CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD - New Details Emerge About Why Marvel Studios Delayed The Movie

Captain America: Brave New World was recently pushed back to 2025 and a new rumour claims to shed some light on why Marvel Studios decided to significantly delay Sam Wilson's highly anticipated return...

By JoshWilding - Nov 21, 2023 05:11 AM EST

Captain America: The First Avenger was a solid introduction for the MCU's Steve Rogers, but the Star Spangled Avenger's franchise didn't fully find its footing until The Winter Soldier. However, by the time Civil War rolled around, Cap's movies were every bit as monumental to the wider MCU as The Avengers

As a result, we're not exactly surprised to learn that Marvel Studios is looking to make Captain America: Brave New World as epic as possible.

With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes causing chaos in Hollywood, the decision was made to push Deadpool 3 to next July. As work on the next Captain America movie was believed to be largely finished, the expectation was that it might take back its original slot in May.

Instead, the movie was pushed back to 2025!

Now, we have some new insights into why that happened. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios decided that Brave New World's action scenes were neither big nor satisfying enough compared to the franchise's previous instalments.

There have already been rumblings about reshoots adding new set pieces, so we can believe this. Despite getting a taste of sci-fi with The Cloverfield Paradox, director Julius Onah is a newcomer to the action realm, though the same would have been said of the Russo Brothers when they were tapped to helm The Winter Soldier. Ultimately, it sounds like Brave New World just needs to up the ante.

It's still a little surprising to hear this in some ways, particularly as we're expecting Sam Wilson to square off with members of The Serpent Society and even Red Hulk when President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross transforms into his monstrous alter-ego.

We recently learned that, similar to both Sam and Steve's respective comic book counterparts, the Oval Office will likely have an active role in how Captain America protects his nation. Unfortunately for this Avenger, it won't be too different from how Steve was used as part of the USO during his earliest days wielding the shield.

"To put it simply, he’s been benched," a reliable scooper said of why we haven't seen Sam since The Falcon and The Winter Soldier"President Ross thinks Sam’s time as 'Captain America' is better suited for publicity, while Sam knows he’s meant to be in the field."

They go on to add, "And that is just the tip of the iceberg to their conflict..."

The movie stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins. Julius Onah directs from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though the filmmaker is believed to have also taken a pass at it.

Captain America: Brave New World arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Wait, they got the director of the Cloverfield paradox?

Does marvel studios just hate money now?

@Reginator - wait a minute...

Making decisions that cause chaos in the Fandom?

Focusing on the message instead of the money?

Marvel studios is the joker!

@Origame - unfortunately it's easy to see why if you check out his picture

They pick people based on certain characteristics. Done it plenty of times. No coincidence

@ChocolateMousse - I looked him up. Not sure what you mean. Is it because he's bald? I mean I guess Peyton Reed is bald too. And Joss Whedon was definitely follicly-challenged. Hmm.

I mean, it's not that he's black, right? Cause by my count, there's been 33 MCU films released thus far and...only 3 have been done by black directors?

If you could clarify what characteristics you mean, that would be helpful! :)

@Jrazz - I would suggest looking at all the people behind the camera and looking at the project see if there is a pattern.

@ChocolateMousse - It's exactly what happened with Black Widow, Eternals and The Marvels. Select a director based on certain characteristics, then have Marvel's own people direct the big scenes the director doesn't have the chops to pull off.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 11/21/2023, 9:57 AM
@ChocolateMousse - Outside of specificaly the director I'd bet the house that VAST majority of them behind the camero are white men outside of maybe the catering. Getting a black director and/or writer for a film with a black lead means they are more likely to get the lead character right one could argue, avoid tropes and stereotypes theoreticaly, or at least minimise backlash if still falling into those traps. 3 out of 33 is still under representation going by demographic mix in America I believe.

If the stuff turns out bad, critique it for being bad, plenty of bad stuff by white guys too so anything else should be irrelevant.

