BATMAN #77 Seemingly Just Killed Off A Major DC Comics Character In Brutal Fashion - MAJOR SPOILERS

Tom King's Batman run has delivered a lot of unexpected twists and turns, but this may be the biggest yet! In today's issue #77, Bane seemingly murdered a major DC Comics character. Read on for details...

Bane warned Batman and his Bat Family that if any of them dared to enter Gotham City, he would kill Alfred. Well, Damian Wayne chooses to ignore that in Batman #77 today and ends up squaring off with his "grandfather," the Flashpoint Batman.

The fight ends whith Thomas Wayne taking Robin down, and when the young hero wakes up, he's been tied to a chair and is forced to watch as Bane breaks Alfred Pennyworth's neck, seemingly killing him on the spot. It's a brutal moment and one which leaves little room for doubt: Batman's loyal butler is dead, and it's going to be hard to come back from this.

However, this wouldn't be the first time Tom King has trolled us; Batman, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, and Dick Grayson have all seemingly "died" at one point or another during this series, but later recovered and are now all alive and well.

It's also worth noting that Alfred remains alive in a number of other comics, including Doomsday Clock.

For now, though, it appears as if he really is gone, and this could be a game-changer for Batman's status quo and something fans will obviously have plenty to say about.

If you don't already own a copy, you may want to hurry, because the issue is already selling for upwards of $30 with some sellers on eBay!

Tom King's Batman is a complete mess by this point anyway so I don't see this sticking.

This isn't the first time Alfred has "died" and it won't be the last.

I mean I personally think Alfred should be dead in current continuity. But that’s only cos he’s raised Bruce, then Bruce has raised Dick.... then Jason...then Tim.... and now Damien. Alfred but be old a [frick] at this point haha

DC villains sometimes make so sense. If you got robin knocked out, why not just kill him? I mean, its horrific and all, but logically.... the butler? seriously Bane? Not only have you just let one of your enemies live, you just royally pissed off the entire Bat-Family. smh. Bane's like " But, but,... i wanted to punish him mentally.." HAS THAT EVER WORKED OUT FOR ANY VILLAIN EVER?... no.

Alfred is just a hologram at this point. Dudes been dead so many times. Either that or he is an illusion by Bruce, caused by his psychotic tendencies.

Truly a loss that will be felt for generations to come, what with the permanence of death and all.

Tom King's run was a mess so far. Don't see it changing

King's writing is indecipherable drivel, so this scene carried virtually no weight. Alfred will be back as soon as DC puts a good writer on the book again.

Selling for $30! Give it a few months, Alfred'll be alive again and you can get it for a few $ again.

Nice looking art, though there's no real tension in the bodies.

I’m surprised Alfred has lasted this long.

Is this the change he had to ask WB about? I hope not. I hope there's something more.

I do think that damien's reactions from the page before were actually more powerful than this neck snap.

Doomsday Clock tacking place in the near future really hurts comics like this. You could do kill Alfred off for a year or two, well maybe set up a new Oracle first (which I think Batgirl is already doing) and the comics can keep going, but we know he will be perfectly okay a couple of months into the future here.

Place your bets, when will Alfred come back to life?

Just get to the Bat-cat miniseries and have them get married. King's run will be over....and then hopefully Scott Snyder and Jock/Capullo/Fabok can get back to how awesome this book used to be.
