This is my first post on CBM, so please be gentle, but I had to get some of this off my chest! Final warning!!! MAJOR SPOILERS from CA:TWS and possibly even Agents of SHIELD.

Right, so lets get to it!

First off, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is a fantastic comic book movie and a fantastic movie in general! I'm still in my post cinema buzz, so forgive me if I exaggerate, but as of right now I genuinely feel it's comparable to the Avengers.

What I want to talk about in this article however is my general theory about the fallout from this movie where Agents of SHIELD is concerned. So, as many people already know, the lovely Mr Arnim Zola is alive and kicking in this film (well maybe not kicking). When Cap is confronted by Zola, he is confronted by a computer screen, with a huge database behind it. Zola's face appears on this screen, and he explains that while his physical body had died, HYDRA had saved his mind on the digital space. Obviously I have no pics, but these two images give the general idea of what he looked like:

<img src="/images/users/uploads/65310/The_MATRIX_has_a_face_RELOADED.jpg" />

<img src="/images/users/uploads/65310/ggg.jpeg" />

There was a square box camera (like on the image of Zola) and a computer screen showing a ghostly face (a cross between the matrix stock image and the face on Zola's chest). It looked pretty awesome, and the film also discussed the idea of "Zola's algorithm". This was an algorithm that used phone records, social security numbers, facebook info etc, to detect people that could potentially become a threat to HYDRA in the future, so that HYDRA could eliminate them before they can cause trouble. (This is where they name-dropped Dr Strange btw... a potential future threat to HYDRA).
Both of these ideas combined paint a picture of a Zola that exists digitally (and so has instant access to almost all information on the planet) and a Zola that is so clever that he can seemingly predict the future. Anyone who watches Agents of SHIELD at this point should be guessing what I am getting at.

I'm pretty sure that Arnim Zola is the CLAIRVOYANT!!!

Agents of SHIELD has clearly been building to a point where the winter soldier would change everything about the show, with the downfall of shield and everything, but I think this really ties everything together very well. If SHIELD has fallen, the question must be asked: what next for the SHIELD team?
Well I would suggest that Coulson is recruited by the now underground Nick Fury (or perhaps Maria Hill) to help hunt down HYDRA agents, and I think this will be the story arc going forward. I also believe that centipede is simply part of HYDRA, and the show runners couldn't name drop HYDRA until the movie came out. Clearly if the clairvoyant is the leader of centipede, then it would have to be someone highly ranking in HYDRA, which makes me think it must be Zola even more.
The only thing that I could foresee breaking my theory is that the database which cap came into contact with was bombed in an air strike, but it was implied that Zola had access outside of that database, and so I don't think Zola died in the airstrike.

I had a quick scan of other articles, and I don't think I had come across anyone else that had seen the movie who wrote this, but if I am repeating what other people have already said I am sorry.

Tell me what you think? Do you think Zola could be the clairvoyant? Do you think it could be Baron Von Struker, or some other HYDRA leader? Or do you think I am talking complete rubbish and should never post again???

Thanks for reading :)

just realised the images haven't worked (total newb)... anyway search 'arnim zola captain america winter soldier' and 'matrix face' into google images and you'll get the idea

@SotoJuiceMan I went to the midnight showing, then got straight back and wrote the article, didn't even realise the time :P

Your theories are plausible.

Hmmmmmmm............I can see it. Zola being the Clairvoyant makes sense to me.

Just a little theory that came to mind, what if The Clairvoyant is more than one person? You said Zola didn't have a body, just a face on a computer screen and a box camera; well in the promo for the next episode of AOS, we get a brief shot of someone in a wheelchair looking at a bunch of computer screens, which many of us are speculating that it's the Clairvoyant, if so, who's in the chair if not Zola? Maybe the Leader or MODOK.

I'm probably wrong, but I thought I'd share it anyways.

@RextheKing I'm not up to date on the recent trailers fro AOS so i can't confirm or deny, but that seems reasonable, the important thing is the 'zola algorithm' which I think is directly related to the clairvoyent, and even if zola isn't the clairvoyent, I'm sure whoever is is using his algorithm to make their predictions

The real question about MODOK is......will people be able to accept a new version of him? Cause theres no way they will use the version from the comics. Will the purists accept it? Im doubting they will.

Thats why im starting to believe Zola now. This article has made up my mind.

@cronny Yeah, definitely agree with you on the Zola algorithm theory.

@WYLEEJAY I actually think Marvel would take the risk and at least test out a comic accurate MODOK... Say, if the man in the wheelchair is MODOK(working with Zola, or is the sole Clairvoyant)I believe it's an earlier version of him. A version Marvel is giving us before they decide if a comic accurate MODOK could work.

If there is only one Clairvoyant, as of right now, I'm banking on Zola, but I'd love to see Zola and MODOK team up. It would also tie in AIM more in the MCU and explain how the Clairvoyant got his hands on extremis.

That could work. As of now though....im banking on Zola. Only a couple episodes till we find out!

They should connect MODOK and zola... Idk what that'd look like though

@ RexTheKing

I just can't see them using MODOK. I've been reading comics my whole life, 32 years, and even I think he's too ridiculous. A giant floating head with baby arms and legs? Come on now. Do you honestly think people will go for that?

MODOK is a joke character in the comics and is almost NEVER taken seriously anyway. At least not for the last 20 years or so. I see no reason at all to use him.

Great write up man. I give you a thumb.

I think it would be a great way to tie together having Zola as the Clairvoyant. But seeing the promos for AoS, Zola would either be on the screens in front of the wheelchair, or already must have found a body to interface with. That man in the wheelchair is the focal point, and I'm hoping it's MODOK. I saw the promo again last night(watched the AoS rerun), and it's definitely not the Leader(sounds nothing like Tim Blake Nelson).

I like your theory, and it is very plausible. I think my hope is that the Clairvoyant is MODOK, but hes working for Zola and HYDRA.

Good post, good job. I like the idea, and believe you're probable right. But I think if it's true, it's the perfect lead in for MODOK. because AIM could see Zola and feel like the could improve on that idea with MODOK.

Would you guys be open to them merging Zola with MODOK?

IMHO Zola created the clairvoyance but he's not the clairvoyant. The clairvoyant is a SHIELD insider, someone that can't have the permission to the level 10 where the secret of Coulson's treatment is shown (episode 14, the folder that Coulson make read to FitzSimmons is a level 10 folder, so the clairvoyant have to be lower then level 10).

Imho is Victoria Hand working for someone else.

I thought the same thing about Zola = The Clairvoyant. I do think Coulson will be chasing HYDRA agents. There was a certain agent i would have loved to have seen caught by Coulson but Marvel had other plans.

Watched CA:TWS on the opening day of March 26 here in the Philippines. And I had a hell of a time.
When the movie ended, a lot of questions came to mind. Atop of all that was: what will happen to Agents of SHIELD. Will it get cancelled? Will it get a changed title like Agents of SWORD or Secret Warriors?
Once I saw Arnim Zola's face on all computer screens in the secret base, I knew then that he can be the virus that if he gets in contact with JARVIS, he could easily cause the creation of Ultron in Avengers 2.
And yes, I believe that Arnim Zola is the Clairvoyant. It would have been nice if it's either Loki, the Leader or MODOK. But Arnim, at this point, is the most logical.
