This is a short review of the new comic book series by Dark Horse Comics, called The Creep, its a Detective story, but if you look at the excellently drawn cover by Frank Miller, you would think its a pure horror story. Its written by John Arcudi, and excellently drawn by Jonathan Case, its about a private detective called Oxel who suffers with a disease called acromegaly, which gives him physical deformaties as he gets older, hence "the creep" of the title. An old college flame seeks his help when her son commits suicide, but she hasnt seen Oxel since he was young and handsome, so he keeps her at a distance for now, although you know there will come a time when they are thrown together face to face. This is an adult comic book, with strong language present, but the story and artwork, not forgetting the fantastic use of colours, as when you focus on Oxel there is predominantly greay and quite drab, but when you see the old flame, Stephanie, its all warm colours, making you think that thats how Oxel views her, and his own past. A very good start, for some reason this is issue 0, but I am looking forward to the rest of the series, and more cases involving The Creep. There is also a preview of the new series in comics, B.P.R.D. 1948, which seems quite good, also written by John Arcudi, that takes up the last 4 pages. All in all a very good comic, well worth reading, and collecting...
