THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Director Kari Skogland Open To Helming CAPTAIN AMERICA 4

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland says she's open to directing Captain America 4 if Kevin Feige calls, while debunking a major rumor that's been doing the rounds about the series.

News broke on Friday that Marvel Studios is developing Captain America 4 with writers Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. The film doesn't have a director, but putting Kari Skogland - who directed all six episodes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier - at the helm seems like a logical next step.

Talking to Cinema Blend, the filmmaker made it clear that she's open to directing the film, but answered the question in the most noncommital way possible (it essentially boiled down to her saying that if Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige calls, she'll answer the phone).

"I think if Marvel called me to do anything, if they called me to film the phone book, I would do it," Skogland admitted. "The Marvel characters are all very, very rich. I’ve become friends with Anthony and Sebastian, and I really enjoyed working with them. And Emily and Daniel Bruhl. I mean, I’ve worked with them for a couple of years, so of course, I have a special place in my heart. But as I said, if Kevin [Feige] picked up the phone, I would answer it."

In a separate conversation with Collider, the director was even vaguer with her Captain America 4 comments. "I still don't know anything about it. I don't even know that the headline's true. So I have no idea about any of that."

She did, however, finally debunk one of the biggest rumors about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: was there ever a pandemic storyline? "Yeah, you can debunk that," Skogland told the site.

It's still early days for Captain America 4, and it's possible Spellman and Musson won't be the film's only credited writers. With that in mind, we shouldn't bank on Skogland returning to direct, but it does feel like it would be a mistake not to at least strongly consider her when the time comes.

Wait, relatively unknown director is open to directing a huge movie with the closest thing to guaranteed success that exists in the business? No way.

I enjoyed her work and wouldn't mind seeing her direct another show but if it's a Captain America film I'm sorry but that belongs to the Russo brothers. Those guys know how to push the bar with directing and action pieces. Their vision for the savage side of The Winter Soldier will forever be how I remember Bucky going brutal in combat.

You know what? I think she should. I really liked a lot of her directing choices. The claustrophobic angles, the use of colour, the brutal fights. I wouldn't mind seeing more of that.

I'd be cool if she came back for Cap 4, but I'm dreaming to see Brad Bird directing in the MCU one day. Would love for him to take this project.

If not, then maybe a Shawn Levy?

The directing of the show was something I was fine with, so this could definitely work for me.

She did a great job directing imo. That would be a good choice.

Ehrm... pass. I don't know if it's fair to blame it on the directing or on the editing, but there were plenty of extremely jarring sequences all across the board (mmore so in the finale).

I'd through Kari's name in the hat for Avengers 4. I was that impressed by how well she managed to capture the human side of things and also imbued the camera with a ton of character, which is something only a few MCU directors ever really go for. I don't know if she used a second unit director for the fight scenes, but those were some of the scenes where I felt direction wasn't the strongest, but as much as we love The Russos, they used some of the best 2nd unit directors which showed.

But as an overall showcase of talent, I'd be stoked if she got the job, especially if it starts with an Avengers party like the party FATWS ended with, same song and all

The direction of the show was bad. There was no clear focus with the action, way to many close-ups which called attention to themselves, and it was overall just really messy. The individual character moments were good for the most part, but everything outside of that was not so great. Besides the Flag Smashers story, the directing has to be the weakest part of the show.

Skogland is being massively overhyped in this thread imo

She didn't compromise anything, but didn't see anything remarkable to get excited for the prospect of her directing this movie. I wouldn't be sad if they chose her but I believe there are better choices out there.

The direction was really good in my opinion, but I doubt it'll work for the big screen. It was the perfect balance for between big budget and tv aesthetics.

As for the movie, and although I don't know if he can do it, I'd like to see Chris Evans.