@TheFinestSmack - A studio working on these sort of projects, having a team to support a given director, all directors in fact, specificaly for helping optimise action scenes isn't a bad idea but they should oversee all directors not just some cos they oft get relatively new to film in charge (ie untested, doesn't mean they won't have the chops) which is a gamble they got lucky with in regard to the Russo's for instance.

DP3 is their only chance next year. Or maybe they move this to next year too.

@Reginator - speaking of message, imagine this:

Brave New World is a split story. One told in the present, the other told in the past.

I could see this being a wonderful tale featuring the politics of today's time via Captain Falcon, and the politics of yester-year via Isiah Bradley. Bonus points if we'd gotten Coogler to direct.

A fan can only dream...

In the end, it'll depend on the trailer of course but i'm just looking forward to Deadpool 3 and the 2 Avengers movies, eventhough i have 0 interest in Kang, for real, if it wasn't for mhu FoX-Men, i would've been done with Marvel Studios a long ass time ago.

If not for the Fox acquisition there wouldn't be a glimmer of hope for Marvel Studios, not with how things stand right now.

Oroboro, time is a circle, history will repeat itself and just like in the '90ies, the X-Men* will save Marvel's ass, heh.

*IF they are allowed to be called X-Men, that is. :3

Then bad-writing aside, no one will stop that train.
Shit, as a matter of fact, the overexposure of mutants will be unstoppable this time, in order to boost their products, they will add a mutant in every project, they will finally bust the kinda nut they've been holding back for +20 years, lol.

It's possible we will never see certain characters get the screentime they've been enjoying rn, then again...expecting Brie Larson to lead another movie was hopeless either way...

I don't care if it's delayed. Make it GREAT!

If we get the sappy angsty mush we got in whiny FalCap & the WS, that will kill the Captain America movie line.

I wish we could have some really great espionage MCU movie once again. FATWS from the most part was fine. but i hope MCU is done bringing mediocre films and tv shows. I want them to bring their game up once again just like what they did to Loki s2.

@Gabimaru -
What was so fine about FATWS? Glorifying terrorism? Mediocre fight scenes in abandoned warehouses? An Avenger struggling with money subplot? Giving everybody super soldier serum (made by some nerd in a basement) making Cap no longer unique? You gotta do better senator?

@NickScryer - It sucks because they actually had a few decent ideas, they were just executed poorly. Sam being scared/hesitant to take up the mantle. Bringing in Isaiah Bradley. Bringing in John Walker. There were some cool pieces in it, but the writing was absolutely atrocious.

To me this just screams they still haven't figured out it's the writing that is a problem in the MCU now. Doesn't matter how "epic" the action scenes are if there is no emotional weight behind them. MCU writers and Feige seem to lack the ability to get the audience invested in caring about the stories and characters now. For me personally, give me a great story and the all the action in the film could be a simple punch to the face or even something like trapping the bad guy without a fight.

Yeah, like they were going to admit that the writing was shit. Or that Sabra was too jewish and would upset muslims. Saying that they're making action more epic is a safe option.

Vigor - 11/21/2023, 8:11 AM
@NickScryer - yeah let's stop making stuff up until there's at least a hint or leak that it's true.

This came from a scooper. They have nothing to gain from painting a rosy picture. Negativity breeds clicks and engagement
mountainman
mountainman - 11/21/2023, 8:16 AM
@WarMonkey - The Cap trilogy has some of the deepest themes in the MCU:

1) The First Avenger: Never stop fighting, technology in powerful people’s hands can be misused, sacrifice for your friends or a cause

2) The Winter Soldier: Institutions can be corrupted, stopping crime before it happens is tyrannical, people deserve forgiveness

3) Civil War: Debate between government control vs autonomy of people doing good, it’s bad to determine guilt too early, people need to work together and sacrifice to achieve goals

While FatWS proposed a few interesting themes. The writing was so bad that it never realized them. That’s the fear with this movie is that it won’t have the subs chance that this franchise has been known for.
NickScryer
NickScryer - 11/21/2023, 8:20 AM
@Vigor - Sure, negativity and engagement really worked out for The Flash, Fant4stic, Justice League
