BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Star Tenoch Huerta On Perceived Romantic Chemistry Between Namor & Shuri

Some seem to feel Namor and Shuri shared a romantic connection in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but star Tenoch Huerta doesn't quite see it that way...

Namor and Shuri clearly shared a connection in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but was it romantic in nature? Some fans seem to believe so, and have been "shipping" the characters online since the movie's release, but star Tenoch Huerta doesn't really see it that way.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, major spoilers ahead.

Though they ultimately become foes when the Talokan king kills Shuri's mother, Ramonda, Namor and the new Black Panther do have a couple of intimate scenes together earlier in the sequel. Kukulkán recounts his origin in the hope of forging an alliance with Shuri and the Wakandans, and the pair share common ground as "broken people" doing everything they can to protect their respective civilizations.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Huerta was asked if there might have been a spark between Namor and Shuri before everything fell apart in the final act.

"I don’t feel it was a romantic touch [between them]. I think it was more a human, intimate touch. I mean in the history of their kingdoms, the history of their people, they share the same root, and the threat comes from the same place for both of them, for the same reason. They both face threats from Western countries like the United States and France in the story, because of vibranium, natural resources. I think they connect in that aspect."

In the end, Shuri spares her enemy's life and they form an alliance - but it's strongly hinted that Namor will only honor the truce as long as the Panther and Wakanda are useful to Talakon.

What did you guys make of Namor and Shuri's connection? Did you get any romantic vibes from their scenes together? Be sure to let us know in the comments section (you can check out our review here).

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

They hung out for an afternoon while he showed her his culture which she appreciated, then he flooded her people and murdered her mom.

Hella romance.

@marvel72 - then she threatens him at spear point that they have to learn to trust each other, then just let's him go free, back to ethnic Atlantis. Just like when T'Challa let Zemo and Killmonger go free.... or something.

Cuz romance.

Wakanda Forever had such good writing. Like when they beat Namor by locking him in a flying sauna.... fish man no likey hot hot.

This is Namors thing

Interesting. I didnt see it that way at all. Namor is a womaniser in the comics but this take was drastically different and better. He was charming but for the most part he was being a dutiful king and deity of sorts to his people. The only connection I felt between them was the shared culture.

@Ojeet78 - Heaven forbid he be portrayed as a womanizer in a 2022 film. That would be sexist.

Big drop off in week two box office for Wakanda Forever (70%). Word of mouth must be getting out.

@Humperdoo - shhhh. The drop only matters when it's a movie they want to fail.
LiteralSense
LiteralSense - 11/24/2022, 11:45 AM
@Humperdoo - Actually it was 63% drop. Better than both DS2 & Thor4. Already passed Doctor Strange daily intake. Thanksgiving weekend looks to drop 25-35%.

@Origame - Weren’t you all about facts when it came to defending THR’s attack on Letitia Wright, but let this person give inaccurate numbers?

You are really showing how biased you are.
LiteralSense

@Humperdoo - Actually if we’re going weekly like you said. Week 1(Nov. 11-17) to Week 2(Nov. 18-24) would be a 54% drop NOT 70%.

AmazingFILMporg - 11/24/2022, 12:03 PM
@Humperdoo -

It was a 63% drop💁.

This weekend it's projected to drop less than 35%

The film is a success. Men like. Women lie. Numbers don't💪🔥

@LiteralSense - ...it's not bias. I had inaccurate information, and I see that now and apologized.

Since you made this about bias, I expect you to insist leititia apologize for spreading lies about that article.
LiteralSense
LiteralSense - 11/24/2022, 2:16 PM
@Origame - You should have done your research first, but you let your bias get in the way from the dislike you have for the movie.

What lies did she spread? They shouldn’t have put her in the same article as those who actually PHYSICALLY harm others. The article was not warranted whatsoever.
Origame
Origame - 11/24/2022, 3:44 PM
@LiteralSense - ...that it was a personal vendetta making her out to be as bad as the likes of those that do physically harm others. When she was a small footnote that was only brought up because, unquestionably, there was controversy surrounding her.

Was there controversy surrounding her? Because that's literally all they said.

And again, I apologized. By your logic of leititia, you should put that to rest or continuously bringing it up is also unwarranted.

I thought there was some tension, but there can be even if it’s never visited or realized.

First of all, as comic fan with mixed feelings about a lot of recent Marvel Movies, I think Wakanda Forever was a little too long. but otherwise pretty darn great - especially given all the challenges Coogler & crew faced: not just working around the death of their lead, but also creating a convincing Namor on screen, without repeating tropes from Aquaman. Some romantic tension would be perfectly in character for Namor, and help explain his actions (showing her his secret kingdom, giving her the bracelet). Critics complain about all the disparate characters & plot threads but I think this was one of the better written entries in the MCU in a long time.

People are always seeing sexual tension when there is none. Horny f#ckers!

It was definitely ambiguous, but also he gave her jewellery. And also, it's Namor.

If Namor talks to you, he wants to [frick] you. If Namor looks at you, he wants to [frick] you. If Namor hears about your very existence, he wants to [frick] you.

So he definitely wanted to [frick] her.

Cut them some slack. They wrote the movie (including this "romance" part) keeping their target audience in mind. All the teens from 8 - 12 years old call this romance anyway!

I never felt a hint of romance. Like at all

We had some intimate moments, but they were not romantic or sexual at all. They just talked about some very important things together and seem to speak honestly to each other but that doesn’t equal romance.
