Don't make it Suck.

Don't make it Suck.

Please don't kill the Captain... again.

By FrizzBee - Dec 31, 2008 12:12 AM EST

This is my first post on my first fansite. Alot of firsts?... Well then why not make it about the First Avenger. There are alot of people throwing names out there for the Man with the Shield. Names like Cena, Eckhart, DiCaprio, Pitt... How about no, no, no, no. Look nobody wants this film to take the right route more than I do. Cap is the end all/be all character for me. He is at the pinnacle of human perfection, not the Freakshow that Tim Roth became in The Incredible Hulk (although I really dug that flick). Cap needs to be played by someone new, respectable, and someone who has the believable "leader-presence". On other comments pages (Shaman's to be exact) I said David Paetkau would look the part. If you don't know who he is, then check out the CBS show Flashpoint.

I just want the original storyline of the origin followed to the tee. Please. That is the one thing that I need. Let Cap have his day. He is, after all, the leader of the Avengers.

My point was the look bio, not necessarily the actor. The actor is not important to me, as long as he's believable. I just want it to be true to the origin, and awe inspiring. Is that too much to ask.

You should check out my stories, I got a Captain America story that you all might like. Frizzbee, I know you've read it already. You never really told me what you thought though, does it meet your approval?

Personally I believe there is nothing to worry about with the cap movie other than people's personal choice for who will play him. Remember, MARVEL has the reins, and if they could pull of Ironman, then you can be sure they will do Cap justice. I say get Ed Brubaker to co-write it. I wont say my choice for the role as its been done to death.

im not a huge fan of caps so im not too worried either way..i mean obviously i want to see a good movie, specially because it has to set up the avengers. ive just always thought cap was ..well..a bit of a tool!

but not in the ultimates and he was cool in civil war too so i should prob see if i can track down some more stories and maybe reverse my tool statement!

Not my fav hero, but i have a lot of respect for him. Ironman is a deuche and Spidey a cry baby next to this guy. I haven't the faintest as to who should play him, but i hope at least half of it is in WW2. I know i don't want it all WW2 and then the freeze thing happen right before the credits, especially if Avengers is coming out that same year. Why waste valuable Avenger minutes showing Cap thaw out. instead at the end, he thaws out to see Nick Fury and Tony Stark, maybe others, Nick Fury Tells him his country needs him once more, yatta yatta, Angers Initiative, role credits. Red Skull for villain btw. (Masterfully played by Jeremy Irons maybe, or too old:( )
BubbaDude
BubbaDude - 1/5/2009, 9:36 AM
Jeremy Irons would be a good Skull, but he'd need to do a German accent. Personally, I'd like to see the first 3 Cap flics set in WW II(1: origin with Red Skull, 2: Invaders with Baron Blood, 3: Final days of the war, bunker fight with the skull and the Zemo rocket thing). However, I know that won't happen, they could show most of that stuff in flashbacks...

Also, Cap should be played by a little known or unknown actor. That way, people's notions of the actor will not prejudice their view of the movie, and Marvel will be able to more easily fit the actor to the role, and not the other way around. The movie will draw people, they don't need to rely on a 'name' actor to draw an audience.

Also, let me say that this is the ONE movie I've been waiting years for. The one that was put out around 1990 disgusted me soooo much, but recent superhero movies have raised the bar, and my hopes, so....DO NOT SCREW THIS UP MARVEL!!

You guys don't think Josh Dumal would be a good Capt? He's got that milatary look. I think JENSEN ACKLES would suck!

what about George Eads that guy from csi he has a clean cut and he wouldnt have to buff up to much.
ottoevans
ottoevans - 1/13/2009, 10:06 AM
what is up with these people. Why are always trying to pick guys from teen boyish shows like the OC or Supernatural? What the hell!

How about we cast a man not a little kid.

Scott Speedman or Matthew Fox would be fine with me. Josh Dumal would be fine also.
Aiiwolf
Aiiwolf - 1/14/2009, 2:09 PM
Scott Speedman or Matthew Fox would be fine with me. Josh Duhamel** are all getting too OLD. Especially, if they smoke and get wrinkles and dont look their age...but twice it. Josh Duhamel is 36...and he looks the part and is aging well. But if they keep post-poning this movie. By the time they chose him hell look like shit.

For example Robert Downy Jr. is OLD. But he is aging well...even with all the drugs in his body and toxins or whatever...and the stunts hes done in his past...I'm surprised he looked the way he did in Iron man. He suited the part, and hes aging well. But Downy jr. has been around for along time....Sad that this generation remembers him as Iron man...and not for like "Chaplin, Short Cuts, The Singing Detective, or good night and good luck"...or even the zodiac.

