I received an e-mail in my inquiry about where I could buy the director's cut of the 1990 version of Captain America DVD/Bluray which was reported to be released today, July 19th. Here is the response from Cynthia Curnan of Curnan Pictures/CMPS, LLC.

Greetings

Shipping for all movies is suspended until August 13. Albert is traveling across the country to Montreal, Ca screening "Tales of an Ancient Empire" and "Captain America: Directors Cut" in festivals and conventions.

New orders will be pre-orders for August shipping

Details are below:

Albert Pyun announces a CAPTAIN AMERICA:Director’s Cut Region Free DVD as a bonus feature to his CAPTAIN AMERICA Commentary(DVD)and autograph. Also included is Pyun’sFilm, LEFT FOR DEAD: Inferno Version,(DVD). The extended director’s cut includes additional scenes, never seen before – approximately 13 minutes more footage). The film is transferred from telecined tapes, plus a 35mm work print. It was not transferred from the original negative and there is artifacting in the dark scenes, dust specks and visible splices. Only the new footage is true widescreen. However, the picture quality is far superior to Albert Pyun’s previous director’s cuts.

This offering is suitable only for CAP/PYUN fans wanting Albert’s extended directors cut with extended footage. If you are looking for the best picture, MGM is releasing the theatrical version on DVD, starting July 19.

The Blu-Ray version (Blu-Ray disk only in the DVD case set) of this offering has the remastered 5.1 score with new music by Tony Riparetti.

Three disk set DVD feature with commentary, DVD, Left for Dead.

Click on the link below to order and fill in the correct amount for your destination. Include your name and address and the one line personal message you want from Albert Pyun, or any instructions for your order.

I actually was looking forward to this one, but I can't even find the MGM Fox Home Video version anywhere. Best Buy and Wal-mart don't have it on their websites and I don't want to buy a cheap pirated copy. Anyone know where to pick up the MGM release?

@ CaptainLoser

the only place i've actually seen this thing on DVD is at comic conventions, and they're usually some kind of bootlegged version. and they always harp on it like its the only place you can find it. I don't even know if they ever made it on DVD.

What can I say?? I love awful, cheesy movies. I remember seeing a teaser for this movie when I was a kid and it didn't come out for years!! This one is right up there with Challenge of the Superheroes, Roger Corman's Fantastic Four and the Star Wars Holiday Special. I finally found something on the theatrical version-- it will be available to purchase on demand by unnamed online retailers on a DVD-R and this is for the official studio release... From what I can tell, the date from MGM has also been pushed back to August. I might just have to watch it on YouTube...
