Forest Whitaker Has A Pretty Great Idea for How Zuri Could Return In BLACK PANTHER 2

Forest Whitaker had a memorable role as T'Challa's mentor Zuri in Black Panther but the movie made it clear that he won't be back for the sequel. However, the actor has some ideas about how to change that.

One of Black Panther's most shocking moments came when Erik Killmonger murdered Zuri during his battle with T'Challa at Warrior Falls but considering the fact that he was partly responsible for the villain being left without a father, some could argue that he got his just desserts. Regardless, the character made an impact and many fans would love to see more of him in Black Panther's world.

Unfortunately, being stabbed through the chest is hard to come back from even in a place like Wakanda but Forest Whitaker still has some pretty interesting ideas about how he could return.

"I guess I would be like an Obi-Wan Kenobi, you know, who comes back, he talks from the ancestral plane to give advice to T’Challa," the actor suggested during a recent interview. "Chadwick’s amazing in the film. Ryan Coogler’s done such an amazing job, so proud to be in it." It's not a bad idea at all but considering the fact that T'Challa felt so betrayed by his father (and Zuri), it seems unlikely.

Stranger things have happened, though, and there are no doubt some interesting ways Zuri could be used in a sequel. However, it would be far more interesting seeing some new characters get the spotlight in the semi-confirmed sequel so we'll just have to wait and see how this one plays out.

He was very underwhelming for me, his character was possibly my least favorite part of an otherwise great movie.

He's already kind of like Obi-Wan anyway. Uncovered the dark truth about the hero's father and the hero let out a loud "NOOOOO!" when he was killed.

But who doesn't want more Zuri? I would hate to have his role stwipped ahwae

Total novice here:

Do all Wakandans go to the Ancestral Plane or just those that deserve too? I’ve only seen BP once and can’t remember why N’Jobu wasn’t there.

You should have bought the boy back with you Zuri🤷🏽‍♂️

@ChangAlang - I think only those of royal blood, but it's possible all of them go there. It's never actually explained what the Ancestral plane is in the film. It's possible T'Challa might not be able to see Zuri there because he's not T'Challa's ancestor.

@BlindWedjat - That’s what I was thinking as well regarding the royal bloodline. I wondered if I’d missed something in the movie.

Thank you😊

@ChangAlang - I think the best way to explain it would be that every Wakandan that dies goes there, but the herb and the ritual they do with it takes a person who is living there to commune with his or her ancestors.

The herb can be given to anyone (even though they reserve it for the Black Panther and king), and Nakia and Ramonda were desperate enough to take it to M'Baku. That whole ritual might not have been done because they just wanted him to overthrow Killmonger.

@BlindWedjat - Yeah that’s a great way to explain it😊

I imagine that is how Killmonger will appear in the sequel, as a spirit.

@newhire13 - I think Killmonger is not dead. He died while still under the influence of the heart shaped herb. As soon as they bury him, he should heal quickly and be revived.

I think that he should be a very sporadic presence. We never really saw him give T'Challa any good advice. But it wuld be great to see him in the astral plain.

I dont know I’m pretty sure it’s only the royal family that makes it to the ancestral plane, or maybe just whoever you are related to is who you see when you go there either way it wouldn’t make sense for T’challa to see him

Zuri was hit or miss for me in the film. I think I would've found his character more memorable if he was portrayed by a lesser-known actor than Whittaker. I feel that ultimately hurt the impact of his death, in my opinion.