If their going to choose a Captain America they need to choose a Good actor. But someone in their "late 20's and early 30s."

Aiiwolf
Aiiwolf - 1/14/2009, 2:28 PM
By the way, Duhamel is not a good actor. lol Look at his show Las Vegas [yeahhh lol]...He has only "10" works in his whole life. You say that you dont want a little kid...but that little kid "might" save this movie. He's a C-listed actor...if not D. lol

There was a reason a rumor that Leonardo Dicaprio would be Captain America....I cant see him as Captain America. but I can see him as "Bucky."

Tyler Hoechlin is 21-22...but hes just eh.
BubbaDude
BubbaDude - 1/15/2009, 9:32 AM
Yes, Dicaprio looks like Bucky.

Cap should be played by an early 20's type, because Steve Rogers was in his early 20's when he enlisted...
according to wikipedia, Cap was born on July 4th(of course) 1917. So, in 1940 or 41 when he enlisted he would be 23 or 24.

I still think they should pick an unknown for the part.

Breuskier - 1/15/2009, 8:47 PM
ok... Jeramy irons would do a great red skull... but as far as cap goes, said before that john cena would be a good phusical modal to go off, but thats about it... I would really like to see someone new. Of all the x-men the unknown Hugh Jackman was the best, and I'm hoping they can get the same type of performance from another newbie... and my bigest wish is also "just dont let it suck"

Yeah, I agree with the dude at the top about how you don't want an A-list-er to play The Cap. Just putting it out there, preparing for the flak but I think he could pull it off, Nathan Fillion. The dude who plays the captain in Firefly and the movie Serenity. I think he's got that look and attitude that classic Cap had.
And hell yes, Jeremy Irons would be awesome as Red Skull!

My two-cents:
Agree with George Eads (just to break him out of TV and onto the big screen) & Scott Speedman as good choices.
75/25 with David Paetkau & Matthew Fox.
50/50 with John Cena, only because of physical appearance. Now if his acting skills suddenly develop into something that the screen can capture, then he would be my top choice. He's physically ready for the part, but can he act the part?
Finally, totally agree with Jeremy Irons as the Red Skull.

FrizzBee - 1/28/2009, 2:46 PM
UNHOLI, I wouldn't mind Cena if they did the U.S. Agent storyline where Super Patriot takes over the role of cap after he's fired for shooting the passenger in that hostage situation. Or,... if Cena was in a Super Patriot vs. Cap movie. That way he could be seen as the dumb brute Super Patriot really was (all brawn, no brain, and really really vain). Peace.

Oh, and who here wants to see the Scourge storyline in the sequel. It brings in Nomad, and alot of other lesser known villains.

Peace out.

How about the Green Arrow from "Smallville," Justin Hartley. Young, blonde, good-looking guy, with a solid frame, already has a superhero role under his belt. I also agree with Speedman too. There are some good choices out there.
greenlanternsector2814
greenlanternsector2814 - 2/16/2009, 12:06 PM
Here are my pics:
1. Ryan McPartlin (Captain Awesome)from Chuck...he already has the rank.

2. Jamie Bamber (Lee 'Apollo' Adama) from Battlestar Galactica...but he might be too short.

3. Josh Duhamel...did pretty well as a military member in Transformers.

I also dig Scott Speedman, Justin Hartley and possibly Paul Walker.

As for Jeremy Irons...I like him as Red Skull. He could definittly pull off a German accent. Anyone remember a little film call Die Hard with a Vengence?

David Paetkau is a definite NO.
Jamie Bamber, Yes
Josh Duhamel, Could work...BUT would make a better Hawkeye in my opinion :D
Aiiwolf
Aiiwolf - 3/3/2009, 8:16 PM
You know what Josh Duhamel would make a good Hawkeye, never thought of it like that...he has the physique and smile to go with the purple suit lol.

I would love to see someone "new." I am tired of expecting someone we know in hollywood to play a role like this...get someone new who can bond with the character he plays.

I realize I might be in danger of life and limb to recommend this, but having just seen "12 Rounds" this weekend with John Cena and his earlier film, "The Marine" I actually DO think this guy has the acting chops for the role...and he SURE AS HELL fits the bill physically! Look at this month's cover of Men's Fitness (March) if you have any doubt as to his "red, white and blue" fit ;-)

That jawline, biceps, etc I think at least earn him a shot in the audition room...

Howdy y'all. This is my first post on a fansite, and I agree as well. I don't really care who plays Cap, JUST DO HIM JUSTICE! :)
I also agree that Jeremy Irons would be an awesome Red Skull.
My BIGGEST concern with this film is that it is done well and the actor who ends up in Cap's role does a good job with it. Other than that, surprise me! lol
