The Departed and Sharknado. One could claim rather easily and without opposition that one is more artfully executed than the other. If art is purely subjective, then how is that?"

Because art is in the eye of the beholder. It doesn't matter if 100% of people on the planet consider one more "artful" than the other. It's still just their opinions and not a fact. The amount of people that agree on something does not negate the fact that it's still just their opinions.

"And to bring it full circle, back to the original debate. The original comment is still discrepant. They attempted to negate a statement as being true. Which can't be done objectively. The original quote said this: "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ranks among Marvel Studios' best movies"."

That in itself is an opinion.

The response was this: "Good movie, but nah"

He outright said it was a good movie. So there's no malice or spite or trolling in his comment. (Not that you said there was. I'm just pointing that out to say that this isn't just someone complaining for no reason. He actually did like the movie. In fact, the third person's comment that said "you forgot to say "in my opinion" is the comment that should be treated as trollish or complaining. Because that person didnt call out the original quote, which was also an opinion that didnt say "in my opinion". Likely because he agreed with that quote, but didnt like the other opinion. Thats the comment that is petty here. They tried calling out the person that said something they didnt agree with, while leaving the quote he did agree with alone, even though it was "guilty" of the same thing.)

And then he said "but nah". That's no different then him saying he doesn't agree with the previous quote. Or he could have even said "no it isn't". The original quote was written like a fact. His response was also written like a fact. But they are both undoubtedly and factually opinions. Anyone reading this should be able to see that. It's grammatically correct that you don't need to say "in my opinion" when stating an opinion. That's it. It's that simple. There are no rules to back up your argument other than what? Conversational etiquette, I suppose?
